Gamers Nexus: NZXT Scam

Recommended Posts

You gotta give Gamer's Nexus props. They go hard when they do these kinds of investigations. Like when they talk about an NZXT case having a fire hazard issue, warning NZXT who did nothing about it, and then getting the government to pressure NZXT until they comply. Not a lot of tech journalists would go that far.

I had this playing on the TV in the background, and I was shocked. I’ve never heard Gamers Nexus go this hard at a company.

The amount of lying and false advertising is disgusting from NZXT. We all understand lending, leasing, or financing is never as fiscally wise vs. purchasing outright but it’s a solution if you’re low on cash, you know your cash flow, and you’re willing to take on a certain amount of risk.

This is just customer abuse.

I am really curious to see how this all pans out.

Bad look for everyone involved. Lessons learned hopefully for the paid partners and NZXT. PE overloards must be appeased but I would have to think there was probably a better strategy out there. The bit about the layoffs and handling of it combined with this leasing sham screams poor management in terms of 'business sense' let alone someone who is really tuned into what the gaming community wants to buy.

Another interesting note is that it sounds like NZXT and Corsair are both controlled by the same investment group which means a lot of their products will probably be coming from the same sources.

So more mediocre-at-best parts will be flooding the market then.

NZXT's reputation has taken a hit for some time now in the case market (in part because of how they handled the fire issue), and Corsair quality seemingly has taken a dip with their increasingly disappointing portfolio of cases, cooling solutions, and sloppy/overpriced/underperforming custom-built Origin PC systems. All I have from Corsair in my current build is their older 2018 version RM850x PSU which has a quieter fan than the newer version.

Hardware-as-a-service is the worst consumer idea to come along since—and the obvious evolution of—Aaron's and Rent-A-Center in the retail world. I'm glad NZXT is getting called out for this garbage, as if car manufacturers locking mechanical features behind a subscription paywall wasn't bad enough on one end of the absurdity spectrum, and insane payday loan interest rates on the other.

It perpetuates the financial ruin of the most vulnerable who would be drawn to an idea like this...just like places such as Aaron's or Rent-a-center. It's a horrendous practice. Of course they like it because its a way to generate a monthly income off stuff otherwise just sitting in a warehouse.

But yeah, Gamer's Nexus is right. This is a thing that needs to be killed before it can take off.

Corsair: I just replaced an RM1000x recently, otherwise just have a Corsair Scimitar mouse because I like MMO mice and its basically a choice between that, a Razer Name, a Steelseries, a Logitech (which I couldn't fine at Micro Center), and that's about it.

The response is definitely lack luster. They need to spend time looking into what they put on their website.. Would have liked to see something along the lines of these subscriptions are on hold (minimum) or some kind of lose commitment that there will be change.

Edit:

Here's JayzTwoCents video:

Lessons learned on advertising terms but that's life. I don't follow many people on Twitch but I have to wonder if NZXT would attempt to go into overdrive finding streamers to help push the news out of people's minds.

Thought this was interesting to see the NZXT CEO talk to JayzTwoCents. The explanations make sense but I just don't get the feeling the CEO was actually unhappy with the partners way of handling the subscription. Really felt like all the CEO wanted to communicate this was mostly not NZXT's fault but the damage is done to NZXT, not the partner nobody will ever normally shop from directly.

I hadn't watched the NZXT CEO's video before I saw Jayz video. Bunk. They're definitely going to be missing some component sales, system sales, and any good will.
