OLED Experiences - 2 years in

Recommended Posts

...had a chance to thoroughly check at a 65 inch LG G3 w/MLA recently...wow. We don't need a new tv / monitor just yet, but when the time comes, a big LG MLA OLED is on top of the menu.

Meanwhile, some more new eye candy for all you diehard OLED / Dolby fans...

Some more Dolby Atmos "Ray Tracing Audio' 🤔 goodies; some visuals are also stunning. Second vid is an hour long Dolby Vision HDR, again with some gorgeous scenes in it. I also had another look at the 55 inch LG C3 and G3; C3 is hard to distinguish from earlier OLED 'C' line. All are quite stunning, but the G3 is brighter than the others, likely due to the addition of MLA (micro lens array).

@bonami2, @Sir Beregond and all other OLED fans ...this is definitely worth watching on your OLED (including sound at 1.20 min and onwards). While few will have an 8K HDR 240 FPS setup, this is one of the best-produced demos I have seen...😀

32" 4K OLED 240Hz can't arrive soon enough.  I plan to run custom Super Ultrawide resolutions like 3840x1440 but at 240Hz, double that of what I can do now with the LG C1.  The higher DPI and nits will be awesome.  However, ASBL/ABL and lack of BFI will suck. Man BFI at 240Hz will be nutz.

...I had one pixel on my C1 that was stuck on white-greenish, so not 'dead dead'. If you go into the LG menu, look for support > OLED Care > OLED Panel Care > Pixel Cleaning... takes a bit more of an hour (per onscreen instructions, can't use the monitor/tv then), but it will turn itself back on when done. I had to do two rounds and then it was back to normal.

...Pixel cleaning won't fix really 'dead' pixels but they can get stuck on a specific colour, including black - have to figure out which one is which. Using an all-black background (desktop setting will do) and then an all-white and an all navy blue one usually helps to identify which pixels need attention cleaning. The one pixel that needed attention on my C1 was dead center both horizontally and vertically...as mentioned, I did two rounds of pixel cleaning. The pixel had clearly improved by more than 50% after the first round (recalling that it was stuck white-green). Second round seems to have fixed it.

From what I heard, that's the only time you should run the manual pixel cleaning (the one that takes an hour) is if you identify issues like that. If I recall the C1 does a mini refresh every 4 hours of cumulative use when it goes on standby and a full one every 2000 hours. I'll have to look into that because aside from stepping away for say 15-20 minutes sometimes (where the LG screen saver comes on) I usually turn the screen off so I wonder if its not doing the mini cleanings/refreshes.

Still haven't had any issues with my CX. I'm at 2190 power on hours currently. I always turn it off when I'm not using it. For stuff like Folding@Home I keep the LG off and just access the computer from one of my other PCs via RDP.
