Considering that the only thing that is significant about this person being on Twitch is that she's a politician, what else are we suppose to discuss.

You know you don't actually have to comment at all but to answer your question again, the twitch event/steaming numbers are the topic.

Topic? Given who was involved in the event (AOC AND OMAR) and the real reasons behind it, it's a sad topic. The "news media" have turned the event into a multi-ring circus that has little to do with objective science/tech.

Since the news I've seen about it has mostly been from tech sites, and all I've seen them talk about is the streaming numbers and how quickly her channel got subscribers, clearly it's not that hard. Not really much science in this topic either way...

You know, if you don't see how this topic could possibly be commented on without talking about your political preferences, just don't comment and let this thread die. Why is this so complicated? There are more comments here just saying they can't handle the topic without making it political than anything else.

If Lisa Su or Jensen Huang started a Twitch channel, would the discussion not involve the products they sell?  Or if Tom Cruise started a channel, would we not talk about his movies?  It's just natural to talk about her politics since that is the only thing that makes her famous.

Just the numbers though, not how the numbers are tied to said persons popularity/origin.

Because science...(not sure why science is even mentioned in this thread)

Let alone ignoring the title of the OP includes " get out the vote". Lets all be non-partisan and pretend its neutral.

What were you reading on these articles? The one you linked in OP has nothing but politics mostly mentioned in it. The numbers were solely based on her popularity alone. Why is she popular? I think it's more like you can't handle the topic at hand.

No fool, political discussion has always been against the rules on OCN and I am assuming it's the same here. I'm just trying to follow the rules. It's not complicated.

This is a tech site and the products they sell would be relevant. In this case, only the fact that AOC used twitch at all is relevant.

I'm not arguing that politics have nothing to do with the topic at all, I'm saying since this site is not for political discussion (and I assume that is against the rules) just don't do it here.

I wouldn't have even posted this here if the news hadn't been slow at the time because there are almost always a few of you who just can't wrap your head around the concept of keeping politics to a minimum on a site like this.

I want to agree even with the insult you just threw my way. Honestly, given the heavily political content of your links. I stayed pretty neutral but pointing out the elephant in the room as a few others did. You did get political in your posts when talking about "winning office" etc. I don't think outside of 1 comment anyone really got very political.

To respond to your "tech site and products they sell are relevant" comment i see your still avoiding the original point many of us were making.

If leather jacket or Lisa had twitch streaming account/event like AOC. Then you wanted discuss the subs/viewer numbers would it not pertain to their popularity? Yes products and brands would be come part of the discussion if it were not against the TOS.

Also, i harped about how twitch is controversial in many ways. I'd wager some money exchanged hands in the background to make this happen in bigger form.

I'm not avoiding anything, I just don't care about anything you have to say about this since all you are just going in circles about how hard it is for you to avoid talking about politics.

You're also misquoting me now, I said nothing about her "winning office" and I have made no political comments here at all. You want to argue about this so much you're just making stuff up now.

That's simply not true.

And a little beside the point. I think what I'm saying here is easily understood, there is no reason to debate me on it. Just don't turn this thread into a thread about any political preferences at all, keep it neutral politically and just talk about the twitch event. Simple enough.

I wasn't going to reply any further, but it seems this thread just can't die out. As to my comment "ANYTHING a public figure who IS a politician does automatically makes that action "political" because it will have a positive, negative,or neutral effect on their career. " Try telling Bill & Monica it's not true. Or maybe Jefferey Epstein & Prince Andrew? Look how many people have lost jobs because they were accused of something without ever being tried.(Chris Hardwick for example. He was later cleared by the network but still lost hosting jobs during the investigation) These are examples of PUBLIC people being effected by their actions taken in public and in private.OR in some cases even by the accusation of an action. So,you simply can NOT say her actions do not effect her political career.
