  1. ...you don't like the new Phanteks T30-120s w/1200 rpm - 2000 rpm - 3000 rpm triple mode ? Test reviews are very positive, but there's of course the price. And the BQ SW3s are also very decent, depending what you have in mind re. rads. Per below, the 3000 rpm GT AP29s (right stack in top pic) are the overall general performance leaders in my setups, and for the cfm and rpm, they are actually 'acceptable' re. sound unlike some of the more modern stuff. The thicker Sunon 5K rpm server fans (center and back, top pic) push the most cfm, but you most likely want to do this within 20 seconds: The InWin (~1200 rpm fans, at top left) and the ThermalTake AIO fans (bottom left) were the most surprising to me, with the best cost-benefit ratio - I still use both sets even though they are over ten years old. AFAIK, they're still available. For me though, the Arctic P12 PWM PST in push/pull are performing so well that I don't have to go fan shopping for a while anyhow. Finally, as discussed in earlier posts, fan choice is also influenced by the fpi and thickness of the rads you're getting. Whatever you end up getting, I look forward to your build pics !
  2. I used to watch that channel a lot more than I do now, but I did see that review and wondered a bit why the numbers for the same fans were so different in other tests, ie. by Gamers Nexus and DerBauer. As an aside, Gamers Nexus recently got a real (and giant) professional airflow bench so I look forward to their upcoming reviews of fans, cases etc. In any case, even at lower rpm (ie. my initial testbench setup with 3x Arctic P12s at 1200 rpm), I had no problems. I still plan to try out the new Pnanteks 30s, with three stages - they look closest to my oldie GentleTyphoon AP29s. The most disappointing fan purchase for me were the Corsair's ML120s (9x). To get into the real cooling range, they have to run faster than 2k rpm and then start making a huge racket - louder at 2.4k rpm than the GentleTyphoons at 3k rpm - not only louder, but also at a more (for me, at least) annoying frequency.
  3. ...I have done business with both PPCs and FrozenCPU, pretty decent treatment by both. That includes recent transactions ( ~ 8 months ago) with the reincarnated FrozenCPU. As to fans, I now have over 50x Arctic P12s, and no issue (incl. noise) with any of them. I use them at max ~1800 rpm in push/pull. A single Artic P12 pwm pst doesn't get close to my GentleTyphoon AP29s in terms of performance, but they're a heck of a lot quieter and cheaper of course, at least when buying the 5-pack ones
  4. This might fit somewhat re. Elmor Labs latest ...
  5. ...GPU prices still seem to be a bit sticky here, but availability of top models is clearly much better. But I don't need any more GPUs for now. Anyhow, seen this ?
  6. ...it certainly is 'neutral'-looking and I like the topography (+ dual 2.5G, 4x M.2). I was waiting for Raptor Lake (and may still update to that) but geopolitics such as it is means 'just-in-time-inventory' isn't ideal for now.
  7. ...was at the store yesterday where we buy a lot for work-and-play, and had a chance to pick this up ...now waiting for Intel's ""5.5 GHz"" Core i9-12900KS to release, and GSkill's next DDR5 speed step. The 5950X is heading for video & compression content style work in the office, while the 3950X is now the daily beast of burden 'full-time'. What with even more potential global supply chain disruptions, better to stock up and be safe rather than sorry... Thinking black-and-gold theme re. cooling peripherals...
  8. 'grats again, Bastiaan ! Per my comment > here, time to fill your thumb drive !
  9. First, a big for your HWBot league 1st place run ! As to my HWBot, I was in the extreme league and haven't subbed for points in many, many, many years...I do the odd 3DMark these days, but mostly, I just like to push hardware for my own purposes. As to keeping higher back-up scores on a thumb drive 'for later', that is true. But it is not s.th. special I invented; most (former and current) HWBotters do that - with all your HWBot Overclocker League golds, you might want to build one up yourself (if you haven't already done so) as folks will come gunning for your points and cups.
  10. ...vendor locking (ie. Lenovo, per below) is truly annoying, and somewhat reminiscent of the situation preceding 'right to repair' legislation, IMO...
  11. I normally use either 2x Antec 1300W HPC which have a proprietary OClink to each other (for an easy 2600W), or heavy-gage multi- PSU cable trees - like the ones below but better wiring...probably what you need if you want to run dual upcoming dual 4090 Tis
  12. I agree - vendor-locked launches are , even if said vendor (w/ HQ in China !) does all the software app certifications. In any event, one of the reviewers was apparently told by AMD that by June/July, the new 5000WX chips will be available to other vendors, probably at $$$
  13. Yeah, apart from running costs, some GPU vendors is also a bit tone deaf re. the times. Even my 3090 Strix OC pulled over 500W straight out of the box already (before custom vbios). I haven't bought a PSU with less than 1300W for my systems for a decade, and sill live of a pile of those which used to do Quad-SLI for HWBot in multi-format way back. I can only imagine 2x of the upcoming 4090 KPEs slurping the juice; even the rumoured KPE 3090 Ti is apparently > 600W w/ full PL on its own... Where I live, 98% of our electricity comes from hydro, and electricity costs are 'reasonable' - but costs are certainly not going down.
  14. ...back from Saturday shopping; and time to check my thumb drive 5950x updated multi (single stays as-is for now)... 3950X updated (new single per yesterday, updated multi) @Storm-Chaser ...the 3950X might move a spot in the table (may be, may be not )
  15. ...if you say so... ...currently focusing on the 3950X though; single CPUz (top left) is ready for your perusal for the table.
  16. ...sorry to hear about the leak onto your mobo - I guess you're getting a new mobo ?! In any case, LM such as Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut recommend +8 C as the lower limit.
  17. ...128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 allow for a lot of expansion 'of everything'...
  18. The current Threadripper Pro 3kxyz (as opposed to the regular Threadripper) also has 'low' core count SKUs. The gen before that, the 'regular' Threadripper (Pro didn't exist then) also had 12 and 16 core models (I still have the latter, a nice 2950X). These new ones, ie. 5995WX, have the Zen3 related core, so IPC etc from the 5950X...they will be absolute monsters, at least until the Zen4 core based versions arrive with DDR5...
  19. Source Think of the 5995WX as 4x 5950X and 8-channel RAM under one big IHS...
  20. I love dem fins , not to mention the VRM caps and the football-field sized chipset cooler that runs all the way to the PCIe slots. BTW, this thing was as fast if not faster with mulit-GPUs as the equivalent-gen Rampage Extreme I also had (have).
  21. ...lots of threads on liquid metal (LM)...re. insulation, since LM is conductive, you want some sort of conformal coating around the die area / anything which might come into contact with the LM. El Cheapo modus operandi is to use nail polish (colour is up to you ). For GPUs (ie. vertical ones in a test-bench) I also added an additional outside ring w/ MX4 or other non-conductive pastes as extra insurance, over and above conformal coating. Also, as mentioned above, LM and sub-zero is a big no-no
  22. I've used LM with great success before on both delidded CPUs, and also GPUs. Apart from making sure to do the proper insulation around nearby components, the only other thing to keep in mind is that LM is not suitable for sub-zero.
  23. I have all PBO values such as TDC and EDC on default...picked the Dark Hero / 5950X combo up from the store we do a lot of business with, and it came with bios 3501 which works just fine re. 'everything, all the time', including r_BAR. I'm a bios update Luddite anyway (unless it is for a security fix) if I haven't got any issues in the first place
  24. ...but if 2014 was your period of youth, how come you're already at 'midlife-crisis' ?
