This severely limits the lottery part, because customers are already offered a faster and more capable product. Furthermore, a component shortage that began last year when the COVID-19 pandemic struck has been causing shipment delays. Finally, the fact that Intel has shifted from thermal compound under the IHS to solder TIM has made the delidding process unnecessary. This service has been offered by Silicon Lottery as well.

Sad, understandable and sensible.

 

I purchased a 4790K from these guys, binned at 5.1Ghz and liquid metal tim. Good times.

I think GPU binning is even less worth it haha.

It makes sense. Overclocking doesn't make nearly as big of a difference as it used to with CPUs being designed to run closer to their actual limits. The difference between a great chip and an average one is pretty small now.

All the overclockers have grown up. Everyone else has settled for TVB and PBO. Next, they will settle for nothing, literally.

I think manual old school overclocking will carry on. However there has been a big shift to things like PBO and simply tweaking that technology to your needs. PBO is fairly flexible that way.
