A tweet by XL (@9550pro) on the X platform revealed the latest GeekBench scores for AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X "Zen 5" flagship processor overclocked to 6.0 GHz. The data highlights a significant performance boost in both single-core and multi-core metrics when compared to its non-overclocked state. The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, designated as "100-000001277," is the leading processor in AMD's latest series, featuring two Zen 5 CCDs (Core Complex Dies) and one IOD (IO Die). This flagship processor is equipped with 16 cores and 32 threads, offering a base clock frequency of 4.3 GHz and an acceleration clock frequency up to 5.7 GHz. The processor boasts an 80 MB cache, which includes 64 MB of L3 cache and 16 MB of L2 cache, and operates at a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 170W. Notably, while the acceleration clock frequency matches that of the Ryzen 9 7950X, the base clock frequency is 200 MHz lower.

The testing was conducted on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E motherboard, paired with DDR5-6000 memory. It remains unclear whether the cooling solution used was air or water-based. When overclocked to 6.0 GHz, the Ryzen 9 9950X achieved a single-core score of 2795 points and a multi-core score of 30050 points in GeekBench 5. This represents a 10% increase in single-core performance and a 13% increase in multi-core performance compared to its non-overclocked state. When compared to the Intel Core i9-14900K (non-overclocked), the Ryzen 9 9950X showed a 12% improvement in single-core performance and a 16% improvement in multi-core performance.

In GeekBench 6, the Ryzen 9 9950X scored 3706 points in the single-core test and 26047 points in the multi-core test. These results indicate a 10% increase in single-core performance and a 20% increase in multi-core performance over the non-overclocked state. Compared to the Intel Core i9-14900KS (non-overclocked), the Ryzen 9 9950X demonstrated a 16% lead in single-core performance and a 19% lead in multi-core performance.

Not a huge OC, but looks to have a bit more headroom than previous generations perhaps.
