  1. I don't think the battery cycle would be that intense. The probe doesn't have a standard orbit, and it spends the vast majority of its time on the further out part of its elliptical orbit (aphelion) meaning it's probably almost never in shadow and thus getting constant power from its solar panels. The battery probably acts most like a big capacitor rather than something that needs to hold a long charge for the whole thing to run off of. Its orbital period is less than 7 hours. Even if it does go into shadow often, which is kind of unlikely, it would only do so at its closest and therefore fastest part of its orbit since with an elliptical orbit, the satellite will speed up a lot as it moves to its closest point to the planet (perihelion). The probe does go into shadows sometimes, but it only happens when the orbit is in-line with the sun. The orbiter does not simply orbit on one plane so the time it would spend in shadow would be rare and probably only a couple minutes at a time. It's probably also safe to assume the probe doesn't do much during these times since it would not be idea to take pictures in the dark.
  2. Playing Cyberpunk with this mod is my first experience with any smart upscaler and It's definitely impressive, but I think the most impressive part is probably how clean it still looks at the lowest quality setting. You can definitely notice some of the issues in this game that come from rendering at a low internal res like asset pop in but the actual image quality is surprisingly good across the board. Makes Full RT playable at 4K on my GPU, performance is pretty good.
  3. Yea I think we're all well aware of how far journalistic integrity has fallen, but usually they don't state something that's totally false in the headline (or at least it usually doesn't happen outside of politics much). Tech Radar's article is just flat out wrong since it states directly that the space probe is running windows 98 which is simply not true at all. If they correct the article, it would be the second time recently that I have e-mailed the Chief Editor of a major website and gotten them to correct an error, both related to things about outer space.
  4. I think Tech Radar is way off on this reporting. The Mars Express is not running Windows 98, and they seem to have gotten pretty far away from the original quote that lead to this reporting. "We faced a number of challenges to improve the performance of MARSIS," Enginium's Carlo Nenna said in a statement. "Not least because the MARSIS software was originally designed over 20 years ago, using a development environment based on Microsoft Windows 98!" Only the software used to develop MARSIS was running Windows 98, not MARSIS itself. I don't think it should be a surprise to anyone that the computers they used to run their dev tools 20 years ago were running on the version of Windows that was around at the time. It looks like a few sites took this info and totally misrepresented it for click bait. Mars Express Is Getting a Long-Overdue Software Upgrade WWW.PCMAG.COM A critical part of the spacecraft uses software designed on Windows 98. I sent an email to Tech Radars chief editor to let them know their article is wrong. Wonder if they'll fix it. The headline for their article is blatantly wrong.
  5. Speaking of Star Trek, have any of you guys watched any of season 3 of The Orville? So far it's been really good. I think it's better than Strange New Worlds, which is just OK. Picard and Discovery really lowered the bar so much that at this point any new ST show just has to be OK to feel like a big success. I think if Strange New worlds had come out after Voyager and DS9 ended instead of Enterprise, it would have gotten a similar reception to Enterprise, maybe worse. Strange New Worlds feels like a pretty goofy show far too often, and other than the episode about the comet being a technological religious thing, there has hardly been any unique plots, everything is kinda a rehash of old ideas from older shows but with a somewhat more goofy cast. I could rant about this for a long time... The Orville by comparison started out with Seth Mcfarlane's usual comedic brand, but season 3 has been anything but funny. It's dead serious and they have actually come up with some new plot ideas that are deep and interesting.
  6. Voyager is one of my most memorable shows from back then since it was still current when I was a young teen. That wad the show that turned me into a trekkie. Still can't bring myself to sit through TOS though, when I see how the women had to dress in that show it makes it impossible for me to take any of it seriously and just makes me think of the fact that Roddenberry was a cheating horny old man despite being a great sifi producer. Also: Stealth Cats, Beast Wars
  7. I tried the mod, it works really well. Try it, i don't think official support will really change anything.
  8. Seems like a pretty big oversight from Intel, especially now that CPUs tend to put out a lot more heat due to having more cores and the need for good cooling solutions is so much greater. It's impressive how big of a difference the Thermal Grizzly bracket makes too.
