Sony is giving PS Plus members extra days following PSN’s big outage WWW.THEVERGE.COM Expect an extra five days of service if you have PS Plus. I've been following this since the outage, but so far I haven't seen an explanation of what caused it. Hackers/hacks usually make the news, but network admins are only spotlighted when things go offline. This is a nice bonus for anyone who suffered.

Nvidia is 'investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50-series' cards after RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 owners (and some RTX 40-series folk) report black screen problems | PC Gamer WWW.PCGAMER.COM Proof, not that it was needed, that you should always do a clean driver wipe before a new GPU install. Maybe the limited stock will save people from the headaches of trying to troubleshoot such an expensive graphics card.

Paper launch. Newegg said their website was sold out within 20 minutes. One of the streamers camped microcenter, the microcenter store only got 5 5090's.

NASA rover spots proof that Mars hosted more than just lakes | Mashable MASHABLE.COM "Possibilities for microbial habitability." I'm glad Elon Musk the U.S. is pushing to go to Mars. While it's not a place I think anyone would want to live at, it does present unique challenges and opportunities to learn. I eat way too many microwaved meals, if our desire to explore space hadn't given us the microwave I'd have starved to death a long time ago!

Newly discovered microbes in Amazon peatlands could affect global carbon balance PHYS.ORG Complex organisms, thousands of times smaller than a grain of sand, can shape massive ecosystems and influence the fate of Earth's climate... I'm convinced that we don't understand climate change and keep pointing to every little thing as the cause. Maybe that's just my ignorance talking!

President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology – The White House WWW.WHITEHOUSE.GOV By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to establish an advisory council At the risk of skirting our no-politics rules, I thought this was worth discussing. Please refrain from discussing red vs blue politics or this thread will be locked. Roll up your sleeves crypto bro's and degenerate gamblers, crypto is here to stay! Traditionally countries want their currency to be what everyone uses. Crypto is a move away from that, unless a country is specifically in control of a crypto currency. As of yet, no country claims to own a crypto blockchain, but it's worth noting that a lot of these crypto currencies are vulnerable to a 51% hostile takeover. It's almost like Nvidia cards were good at crypto mining -> Nivida has a lot of money to invest in AI -> Nvidia is the dominate player in AI development. Thoughts?

MasterCard DNS Error Went Unnoticed for Years KREBSONSECURITY.COM The payment card giant MasterCard just fixed a glaring error in its domain name server settings that could have allowed anyone to intercept or divert... Typos are getting out of hand! I noticed if I dial 1 digit off for my credit card number it goes straight to a scam call center.

Elon Musk Gets Banned From Path of Exile 2—And Here's Why It Makes Sense - Jason Deegan JASONDEEGAN.COM Elon Musk, the world’s richest tech mogul and one of social media’s most prolific users, has never been shy about sharing his passion for video... What's cheaper than paying a player? A bot! This is only a temporary ban and it doesn't prove anything.

PayPal Fined $2 Million for Security Failures WWW.HOWTOGEEK.COM The fine is one thing, but the reputation hit is another. I'm a little torn about this. I think companies don't prioritize spending for cyber security defence and that needs to change, but I don't think fining companies for failing is going to end well. Cybersecurity is one of those jobs that can go well 364 days, and that 1 day puts their job in jeopardy.

I miss the social aspect of gaming, but I can only do fetch quests so many times until an MMO isn't fun. -
I need to figure out how to calibrate my hotas. I haven't had it working correctly since windows 10. Windows 11 required disabling core isolation which I don't want to do, and Linux I'm still scratching my head.

Prototyped was pictured. The webpage doesn't play nice, but the alleged specs are: GPU: GB202-200 Cores: 24576 CUDA GPU Clock 2100/2514 MHz Memory 32 GB GDDR7 32 Gbps TGP 800W, 2x 12v-2x6 Just a moment... VIDEOCARDZ.COM Could it be, Nvidia pushing the limits of what people are willing to pay?! These are starting to get into the professional use only category, which makes me ask why they aren't covering this area with their a5500/higher tier cards. Maybe ECC is less valuable than GDDR7? Or maybe they are just having fun playing with prototypes. -- Bonami beat me to it! I'll lock this thread to keep 1 topic.

