  1. 30 L Dewar worked fine, plus they sold them for the equivalent of 8 Euros each... My 'upgrade path' might involve Mr. Artisan's ice-cream not even a block from here...at least in normal (non-Covid) times, they always have a lineup for their LN2 cooled ice-cream, and 4x 200 L > Dewars behind the counter
  2. No, it had been professionally cleaned...but it was kind of funny as we picked the Dewars up (a friend and fellow-OCer also bought one). It was during regular business hours for the clinic w/ plenty of couples sitting in the waiting room adjacent to the elevator foyer, with the males clutching the little glass tubes containing their, ahem, contributions...as we walked out towards the elevator foyer past those folks, we had our arms around our big 30 L Dewar 'test-tubes'...size matters
  3. ...one day when I'm less busy, I might get back to some sub-zeroing. BTW, 30 L Dewar has an interesting history, saw it on Craigslist back in the day, came from a fertility clinic...
  4. That's a nice improvement over your previous run with the 2x 3090s ! ...AC unit can't hurt, either for your next run. I came across an old HWBot box in storage with 2x CPU pots and 1x GPU pot, along w/ a 30 L LN2 Dewar next to it...fortunately, I'm too busy at work, coz that could be quite a fun time-killer
  5. ...same here...just updated NVMEs a couple of months back for all my systems, among them WD SN850
  6. Currently, it is more serial than parallel, but it can all be switched around via QDs. Essentially, there's a common reservoir with 5 in/outlets, so if one pump fails (rare to never), the others continue to pump liquids through the shared loop - and will equalize pressure along the loop. In fact, during initial filling and bleeding operations, I started with only one D5, then powered the second one, and finally added the third. This pic from EKWB is for illustration purposes only since the triple D5 system above uses different D5 pumps (each rated at up to 1500 lph / 4700 rpm) and a different common reservoir. Via QDs, I can make my 5950X system a true dual parallel loop system (CPU separate from GPU) with a second identical 5 in/outlet reservoir, but that is for later when these loops will be doing some HEDT again. The loops and rads are designed to handle up to 2000 W of heat energy. For example, each of these maxes at 400W (before the CPU) As an aside, until I got into the 3950X and 5950X, I hadn't build a 'desktop' system since '14, only HEDT (basically, the pro-sumer / light server space). But AMD and Intel have been slow this time around in bringing out corresponding HEDT parts, and of course AMD has the 3950X/5950X which sit somewhere between regular desktop and HEDT / pro-sumer. With AMD, the Epyc servers now offer up to 8x 'Ryzen 5K type' cores while the corresponding Threadripper/Pro parts are still based on the 3800X cores'...question is whether AMD will offer updated Threadripper/Pro parts based on the 5800X (or even 5800Xv3cache?) or just keep on trucking as is until Zen4 chiplets are called upon for future Threadripper. Intel is similar, nothing new in the HEDT space since the 10980XE, though there are 56 Core Sapphire Rapids Xeons ES around, hinting at a HEDT pro-sumer Saphire Rapids X w/ Raptor cores... Sorry, I digressed - the point is simply to configure a cooling system that has fail-over, very high flow and can be updated / reconfigured / expanded via QDs down the line w/o tearing down the whole loop.
  7. ...water-cooling makes eminent sense if you run a CPU and GPU with aggressive boost algorithms that have temps as an input I typically use a minimum of 2x D5s in a circuit (mostly because I also build water-cooled servers and want the fail-over) but sometimes I use 3x D5s, like the white-ringed-ones at the back, if I have an otherwise unused D5. I prefer the ones with both PWM and manual adjustment, though I rarely connect the PWM. In the pic below, I 'slowed' the 3x D5s to about 55% or so via the manual adjustment knob on the back ....they're also rubber-mounted and perfectly quiet at that speed.