  9. You can replace DLSS with AMD FSR 2.0 in Cyberpunk 2077 with this mod WWW.TECHSPOT.COM According to its author, enabling FSR 2.0 via the mod just about doubled their 4K performance on a GTX 1080, to 45 fps. And, as you can... Mod link: FidelityFx Super Resolution 2.0 at Cyberpunk 2077 Nexus - Mods and community WWW.NEXUSMODS.COM FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 for Cyberpunk Very cool, hope to see this in more games, officially or via a mod. It's interesting that DLSS and DSR are so similar that it's this easy to add support for one when support for the other is already there. FSR has only been up on github for a few days. Update: Unofficial FSR 2.0 mod arrives to several more games including Dying Light 2, RDR 2 and Death Stranding WWW.TECHSPOT.COM After modders added FSR 2.0 to Cyberpunk 2077 by replacing the game's DLSS implementation, they...
  10. is this too dark? Definitely bassy
  11. Taiwan isn't controlled by China yet. The issue would be security. For the same reasons the US banned a bunch of Chinese phone manufacturers, for the same reason that using Kaspersky is a bad idea. Imagine something like Intel ME designed and controlled by the Chinese government.
  12. AMD FSR 2.0 source code is out – and so are the knives for Nvidia DLSS | TechRadar WWW.TECHRADAR.COM Is the influence of AI on upscaling quality overrated? Hope this makes it into Cyberpunk soon.
  13. Oh word. I didn't see that tiny part from my phone screen.
  14. Even though the article doesn't use the term "settlement", this sounds like a settlement. It seems the cheat company may have decided to pay to end the lawsuit to avoid the potential for much higher fines.
  15. Destiny 2 Cheat Distributor Agrees To Pay Bungie $13.5 Million - IGN WWW.IGN.COM A company that distributed Destiny 2 cheats has agreed to pay Bungie $13.5m in damages following a lawsuit. Rare to see these companies face consequences for this kind of thing as far as I know.
  16. Want to write an article for the site that will show up in the carousel? Please let me know! I will be helping out simply as a coordinator to help get new articles up on the site made by anyone here who is interested in writing an article. My role is just to help streamline the process so that it's less work for Enterprise, but this is not a position of authority or moderation, just helping coordinate. What to write about? We're looking for people who want to write about what interests them. It's good if the topic is more current, but it doesn't have to be. If you have something that you feel you can write about with some unique perspective, that's the main thing we're looking for. Please PM me if you are interested and let me know what you want to write about. Potential ideas: Game reviews, retro is OK too. Unique hardware, mods (software or hardware), OP-ed about anything in the tech market, or whatever other ideas you have! Articles should be at least 5 paragraphs and follow standard essay structure: One intro paragraph, 3 or more body paragraphs, one conclusion paragraph. It should also include at least a couple images when applicable. So let me know if you're interested! I will help make sure the formatting is all good and then submit it to Enterprise for him to post on the Carousel.
  17. Russian users report that they can't download Windows 10 and 11 WWW.TECHSPOT.COM Users in Russia are currently unable to download Windows 10 and 11 ISOs and installation tools from Microsoft's... Easy to get around with a VPN, but I'd still hate to be a gamer in Russia these days, or just be in Russia at all.
  18. Since I do PC repair, I see a lot of failing hard drives that I just replace with SSDs. For a long time I've noticed a pattern... A lot of these drives are western digital blue drives. If I encounter a PC with a failing drive, there is like a 70% chance it will be a western digital blue. Anyone else notice this? I know they are cheap and common drives which is definitely a factor, but I see so many of them fail that I'll just replace them whenever I see them, failing or not.
  19. UE5 real time water physics demo running at 60fps on a 1080Ti
  20. I doubt it will succeed as well, but Musk definitely does use his influence to impact the markets of a lot of things, not just crypto. It's kinda crazy how much he gets away with.
