Cracked Version Of Resident Evil Village Offers Drastically Better Performance On PC, Report Finds

Recommended Posts

Quote

Digital Foundry conducted tests on both the retail and cracked versions of Capcom's latest sequel, coming away with the conclusion that the game's anti-piracy features are currently behind the poor performance of the game on PC. Since launch, Resident Evil Village has exhibited issues with frametimes, causing large stutters during normal gameplay sequences such as shooting. The issues are worse in certain scenarios, such as the early encounter with Lady Dimitrescu's daughters, which can plummet the frame rate from the high 100s all the way down to the low 30s.

Since launch, Resident Evil Village has had issues on PC. And it seems DRM might be to blame.

BOOO crappy DRM.

This is the issue with DRM, depending on the type used and how it is implemented can really tank performance. I get that it is a catch 22 with respect to developers wanting to protect their property. However it is clear DRM does not work and only serves to punish those who actually pay good money for the game.

That's interesting. I own the game. I can see how this would be a big deal. The game really has a ton of video adjustments in it that tap out my 3080 before settings are maxed on 4k res.

Oh really ? Did not realise it would give the 3080 such a hard time.

Supposedly this game wants more than 10GBs of Vram at 4K max. One of the few games that I guess arguably runs slightly better on AMD cards aside from the few with more than 10GBs, if not the only one.

I wonder how much piracy is still a big deal. It's hard to gauge but to me it seems like with things like game pass and the consistency of steam sales, there is less reason now than ever before to pirate games. The last time I pirated a game it was actually a game I own because I was trying to figure out if the DRM was the reason I was having performance issues at the time but it turned out not to be the case.

Yeah, the settings show you how much vram you need to change comfortably to the settings you increase. I did not try the ti's with it yet, but the ti I just bought will be my main gaming GPU.

I've not ever played the RE series.

Now considering it seems to be pushing hardware and I have a beefy enough machine, I'm wondering - should I get it?

I game primarily on 1440p but I have been thinking about adding in a 4K TV to my setup....

If you don't want to play RE but want to try another game that uses RT-GI and runs pretty well on AMD cards, Metro enhanced is pretty impressive in that regard. It goes on sale for ~$12 on steam.

Ahh right, VRAM. This is the reason 3K series from Nvida has been dumb... plain and simple. You either have gimped cards at 10GB+....or go mental with 24GB of VRAM on the 3090. Literally the only reason I went 3090 was I knew the limited VRAM on the 3080's would bite me in the ass.

If you just want a game that's a little less intense but is still getting community event updates 6 years after launch and while the community is waiting for the second game to be released, you might wanna try Dying Light. https://youtu.be/TLwBNfGoXDc

I actually really disliked that game because of the way the leveling up works. Everytime I'd get a better weapon, the AI would just have more HP to counter so it felt like there was no progress.