  8. re. the EVGA Rev0.1, didn't EVGA offer an exchange if one requested it ? re. AC, our AC unit came in handy last summer during the multiple 'heat domes', with 40 C+ / especially useful at night when trying o sleep. That said, they usually don't go below 16C - 18C in their max cooling setting. But I have an old phase cooler that still works but really can only handle 4c/8t directly...I'm thinking about having it cool a basin of water that also has a big rad in it connecting it via QDs to the loop. The phase cooler goes to -50 C, but with enough water circulating, I should be able to calibrate this 'chiller'
  9. ...made it past 20k in Superposition 4K Optimized with the Strix 3090, thanks to 15 C ambient and KPE 520W vbios. Just MSI AB sliders for now; default driver settings...got to take a look at MSI AB curve and nv -smi as well soon ...also updated the Superposition 4K Optimized for the 6900XT
  10. Noice ! 2x 3090s make the lights flicker ? Ran the 3090 Strix w/ KPE 520 bios and a nice 15 C ambient. Just MSI AB sliders, no MSI AB curve or nv -smi (that comes later)
  11. ...No problem ! Inching my way towards 20K w/ default driver settings in Superposition 4K with the 3090 Strix...probably have to drop ambient below 21 C to do it.
  12. ...according to Koolance, it doesn't matter. The directional arrows below are just for the spring-loaded locking rings
  13. I started out with the EK Nickel-Acrylic block and backplate for the 3090 Strix, but those had multiple quality issues. The Phanteks has been extremely good so far re. quality as well as performance - it has a much larger micro-fin area over the die than the comparable EK and temps in the same loop are noticeably better. Like many vertically mounted RTX3K blocks, they are prone to collect and trap a big air bubble 'at the top left' when viewed from the front. I used the stock Strix backplate which is actually very good but modded it w/ Dremel and also added a big heat-sink that covers most of the entire back, along with plenty of TG Thermal Putty. VRAM temps per post above.
  14. ...yeah, the only time I ever had a complaint from the neighbors was with one of those
  15. As the Ravens' Nest builds are finally finished, it was time to give the GPUs a bit of a workout to see how they like their new homes nests.
  16. Wow, what happened ? All the test you showed in this thread like 7 & 8 hrs Prime95 and CPU tests showed that it was doing well.
  17. All you need now is (more) TG 10 Thermal Putty !
  18. Nice re. the deadline ! If I can find the time, I want to do a retro-build of my 3770K (5 giggles on water) and its old buddy, the Asus Maximus V Extreme - my first 'real' OC combo. Might be a while, but I'll do the CPUz thing. I love that mobo and kept it for nostaligia. The 3770K is delidded and has some (by now very old) liquid metal on it / I better scrape that off
  19. @Storm-Chaser ...look like it's getting busy around here w/ folks wanting to get their updates in before the (flexible?) deadline ...Here are some updates for the three Stooges Musketeers...updates are for CPUz single thread only, so please keep the multi-thread scores for now...I might do a batch of new multi-thread later AMD 2950X New single thread score = 505.2 / 4.4 GHz... (old single thread was 502.9) AMD 3950X New single thread score = 578.6 / 4.7 GHz... (old single score was 573.8) AMD 5950X New single thread score = 704.4 / > 5 GHz... (old single score was 693.9)
  20. ...so you say - but the smoke on the horizon is telling
  21. I love Crytek's games / engine, not least as they're usually SLI-CFR friendly so I better send my TR / 2x 2080 Ti system back to the gym to get ready
  22. I also find this OCN thread very helpful re. the Asus CH8 series...Asus ROG also posts beta bios there - for us guinea pigs > here
  23. I've still got a single phase cooler which would would be another option for a nice - 50C, but for hi-po GPUs or anything more than 5-10 year old 4C/8T CPUs, single phase transient response under high loads is too slow even if they eventually catch up (at which point you already crashed). Cascading phase coolers solve that, but they basically take up a garage. DICE might be indeed the better option...if you go that route, try to get the 'crushed / rice kernel' sized DICE, or crush it yourself into very small pieces for much better control and temps. Still, acetone at the bottom of a pot w/ DICE can 'spit' all over the place.
  24. ...very nice & should keep you busy for a while ! Slippery slope though, straight from the horse's mouth
  25. The 5950X / Dark hero combo is already pretty much 'optimized' right out of the box. I've tried different PPT/TDC/EDC and ' + clock boost' options but I usually just get back to the stock bios settings for most apps, or the DynamicOC. I would also be very careful with BCLK...in the olden days, that was a mainstay of my oc tuning (mostly for Intel back then, and I typically would start at 100MHz > 103.5MHz). But with the 5950X, either the nvme drive(s) disappear, or bench results drop dramatically because auto boost settings disable when doing smaller BCLK increments.
