Threadripper Pro workstations expanding beyond single-source supplier

"Stepping out of its supposed 'exclusivity deal' with Lenovo, who had the first rights to Threadripper Pro in the ThinkStation P620, motherboard vendors have started showing off some of its WRX80 motherboard models designed for AMD's Ryzen Threadripper Pro processors. Some of the benefits of the new platform over standard Threadripper include eight-channel memory and up to 128 x PCIe 4.0 lanes, which is double that of the non-Pro variants. While this sounds like EPYC, it sits between the two with only 2 TB DRAM support. It's time to showcase what we know, including three new models based on the WRX80 chipset."

Oh those new motherboards look delicious indeed :)I noticed the Dual 10GB nics.. We are long overdue for 10GB onboard. 

 

Did you notice on the ASUS board that there are right-angle power pins facing down as well as the connector pins facing down? This motherboard is most definitely a SSI-SEB or at least in length because it has 7 PCI slots.. This would be a problem for many cases especially anything that might be rack mounted... I am surprised by this configuration and something I don't see on the others. #designflaw ?

...this might '''fit''' on a modded TT Core P5, P7 or so...I already Dremel-modded my Core P5 to accept an extra-longish eATX (MSI X399 Creation) and there's still some room at the right side, and below...just send me the Asus WERX80 (please don't forget the 3995WX TR-Pro) and I'll prove it to you ? ? I'll provide a new Dremel and cutting wheels...

The Asus Pro Series TRX80 for Threadripper Pro is out now and in stock in a place in Canada...surprisingly 'affordable' (for what it is) prices below are in CAN $....within the general range of the TR Zenith Alpha II, plus minus...TR Pro CPUs are now ins stock in some places as well...

We have been looking at TR Pro at work, but the premium over the regular TRs only makes sense in certain narrowly defined workstation apps. Dr. Ian Cutress / Anandtech did a thorough test review of the TR Pro <> TR last month (below).

 

One of the major problems I see right now is that Zen-3 based TRs are not to far off, with Epyc 8-channel based on Zen-3 already launched now...can an updated TR Pro be far behind ?
