I've added signature badges for everyone that participated this year. Still trying to figure out what we're going to do about prizes (event ends in 10 minutes).
I was unable to find the following members on site to apply the badges though (perhaps user names are different on site):- Q_Cruncher
- MicheleEHW
- CptAsian
- hertz9753
Please DM me (I just need user names on site), and I'll get those badges sorted out for you 4.Let's see. Q_Cruncher is long time veteran @tictoc right?
MicheleEHW is @mmcdonald12
CtpAsian is @Supercrumpet
And hertz9753, well he's somehow fighting from the grave *respect*

PCIe lane distribution is very stupid on almost all the current crop of boards and it is annoying. I agree that we should have more 2 DIMM options. Most people buying consumer gear are never populating 4 slots anyway. It's a shame we'll never get an EVGA X870E Dark Kingpin. That Aorus Master looks like a nice board and if it fits your needs for $300 less, seems like a no brainer.
As for my recent purchases... I picked up a Ryzen 7500f, i5 13490f, and a DDR5 6000 CL28 kit on Aliexpress today.
I have a friend that's wanting to try PC gaming. So I'll build them a rig with one of those CPUs along with the Arc B580 I just bought after I do some HWBOT runs on everything.
Been looking at 7500f
Then I saw there is a 7400f?

Out of curiosity, how much electricity are those of you who fold using? What is the overall benefit of folding?
It's helpful to tune high end high power draw cards for efficiency for sure. Like my RX 6900XT I can tune it to fold at sub 100W by just dropping the maximum frequency to 70%. But for foldathon I'll let it run at 80% 140W.
Overall benefit is to college professors who have a backlog of tests to run and not the equipment to run them. More recently folding@home helped identify the spike protein during the early covid pandemic.

How to participate:
During the competition you must be folding for Team 239902
Stats: You can view the stats for the foldathon here: https://ehwfoldingstats.lazypenguin.com
Mind the EVENT START TIMER as it is UTC time zone.
Note: Stats are updated as soon as possible, but less frequent than desired. Just keep folding!
Folding is stressful on hardware, and will often break an overclock unless it's been tested with folding. I do not recommend overclocking high end GPUs as the power draw can be extreme while folding. If anything, try tuning for energy efficiency. Casualties happen and EXTREMEHW can not be held accountable if you destroy your hardware while folding.
Thank you for your participation!

Ok yeah had a few Navi pass through my hands.
I still have my RX 6900XT reference card under water in my main rig.
Michele still rocking her ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 6900XT.
Rachel RX 6600 POWERCOLOR Hellhound
Ethan RX 6600 POWERCOLOR Fighter
MSI RX 6500XT MECH
And Radeon 760M Ryzen 5 8600G iGPU

I have spare RX 6500XT I can let go for $75 shipped as well. Nifty little card that can be OC'd to about 3GHz in the driver while only drawing like 75w.

So I have a nzxt case laying around. He already has peripherals. I think realistically all I need is a gpu/MB/CPU/Ram. I have SSDs, like what else is there been a while since I built a full computer lol.
Assuming i'm correct (Pretty sure I am), the most demanding games the kid plays are poppy playtime and fortnite. He is turns 9 this year, so hes getting close to either turning the leaf to realing games or giving up gaming......So I want to get CPU/GPU combo that won't break the bank but can offer him more in teh futuer if he expands. He games at 1080p 100hz right now and that probably won't change for a while. Could I get a decent used combo for 500 USD or so and what would you guys look at?
Or am I better off driving to a costo or microcenter and just grabbing a sub 1k prebuilt and ripping it apart, or leaving it alone to be honest. Money isn't an issue for what he needs, I just want to save a buck if I can since I really only need 3 components. But if buying him a more modern complete makes sense I can do that too.
I have a GTX 1060 3GB you can have for cost of shipping (usa hopefully). Might also have some DDR4. P.M. me.

It looks like this is the final folding blowout for EXTREMEHW.
I need to go ahead and say a few words. First of all, this site has been a blast for me. I'm thankful for @ENTERPRISE inviting me here from overclock.net. Thanks to @BWG for getting me, just an enthusiast overclocker, interested in some crazy stress test benchmark called folding@home. Thanks to @Avacado @axipher @zodac @firedfly for getting me up to speed on that so I could help take over for BWG as I stumbled and fumbled through the learning. We had some very good foldathons and put up some huge numbers for such a small team. Thanks to EVERYONE who folded with us at EXTREMEHW. Some of you were very dedicated up until the very end, crunching the hell out of some work units. I also had a good time benching with you fellow overclockers on HWBOT. Also as a very small team we put up insane numbers and collected a ton of cups and medals.
Where do we go from here? Well I'm still active on the techpowerup.com forums. I plan on folding for them as a regular team member and I plan on joining their hwbot team. I invite all of you to follow me over there, as it's one of the last good PC tech forums still alive. For those heading elsewhere or retiring, I hope we meet again!

so if anyone is curious, not back in business.
not sure what to do at this point - RX 580 seems kinda useless. any notes on intel GPU folding?
From the info I gathered, the new Intel GPUs will AGAIN not support FP64 and thus will not be able to fold. A shameful missed opportunity.

I hadn't looked at Rocksmith+ before. That actually looks really cool.
More learning should be gamified.
Yeah I originally looked at it for Michele since she is learning. Then I was like whoa this software pretty much has studio options that are worth thousands.

I'm about to go all-in on Rocksmith+
It might look expensive but it's actually cheap asf if you look at equivalent studio equipment it offers.

Well if you are going to water it, try and find RX 6950XT. The faster RAM chips do help. Many of the 6900XTs, like my own, can't really OC the RAM. But on the positive, you can cram as much power as you can cool through MPT, which I assume you will do since you are going under water and I've seen your Vega benches.
The 7000 series are very locked down and basically need an external hard mod to hook up to get anything out of them. Every 6000 series I tested OC'd like crazy with MPT, so very fun for me.
Honestly though I only use the MPT for benching. For gaming at 1440p ultra wide it's more than enough at stock. I've got a bykski block on mine and I like it better than the EK block I had on my Vega.

Will SSD's become the new norm for gaming requiremenets?

The Oblivion Remaster is brutal on all hardware: CPU, GPU, RAM, and Storage. It's very fun though.
