  1. excellent! Definitely buying at least a mug, and maybe a hat. Excited for this!
  2. Nice! I've got two Switchplate Peripherals Southpaw. Here's the geekhack GB thread I got both a bent plate and integrated case kit. I'm hoping I haven't lost the pieces over time It's been many years, there were difficulties in the group buy and I haven't had time to learn to solder and such since. I also had always hoped to make an ergodox. So really I'd considered plastidipping all three, but I thought the southpaw bent plate would look coolest, imo.
  3. Maybe I'm blind, but I can't seem to find more info on OpenSIL. Pretty sweet though, didn't know there was open source firmware for something like that.
  4. Look, the 970 3.5GB vram was never a real issue anyway /s Could be interesting to see more of this. Curious to see what kind of additional hardware we'll see on GPUs to support tech like this.
  5. Nice review! I think I might be getting this case possibly, once I can greenfield my whole server setup. It looks like, if you're not running any long expansion cards (gpu, etc) then there would be room for a thicker rad and push/pull fans in the front? Although I suppose that's going to depend on motherboard size, since dual cpu systems have huge motherboards.
  6. Didn't get to this over the weekend, but still planning for getting to it soon. maybe the next couple of nights, hopefully.
  7. Just curious, what ended up being the issue?
  8. hahaha well, stay tuned for more info saturday/sunday!
  9. I was a pfsense user for many years, and loved it. I ended up giving opnsense a try, and enjoy the gui much more. I felt like some things were a little more intuitive as well. I'll be getting my network back in shape this weekend, opsense is gonna live in a VM on a NUC 11 pro running esxi, so I'll have to post about that once it's up and running.
  10. oh nice! I had considered it for a keyboard, and also for the outside of a case, just haven't decided if I'm going to go that route though.
  11. That plum crazy plastidip looks really awesome! Is that tough to apply?
  12. Is this club still alive, and how does it feel about opnsense?
  13. Wonderful CPU series that was. Heck even the single core ones (I had the 3200+) was pretty awesome. OP, I'll echo the 5700x. What CPU cooler do you have? That's something to consider, since you'll be dealing with a little more heat.
  14. For anyone that wants the server-level sound without the hassle, just grab this!
  15. I wouldn't bother waiting for WiFi 7. It'll be a while until you see end devices with it, and even then, unless you have a really wifi heavy environment, you probably won't see a benefit. 6E should be fine. Essentially, the cost-to-benefit ratio is not great.
  16. I've got a kinesis Freestyle Pro I need to unbox and start using, with MX silent reds. I've also got two of these that need building Had the parts for years, never got a soldering iron
  17. Looks like a nice cooler. I forsee issues with motherboard "armor" however.
  18. yeah, same thing happened on a another forum I'm on as well. lovely.
  19. Interesting. I wonder what they're targeting here, normally for stuff like 192GB you're talking workstation/server, and that should be ECC. Maybe video/photo editing? or Game design?
  20. I wasn't aware, thanks for sharing. Why avoid bitlocker? I don't think it requires tpm at this time. unsure though. I'm more familiar with it on the business side of things. Yeah, I have seen that from GRUB2. I haven't moved to that (I daily *nix on my laptop. When I have one). Linux FTW!
  21. I'm going to catch the next one, as long as we move back into a house. Don't have space to power up the rack where I'm at right now.
  22. Interesting. ok, maybe I'll check out ABP then. RE: Yahoo.. what now?
  23. Agree, except both of those items are generally outside the control of an operating system, in the sense of getting them configured so that the user can actually enter their own password. They're up to the user to configure. If there was an implementation of something akin to bitlocker, where admins can enable a password required to boot and the user can make their own, except apply it to the bios & bootloader, that'd be sweet. Can W10 passwords still be removed that way? I thought that wasn't a thing anymore. Is this where hardware security keys (the removeable ones) enter the chat? Or do those just apply to logging into the computer? If one could configure a hardware key to be required for POST or bootloader access...
