New AMD Side Channel Attacks Discovered, Impacts Zen Architecture

A new paper released by the Graz University of Technology details two new "Take A Way" attacks, Collide+Probe and Load+Reload, that can leak secret data from AMD processors by manipulating the L1D cache predictor. The researchers claim that the vulnerability impacts all AMD processors from 2011 to 2019, meaning that the Zen microarchitecture is also impacted.

I hope this isn't going to end up like Intel where vulnerability after vulnerability is found and we end up with CPUs that have crippled performance because of it.

Fingers crossed they do not release patches that hamper performance. Patches are good, but not if it murders performance.

 

To be honest most of these security issues make no difference to the ordinary Joe Bloggs.

Yeah, the security issues aren't a problem for me at all. It's the patches that may cripple performance that are a problem for me.

Well considering how many issues Intel have had, I will count my blessings that AMD has not had as many.
