  1. What did I just watch? Lol That's really well done! The human behaviors are the least believable thing!
  2. I have 2 980s, a 2 tb and 1tb, fortunately I have the later firmware, but it does raise questions about their longevity. That'll teach me to buy Samsung...
  3. Granted, you now have crippling debt from eating out all the time. I wish to always be happy.
  4. "This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service." Not surprised.
  5. Make the switch! I am! Admittedly, I'm duel booting because I like gaming, and also because I'm new to Linux and I can only beat my head on the wall so long before I have to take a break. I just figured out how to auto-mount drives, name them whatever I want and put them anywhere I want. I also had to change my spare drives ownership from root to user. I'm in the process of fighting with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is supposed to have native Linux support. Something about the initial game login contacts Square Enix servers, which claim to be down. My research suggests that it's a problem with my steam account linking to Square Enix, and that I'll need their tech support to resolve it on the back end.... I could have just left it on Windows but.... I really do want to be using Linux over Windows.
  6. I picked up Windows 11 on my new system, mainly because I wanted to be familiar with it when people ask for help. My overall impression is that it's not much different than Windows 10. I like the start bar of 10 better than 11. With 10 it's easier to change audio output device. 11 has some useless features (like airplane mode on a desktop PC), that really shouldn't take priority over things like quick audio swapping. Bitlocker is probably the number 1 reason to switch to Windows 11. I DO NOT recommend bitlocker on personal devices for personal use, the only time it's worth using is on a laptop containing sensitive information. Bitlocker makes sense from a corporate standpoint. Employees can't steal a hard drive and copy it. For anything else, Bitlocker only serves to make it impossible to recover data if the hardware has a problem. Windows 11 will let you switch from a cloud account to a local account, the same way Windows 10 does. I don't see the value of circumventing login during install. A fresh install doesn't have anything to report, and Microsoft very likely knows your e-mail address. I do recommend O&O ShutUP10++. It's a stand alone exe that can backup your registry and can be used to neuter a lot of Microsoft's data collection. Overall opinion, it's ok. If you have 10, stay with it until end of life. If your buying a new computer/license, 11 has a longer shelf life.
  7. Source - Hackaday.com When compared to the Noctua A12x25 it moved about half the air volume, but considering it's a 1'st attempt prototype compared to THE pc fan, it would be interesting to see how this does with a bit more refinement. Sadly Major Hardware is unlike to sink more time into this.
  8. Looks like you are right! Videos aren't tagged, just listed in various sub-catagories. I found the missing video's page: Should be linked to the video title. https://extremehw.net/video/ I'm aware I can follow the links to see the date. I did that the first day when it was all various podcasts, then decided I was wasting my time and quit.
  9. The blanket https://extremehw.net/ site has a video section, could we please list the date recorded (or at least posted) with each video? This would help me figure out how recent/relative the information is and if I'm interested. A lot of sites like to recommend year(s) old content and I'm pretty well trained to ignore site recommendations... If I were able to quickly identify what is recent, I'd be more inclined to engage with that content. A couple days ago I had podcast 1, podcast 32, and podcast 60+ or something like that.... Without a date, and sometimes even a subject title, this category quickly becomes useless. Today is a bit more cohesive, so if you're already improving it; Thanks! All the videos seem to be somewhat recently recorded, and list a subject, which is a big improvement. It feels odd that there is a Video tag, but there's no link or category to follow up with it. It's just a title. Other titles such as AMD or Intel have clickable links, even if that link doesn't serve much purpose (Humanity Projects has a clickable title/link, the following page shows only Folding@Home), which was easily visible on the previous page, making the clickable link/title redundant. It seems the videos are pulled from various parts of the forum, so a video subsection doesn't make sense, but an index that leads to those threads/topics does.
  10. "The page you requested does not exist!" Steps to duplicate: Go to https://extremehw.net/ Click any of the reviews at the top that have pictures. Message received, "Sorry! The page you requested does not exist" Example URLs: https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/cooler-master-haf-a-build-review/ https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/sabrent-rocket-ddr5-16gb-u-dimm-review/ https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/bequiet-silent-wings-pro-4-review/ https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/corsair-ex100u-2tb-portable-usb-type-c-ssd-review/ https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/sabrent-rocket-ddr5-16gb-u-dimm-review/ https://extremehw.net/all-reviews/bequiet-silent-wings-pro-4-review/ Pretty much all the reviews, you get the idea.
  11. I think it's hilarious that AMD and Nvidia have been trying to milk consumers and in the process they have convinced 2 companies to join the competition.
