  1. ...cheap 2nd hand mining mobo/GPU frame, 5x Arctic P12 pst pwm and DeepCool 10 fan pwm controller - all works well & cost less than tipflation these days
  2. The recent introduction of Zen 4 Storm Peak Threadripper 7ks could be negatively affected by this news since Zen 5 core Threadripper must already exist as well and are socket-compatible at least with Storm Peak mobos. I also wonder when AMD will introduce some X3D versions of Zen 5 Epyc...64 or 96 full Zen 5 cores with X3D must be real monsters. R-DDR 5 now up to 6000, with some vendors offering R-DDR5 up to 7200 already. Put differently: I would love to see a release of Zen 5 Threadrippers sooner rather than later, as they seem 'out of phase'. Presumably, the next product line to receive Zen 5 cores will be the desktop (9000 series).
  3. DDR4 fallback...upgraded the CH8H-W 'beast of burden' to light dev and sql server duty...installed latest bios (4702) and then mounted 128 GB GSkill Ripjaws 3600. Glad to say it was relatively painless. Currently on stock timings and voltages - may do a bit fine tuning but this is a sql development server now, so no crazy stuff (that's reserved for my 7959X3D / DDR5 8200 (8400)
  4. ...light server setup for proof of concept; 128 GB (4x 32) GSkill Ripjaws 3600 plus assorted WD NVMEs and SSDs. 2x 64 GB thumb drives for $11 per packet
  5. ...if you got some liquid helium at home (and who doesn't), it'll do 9.1 giggles at - 231 C (for a few seconds) THW
  6. Dune's ornithopter at night in Finland --- sometimes upside-down...but no matter what the orientation, super-smooth at 4K max w/4090, 7950X3D and DDR5 8200...CPU sips power, GPU guzzles it...
  7. ...looks stunning ! @bonami2 ...latest patch pics (shrunk from 4K), everything maxed
  8. ...a few months old, but oh so very nice on an OLED
  9. I am sorry to hear about your situation; I can identify just a little bit, per earlier post, regarding old injuries which came back to haunt me. When I seriously injured my right foot (age 17) all those years ago, I (blissfully) had no idea what kind of trouble it would cause all those years later...cut nerves, metatarsal nerve pain due to foot geometry changes and all that...daily prescription pain killers and more. Still, it hasn't reduced my activities (including daily hikes) very much, at least for now.
  10. ...winter made a bit of a return this weekend (dashboard > 1 C). I like snow, though
  11. If you have the original CP2077, then adding Phantom Liberty makes it the 'Ultimate Edition'. But no matter its name, I really like the expansion noting that I tend to do less storyline / shooting and more roaming about. There are lots of new things to explore (ie. metro) and new vehicles, tunes and parts of town with more crime.
  12. Too bad AMD outlawed and gimped the MPT (More Power Tool, Igor & Co) for XT7K..my w-cooled 6900XT has a special 520W 1.25V core MPT vbios - still, even that doesn't get close to the 1kW 4090 XOC though
  13. ...some screenies transposed from 4K to 70% jpg...the original CP2077, then on to CP2077 Ultimate, followed by... ...FS2020
  14. Good advice...sometimes, the synthetic Aida cache and memory benchmark reacts positively to an 'out of synch' higher fclk but in actual applications and most other benches, out of synch gets worse - or at least leaves some potential scores on the table.
  15. With more games (including MSFS 2020) suggesting r_BAR and forced r_BAR works for others, I would definitely suggest the minimum system RAM at 32 GB (I'm running 2x 24 = 48GB DDR5). MSFS 2020 hammers one CPU core particularly hard and the reason why AMD X3D are top performers with MSFS2020 is the extra cache which in turn benefits from being fed by lots of fast system memory.
