X570 Board Choice?

Recommended Posts

So I think I narrowed down to two options.

Thoughts on Gigabyte Aorus Master X570 vs the MSI X570 Unify? Similarly priced, any pros and cons for each? Leaning MSI, but thought I'd ask. Also saw an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero similarly priced to the Gigabyte. The one thing I wasn't sure on the MSI board though is the Realtek ethernet. Any good. All my board have been Intel.

Will take a look at them tomorrow, though personally not had issues with Reaktek ethernet for a while though of course mileage can vary on chipset used.

I will take a look tomorrow at the boards but be sure to try to get bios flashback functionality and depending on your use case might be nice to get 10Gbe LAN (Possible future proofing? , Good for home networking and NAS).

 Gigabyte Aorus Master X570

Flashback Enabled as well as update without CPU/RAM/GPU installed - Solid solution . Also has a handy Clear CMOS

2.5G Lan (Intel)

Wifi 6

Nice onboard DAC for Audio.

14 Phase Power Delivery (Achieved by doubling)

MSI X570 Unify

Flashback Enabled (Though from glance not clear if this is just a BIOS recovery feature or if it also supports BIOS update without CPU/RAM/GPU installed). Possibly refer to the manual to double check.

2.5G Lan (Realtek)

Wifi 6

Weak Realtek Audio

14 Phase Power Delivery (Achieved by doubling)

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII

Flashback Enabled (Though from glance not clear if this is just a BIOS recovery feature or if it also supports BIOS update without CPU/RAM/GPU installed). Possibly refer to the manual to double check.

2.5G Lan (Realtek)

Wifi 6

Nice onboard DAC for Audio.

8 Phase Power Delivery (No doubling) (Possibly better transient response)

These are only some key features, all three of them are relatively the same so far as other I/0, NVMe and RAM Support (Speed). Obviously it depends on your overall requirements. If it were me I would likely go with the  Gigabyte Aorus Master X570  as an overall all rounder motherboard, at a glance. Furthermore I have liked the Gigabyte BIOS stability.

Worth mentioning that the Asus BIOS is usually MUCH more granular when it comes to opening up virtually all the tweakable options that other vendors sometimes lock out. MSI I have found to be on par with Gigabyte.

In reality the proof will be in the in-depth reviews. I would do some review shopping to help you choose the best option.

Yeah I'm going to be doing some reading up. I've been so far removed from this game since my last build in 2014/2015 it's taking a while to get back in.

Yeah leaving it a while between builds, which is good to be honest, it does leave you playing catch-up.

Well I guess this thread is moot.

I just happened to check my local Micro Center's website today and they got a shipment in of ASUS X570 Dark Hero boards. I jumped on that and placed an order for one. Love the fact it doesn't use a chipset fan.

Good to know. That was one of my main concerns. I also just wonder how those chipset fans hold up longterm.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi have the Aorus master x570 rev1.0 board here running the below hardware.

It has been a solid performer, silent chipset fan & all features have been as expected in performance.

I would try to ensure though if you purchase this board please get the rev1.1 or later & better 1.2 rev if you want  to achieve maximum memory over clock of your  ddr4 ram.

Cant say how well this board would be for the newer 5000 series cpus, but most users appear happy.

Amd 3900X cpu 32Gb 3600mhz Gskill rgb Aorus Master MB, TTFloe Riing 360, Igame Advance OC RTX 3090,

I opted for a MSI Meg x570 Ace. Pretty great and I wanted those 3 m.2's lol Also fits sli with 2 more pci cards which seemed hard to come by on the Asus side.

The passive cooled chipset won me over more than anything else really, though I do admit having 3 m.2 slots would have been nice.

..just (= yesterday) got an Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Hero wifi on sale, as part of an 'emergency purchase' given that my oldie X99 Rampage Extr developed some serious boot issues, with Q-codes that make absolutely no sense (to be revisited at EHW...)

In 'normal times' I would have preferred the 'Dark' version of this Asus X570 board, but the price - and availability right then - was hard to pass up. Unbelievable performance with a 3950X (which was also on sale, one of two available there), even if Asus' bios seems to not take true power consumption that seriously at certain settings (according to latest HWInfo). If you see this mobo on sale, go for it...
