My Awards

  1. The 50 series for me brings the following to mind. 1. Refresh generation offering little in actual performance gains. Forget MFG, DLSS etc. 2. Hideous design flaws, one would go as far as negligence. The 12VHPWR is an absolute joke in general but Nvidia decided to double down and make it even worse with their power delivery design. Most AIB's are taking the lazy way out and STILL not addressing the design issues, even though they have the power to do so. I understand there are small margins for GPU's but I would like to see more AIB's take responsibility for their consumers sake. This point alone would make me hesitant to put a 50 series card in my PC. 3. Buggy drivers. Unsure what is going on with Nvidia at the moment, but producing drivers that affect not only the 50 series but 40 and 30 series is embarrassing, especially with continuous releases still showing problems. 4. Hotspot reading removal. In my opinion Nvidia did this to hide something they are not keen on sharing. Tells you all you need to know. 5. Pricing. While I understand they have little competitions, Nvidia still didn't have to punish gamers with astronomical pricing. Nvidia doesn't care anymore about the crowd that made them. 6. Disingenuous marketing. Sure, we expect companies to make products look attractive. The 50 series however has a marketing campaign designed to cover for 50 series being fairly underwhelming as a product with bullshit claims such as the 5070 = 4090 and similar. You can't polish a turd. I really enjoy Nvidia products but they really have fallen from grace this round, its been a growing issue for ages but the 50 series just takes the piss. Nvidia have cut corners at virtually every avenue and then tried to sell it as the single wonder of the universe. Fortunately most have seen through it. While im still very happy with my 3090, If I were upgrading today It would likely be a 9070XT or AMD successor to that if they continue their improved trajectory. I just can't justify the insanity anymore. Im willing to bet Nvidia will double down again on the 60 series in some form. Nvidia knows right from wrong regarding design etc, but ultimately they don't care IMHO.
  2. Funny reading some of the posts but as others have said, definitely still an enthusiast in lots of I.T aspects and not necessarily just tweaking and overclocking. Still love to tweak and play and actually really enjoy server and storage solutions the last few years. Really enjoyed building my TrueNas server more recently. So yes still just as enthusiastic about tech, but life goals are different now and community management no longer fits within my aspirations Definitely good to have the site continued by fellow enthusiasts. It is important that owners of communities live and breath the same core goals. It lends to success no doubt. I will of course be popping my head in from time to time for some reading and help.
  3. Hey guys, I am not new to tweaking timings for RAM for the best latency, but I am not pro and need some help. Since updating my BIOS and upgrading to a 9800X3D, I have a few new RAM options in the BIOS regarding the DDR BUS Configuration which has thrown me a little. Below is what I was used to seeing via my previous BIOS/CPU, see all settings in the red box Below is what I have now, I had to make some "best guesses" for the new options I am not used to seeing. I am not used to have two entries each (pull up/pull down) for the "Processor ODT Impedance", "Processor DQ Drive Strength" & "DRAM DQ Drive Strengths". I made a guess based on prior values and set pull up/pull down to the same ohm rating. No idea if "pull up/pull down" should be the same. I also have also not seen "Processor CS Drive Strength" or "Processor CK Drive Strength" before, hence why I left these on Auto for now. Any suggestions? These are my current settings in Zen Timings, everything is stable aside from the DDR Bus Configuration related settings as I am about to test these. Looking at Zen Timings and seeing some unfamiliar ohm values, I have to assume that "ProcOdtPu" and "ProcOdtPd" relate to the settings above in the BIOS that I left on auto, but the name suggests it is not these and would relate to "Processor ODT Impedance Pull Up" & "Processor ODT Impedance Pull Down" I have set values for these that are different. Any ideas? Also happy to have any other feedback I will eventually attempt to get Gear Down Mode disabled and tweak down voltages but one thing at a time. My RAM is Dual Rank Corsair Dominator Titanium which uses Hynix IC's. 2x DIMM config. Cheers, E
  4. Hello all, It is my pleasure to announce that @pio & @LabRat are the new owners and operators of ExtremeHW. Please join me in welcoming them to their new role and wishing them the best of luck for the future. I will be sure to check in and see what you have done with the place All the best, E
  5. An option for sure, something that a possible new owner can consider.
  6. With a view to making it "easier" for someone to take on the site, I am also open to someone taking possession of the site for FREE, as in there would be no purchase price. However, it would be expected of you that you take on the current server hosting costs of the site as below: Dedicated Server Rental - $133.86 (Contractual agreement ends May 2025) Invision Community Suite - $17 ** Cloudflare - $25 Google Workspace - $47.77 Domain - $2.19 ** Font Awesome Pro - $8.25 ** You can reduce/remove any of the above other than the Dedicated Server Rental which you would still have to maintain up until May, at which point you can move the site to any hosting you wish. If you are interested, Please send me a PM All the best, E

  8. Unfortunately the bid for the site has been retracted. There are currently no bids on the site. Please feel free to bid as appropriate. If no bids received by Jan 1st, site and all associated services will be closed. Thanks, E
