..thankfully, this might not happen in the immediate future, but as stated, complacency is definitely not an option. Our firm had a 9-mth battle on a SaaS apps with an Asian state-sponsored 'outfit' some years back. Fortunately, we are using not only technologies but also undocumented 'distributed' techniques and managed to prevail. I mentioned it because 'state sponsored' is s.th. to worry about in this context because...

 

a.) Quantum computers are extremely expensive and difficult to run, at least for the time being (D-Wave, one of the leaders in Quantum computing, is only 20 km from here - you should see their 'cooling' setup..). Governments and their 'agencies' are among the few initial adopters which have the budget and the infrastructure. 

 

b.) The debacle around 'NSA dark tools'...but NSA itself got hacked and those tools made it into the dark web, with bits and pieces acting as the foundation for ransom ware attacks etc.  More > here
