Forum not filling regular wide-screen

Lots of empty space on the sides of the forum, especially with that extra column bar on the right beside the content.  This applies to both the home page and on a thread and makes reading a longer reply kind of bothersome to keep changing lines.

This is due to fixed forum width, so not a bug, more so a setting which actually helps keep w certain degree of continuity on some page elements. Will see if we can make it a user selectable option in the future :).

Wait did something change related to this in the past couple hours? Refreshed/visited this thread and everything is way more narrow. The window I browse with is about 2/3 the width of my monitor and instead of reducing empty space on either side of the posts like on most forums, the blank space has stayed the same and now threads look like Twitter or something.

I am currently playing with the width settings of the site. We are now (Testing) a fluid setting at 75% which will use 75% of the screen real estate of any given monitor. Will see how this works out, otherwise will go back to fixed width.

Thus far 75% seems to be a happy medium, but will see how it goes

Are we still looking into this one? Personally I'd prefer full width with no blank space on either side, especially with reduced width windows. (However, I recently realized I've been using a window that's narrow, but not narrow enough to go full width so I've been looking at worst case scenario.) Regardless, full width even with a maximized window would be preferable. It's just a lot of wasted space.

 

User-selectable would of course always be preferred though I'm sure that's not as straightforward of an option from a development standpoint.

I have not really looked into this anymore as the 75% fluidity setting seems to function nicely in the majority of scenarios, and this is coming from me who has an ultrawide. I will likely leave 75% as the default but with a view to making fluidity widths a per user preference in the future  Though of course this does depend on the feasibility, so this will be added to the to do list to investigate whether it is realistic to implement.

Somewhat of a workaround follows for this if you don't mind using a browser extension like Stylish, which allows you to create custom css that can be added to any site.

 

Using (e.g.) Stylish, this:

 

.

hides the sidebar on the right. While it's impact is global, you can enable/disable the extension on the fly.

I might have to give that a try, the sidebar is useful for some people and on the home page.

 

Is it possible to have Stylish apply the "no sidebar fix" only to pages like "https://forums.extremehw.net/topic/*" so that way on the home page of the forums, the side bar would still be there.