  12. About 10 years ago I had serious "carpel tunnel" syndrome. I used to play Starcraft 2 competitively and was using a high DPI mouse that caused a repetitive strain injury. (P.S. Don't use HIGH DPI settings, micro movements are harder on the body than large sweeping motions). I stopped using computers for a month, when I started again, within 5 minutes of using a mouse I'd have tears running down my face. I couldn't specifically say what the problem was or where I felt the pain, it was just everywhere. Nerve pain is funny like that. I went to a doctor, they started me on a muscle relaxer. I could maybe stand to use a computer for 10 minutes after that. Then they sent me to physical therapy. Physical therapy and frequent stretching did help. After 10 visits, I could use the computer for 3 hours a day, taking breaks every 20-30 minutes. The physical therapist told me most people would have recovered by now, and my insurance would only cover 20 visits a year, so I decided to look for a better solution. I went back to the doctor, and they sent me to get an EMG. They shocked my elbows and tested the response time in my fingers. Man did that hurt! Who would have thought directly shocking a nerve could be so painful?! They asked if it was both hands, and I said "If I tell you no, does that mean we don't have to do the other hand?" The EMG showed that I did not have nerve damage, and at that point I refused to let them do carpel tunnel surgery on me. They couldn't tell me what the problem was, so I didn't trust their fix. I figured, I couldn't be the only gamer with this problem so I went back to researching. On Teamliquid.net, I found hope. Another gamer who had gone through this, and one who had actually found a solution: Trigger Point Therapy by Clair Davis This book talks about myofascial tissue, a thin layer of tissue that surrounds the muscles and helps them keep their shape. The myofascial tissue can bind up and form 'knots', that prevent the muscle from having full range of movement. This strain usually doesn't cause pain in the muscle that is bound up, but in the muscles connected that are overstretched and overworked to compensate. The book offered an explanation to the problems I was having, as well as an index showing me which muscles to work and where the bind ups (trigger points) would be. Working those trigger points wasn't fun, it was quite painful and it took me a while to read about it, find them on myself, and work them out. I was slow working, prone to stopping after the slightest improvement, and didn't work all the muscles when I first started. It took me a lot longer than it should have, but 3 months later I wasn't inhibited by pain anymore. I really can't recommend this book enough. There's enough information it could easily be sold as a textbook for $120 and still be worth it. Over the years, I've bought 4 copies because I give them to people I know who are struggling with pain. Removing someone's pain is the best gift you can ever give. It's not an easy solution because it requires reading, finding the spots on yourself, and taking the time to work them. Pills are easier, but for anyone who truly wants help with pain, putting in the effort is worth it. I did pick up a Thera-Cane, which the book recommended. It was instrumental in releasing trigger points held in my shoulders, without the Thera-Cane, I didn't have the leverage needed. It's a bit expensive for what it is, but for what it does, it's worth it's weight in gold. I've been impressed with the book as it's a true cure for pain. There are a handful of situations that really do require surgery, and I'm impressed that the book correctly identifies when surgery is the best choice. It also has a few pages about fibromyalgia, and suggests that it is often caused by trigger points and can be resolved. I also struggle with back pain. Around age 19 I was leaning over the engine of a car and my back popped in a bad way. It hurt so bad I had to lay on asphalt for 15 minutes before I could move. Ever since then I've had back pain (lower right, just above the hip), it comes and goes a bit, but it can get quite bad, enough so that I don't want to sit at a computer anymore. Spending time stretching and working trigger points brings my back into a usable state. I'd still like a doctor to tell me exactly what's wrong with my back, but they don't care that much. They offer pills and physical therapy, insurance in the U.S. has weird rules about what they will pay for, if they haven't paid for every possible alternative action, they won't pay for an x-ray. If you end up getting the book, let me know how it goes.
  13. EU has my respect! I didn't think anything would crack the Apple walled garden. It's their greatest asset, and their biggest flaw. Between this and forcing USB-C instead of lightning, Apple is quickly on their way to being just another phone. I wonder how much it's going to hit their pocket books. It's almost enough to make me respect Epic Games.... If only they didn't harvest Steam data and force exclusives, I might actually use them.
  14. The greatest threat to google is poisoning their database. ChatGPT threatens to do just that. They can't identify human from AI, and it threatens to destabilize everything they have worked for. They want everyone to forget about ChatGPT, which means they have to make a better product available. You can bet that product will identify itself to google's database.
  15. Great question, so I tried to duplicate it again. It turns out the text at the top of the banner "you must register to view or post in our community..." is not entirely accurate. I think I read that banner and clicked a topic that didn't have any replies and felt I was being gated and not able to see all the content. Further testing reveals, I can see all the posts without issue. It might be worth changing the text on that banner. Who would have thought people actually read that stuff?
  16. Following Enterprise's departure from OCN, I figured it's time I take a look around. OCN really isn't what it used to be. I really like the news section, and OCN's news section went from great to bad. There's so many mainstream things that aren't even mentioned anymore. I looked into ExtremeHW back with the VS take over. I like to lurk on forums a bit before posting. The need to register to see if content is worthwhile kept me from joining back then. It would have again if not for so many OCN members here. I'd like to see the requirement to register to see posts removed. I understand it's useful for keeping bots/AI from scraping all our data, but I think this change should happen once the site has a lot of members, not from the beginning. OCN was great because I could find the answer I was looking for, and that's what made me join in the first place.
