AI is it legit or the new Cypto?

Recommended Posts

I was watching an episode of Law and Order: SVU season 1 the other day which is like 20+ years old now. There is a character in that show named Munch who is a total conspiracy enthusiast. In an episode I saw recently, Munch is complaining about laptops and says something like: "What's with all these laptops?! Laptops, laptops everywhere! There's a laptop conspiracy to get us to all use laptops!"

That's how people who think AI is overhyped right now sound to me. AI is nothing short of a planet changing technology that we are at the very beginning of.

On a purely financial level, financial experts believe AI will increase the global GDP by 14% over the next 7 years. If that turns out to be even half true, Nvidia is undervalued right now, as the strongest leader in this space and one of only three potentially serious players.

One of the reasons for the growing role of AI is the tremendous opportunities for economic development that it presents. A project undertaken by PriceWaterhouseCoopers estimated that “artificial intelligence technologies could increase global GDP by $15.7 trillion, a full 14%, by 2030.”7 That includes advances of $7 trillion in China, $3.7 trillion in North America, $1.8 trillion in Northern Europe, $1.2 trillion for Africa and Oceania, $0.9 trillion in the rest of Asia outside of China, $0.7 trillion in Southern Europe, and $0.5 trillion in Latin America. China is making rapid strides because it has set a national goal of investing $150 billion in AI and becoming the global leader in this area by 2030.

AI is the real deal.  We had the machine age, then we had the information age, now we are entering the age of AI.  That is to say, we can finally make use of all the information we have accumulated.

AI is still in it's infancy.  People have to understand statistics and datasets to program it, then they have to train it, and then verify results and tweak the process.

Part of the problem with AI is that it's very hard for anyone to understand what it learned after training.  ChatGPT may be able to answer a question, but until it can explain exactly how it came to that answer it's use as a tool is limited.

A lot of people think they can just slap AI onto a problem and it will solve it.  That's not what AI is about.  In fact from a cybersecurity standpoint, adding AI onto something just increases the attack vectors people can use.

The real importance is the datasets.  AI is only as good as it's data.  To companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, AI is invaluable.  To someone like me with limited data, it is not very useful.

AI plays a major role in the growth and development of nations.  The NSA has a ridiculous amount of data.  Similarly, China has an immense amount of data.  These AI algorithms will play a major part in how our countries function in the next 50 years.

Tiktok is available worldwide.  In China it promotes learning and growth.  In America it promotes the dumbest things they can find.

Perhaps the most influencal use of AI will be in the growth and development of the next generation of children.

Already we are seeing AI develop new chemical drugs, and assist with silicon development.  We will hit a point where it's growth is exponential in comparison to what people come up with alone.  AI by itself may never be able to match the creativeness of a person, but when AI has the output of thousands+++ of people's work as a training dataset, it can potentially do what it would take a million people to come up with.

Right now, AI is still a child.
