Intel Announces Retirement of CEO Pat Gelsinger

Recommended Posts

"Retired"

Can't say I'm surprised. He talked a bigger game than what he could deliver (which feels like part of the job description for working at Intel nowadays), and he presided over some major blunders recently in both product and corporate, but Intel still remains lost without a clear direction.

As for the immediate short term, interim co-CEOs with backgrounds in finance and marketing. Yeah, that will go over well. 🙄

Feel like a short ride but that's how it works out I suppose. Co-ceos, hopefully something positive comes from this.

Intel seems like it's in such a strange position, CPU issues on older gen, new CPUs sort of under delivering, dGPUs not enticing many customers, and some business challenges. I do see the share price rose a touch though..

It seemed like a good idea at the time I am sure to put Pat, an engineer, at the reins. And it sounds like he was well liked within Intel, but man, blunder after blunder after blunder during his tenure. Intel went from seemingly limitless amounts of money to a shell of itself in not too much time. Often times the blunders were just timing too. Intel missed AI, spent probably too much on Arc which doubt made them any money really, floundered with 14nm forever and getting back on track, lost consumer and data center mindshare and over time market share and dominance.

Guess we'll see where Intel goes from here. I hope this leads them back to a better road. Competition is good, we need it still.