Asmongold seemed particularly upset. He called Elon out and they supposedly beefed a bit. That's when Elon doubled down and then someone came out and said it was their character. It's a story about who's ego is bigger and it's petty on both sides. Elon often pops up in the news for saying things he shouldn't, but ever since he bought twitter the media turned against him. Yes! When Elon was talking about making car bodies all one piece and how it would make production cheaper, I realized he surrounds himself with a lot of smart people but doesn't understand some basic concepts. The Delorian was a cool car, but there aren't any on the road because fender benders cost too much to repair. Replacing an entire body would sky rocket insurance prices and the automotive repair guys would be up in arms. The cybertruck's titanium body repeats the problem the Delorian had. I think it's funny that all the Teslas have a front indent where the radiator air scoop would typically go. It's a sign the body wasn't designed for an electric car. -

Someone should pitch owning a gaming team to him. Maybe Star Citizen would have the right appeal? It should be out in the next decade! -
Nintendo just admitted that emulators are, technically, legal - Android Authority WWW.ANDROIDAUTHORITY.COM After shutting down several popular emulators over the years, Nintendo's top IP lawyer just admitted that emulators are legal. Nintendo has been fighting it on these grounds and that they often point to rom sites. They are more than willing to drag people through court and all the financial burdens associated with it. Nintendo has money for lawyers, most devs do not. This does leave room for an emulator to become legal, but they would have to stand their ground against Nintendo's legal firm.

Chinese AI model Spark v3.5 'beats GPT-4 Turbo' in key metrics | Live Science WWW.LIVESCIENCE.COM The newly announced Spark v3.5 can beat OpenAI's GPT-4 in language workloads, among other areas, and can synthesize human speech that... Cybernews AI Joe mentioned the Chinese model is cheaper to run on a per search basis. He also said it's a model Chinese citizen that refuses to talk about a certain square or say anything bad about the Chinese government! AI could be the ultimate propaganda tool! It's no wonder the U.S. is harming Nvidia to stay in the lead!

China’s "Artificial Sun" Breaks New Record In Longest Sustained Ultra-Hot Plasma WWW.IFLSCIENCE.COM The plasma was maintained for almost 18 minutes. Am I the only person who doesn't understand fusion technology? Global warming and climate change are 'problems' that the world must deal with! Meanwhile, researchers are busy trying to turn earth into a sun. Does this make sense to anyone else? I know that everyone is traumatised about nuclear energy, but how long until the AI overlords demand it and we finally listen? Everyone thinks that our power infrastructure is going to grow to meet the demand, but what we see is that large scale businesses continue to get power while individual homes suffer brownouts. My city voted not to build a new natural gas power plant, but meanwhile nothing is on the drawing boards to meet the growing demand for power. Now is a better time than ever to buy a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) backup for your computer! Fun fact, or not so fun fact.... UPS power supplies are actually not uninterrupted. I had a bad wall socket and the UPS kept shutting off to avoid getting fried. Wish I'd realized that before buying another UPS! Imagine my surprise when the new one did the same thing. Whoops!

Their page doesn't want to copy a snippet, but the timespy and fire strike performance improvements are significant. 5090 Firestrike 4K = 33,114, while the 4090 = 24828. The overall increase ranges from 24 - 30 % increase. These are benchmark tools so it's likely the task is repetitive and their AI performance is on full display. Stand by for real tests! 30% improvement is more than Nvidia likes to do! They could be shaving performance for next gen with numbers like that! Just a moment... VIDEOCARDZ.COM

Elon Musk Admits to Paying People to Play Video Games for Him GIZMODO.COM The world’s richest man doesn’t have time to level his characters but wants people to see him as a ‘living god of video games.’ Props to the gamers getting paid! Gaming is probably the worst career out there. I keep dreaming that one day there will be a real gamers league where the education is free and you don't have to win every game to make money. Some gamers were upset about it. They felt it diminished their own accomplishments. They work hard to get on that leader board and they don't have billions to show for it!