  9. Absolutely not. I wouldn't give VerticalScope the time of day.
  10. Hey guys, As an update, we have received a bid of $2000 for the site. To answer some of the questions asked above. we host the site on a dedicated server, to which the specs can be seen below. Current memory usage for anyone interested. Memory load can be attributed to the forum and folding stats databases for the most part. The hosting server of the site and associated subdomains could be located on a cheaper hosting service, possibly even a VPS. I personally would not self host from the home as there are just too many scalability and infrastructure concerns. Our Disk usage in all honesty is not that bad considering as a site we are highly flexible with allowing large uploads, you can see the disk usage below at 60%. Cost engineering the running of the site is a relatively easy task and there are certainly some areas where savings can be made through moving to a lower cost server/hosting, retiring dedicated IP's and removing other non essential items with respect to the actual forum such as the product review site and or the folding stats site. There is not an awful lot of saving from removing site features as A, They are relatively inexpensive & B, the renewal for updates of various plugins whether off the shelf or custom, is low. However every little helps. You can of course gather further savings if a perspective buyer has all the knowledge and knowhow of setting up and maintaining the server as well as the sites related DNS/WAF requirements. If anyone else is interested in bidding, please feel free to contact me for details. All the best, E
  11. Hello all. I will answer the questions/musings tomorrow, I have read them but im away at the moment and a proper response requires that I be home More soon. Thanks, E
  12. In light of my last comment, please see the auction topic here: Thanks all, E
  13. Hello all, Related to the Topic laying out my departure from the site and some of the struggles noted in finding a new owner, I have decided that auctioning the site and its associated assets is the next logical step. Below I will outline the relevant information so that all those that enter a bid, are fully aware of all the facts before doing so. What is included in the auction *ExtremeHW Community Forum *ExtremeHW Review Site *ExtremeHW Etsy Store *ExtremeHW Discord *ExtremeHW Socials (Facebook & X) *ExtremHW YouTube Channel *All Artwork Assets (Site Graphics/Social Media & Homepage Exposure Etc) *All Document Assets *All Custom Plugin Development *All Relationships Between ExtremeHW and Vendors *All Relationships Between ExtremeHW and Developers *All Service Logins *All Google Workspace Assets (Gdrive, Email Inboxes Etc) Minimum monthly cost of running the sites Dedicated Server Rental - $133.86 (Contractual agreement ends May 2025) Invision Community Suite - $17 ** Cloudflare - $25 Google Workspace - $47.77 Domain - $2.19 ** Font Awesome Pro - $8.25 ** ** Services that are billed annually but broken down monthly for clarity. For those who are less savvy or disinterested with respects to all things Server and Cloudflare management you can optionally retain the services of my server manager for an additional cost of $75 per month and includes the below. - General server management including but not limited to, Proactive care, Configurations, Software Updates, Security, Backups, Troubleshooting + More - Cloudflare management. (Web Access Firewall & Performance Optimization) This would leave you with managing the community only, which is the route I took to spare my time. **NOTE** The above costs can be value engineered by the new owner. The above details costs to keep the site online and does not include optional custom development/plugin upgrades. All information pertaining to optional costs will be detailed to the winner. Current Site Income/Stats If you wish to discover the sites income/stats please inquire via PM. Included help and support I will provide help and support via myself or another with respects to the running of the site if required. Taking on a site can come with questions and I am not going to abandon a new owner and leave them to struggle as this would be unfair. Support will be included but not limited to the below examples. *Support with gaining familiarity with the ExtremeHW platforms, Invision Community & Wordpress. *Support with backend management. This would include the integral services required for the running of the site including Server Management, Cloudflare Etc. *Any questions the new owner may have regarding the sites and related services. This is not included as part of the auction, but more of a gesture to make a transition as smooth as possible. How to submit a bid & deadline Please submit your highest bid to me via PM in US Dollars. If your bid has been beaten, you will be informed so that you can decide if you wish to increase your bid. The starting bid is set at $1000 (USD). **NOTE** Bidders will be PRIVATE.. I ask that you only bid if you are SERIOUS about taking on the community and its associated services. Winning bid is final once funds are transferred to the current owner. All sales are final and refunds will not be given under any circumstances. Bids will be accepted up until January 1st. The highest bidder at that time will be contacted and an announcement made in due course. Questions If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask via the topic or PM. If I feel the query should be answered privately, I will contact you via PM. All the best, E
  14. An auction was something I was considering running around December time, however there is no reason why I cannot kick an auction off now. I will prepare a topic on this now
