  1. Seller gave me the partial refund I asked for.
  2. Quick update, I got all 6 laptops and they all work, all have windows 11 installed now. One of them seems like it had the screen replaced with a screen that doesn't support touch even though it should be a touch screen, and one of the chargers may be going bad. I will contact the seller and see if he will give me a partial refund foe those two things since they were not mentioned in the listing. Other than that though, so far so good. Next step will be to test the battery life on them but so far it seems the batteries are in good shape. So far it's feeling like its on track to work out.
  3. https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/aepicleak-cpu-bug-affects-intel-core-processors-from-the-10th11thand-12th-generations.html Another day, another new vulnerability.
  4. Really interested to see how the next CPU gen race plays out. Now that Intel and AMD both have very mature high core CPUs and are focusing on IPC and clock speeds again, this is really becoming a good market again.
  5. Nvidia reduces revenue prediction due to video card demand. (guru3d.com) Good news for buyers. Before the economic shift back when stocks were just going up and up all the time, I would see articles all the time saying to buy Nvidia stock because it was so undervalued, but looking at the numbers that didn't make sense to me at all unless you assumed that crypto would never come back down. In the last year Nvidia's stocks has gone from a peak of ~$330 to ~$190. Definitely glad I didn't take the advice on any of those articles back then.
  6. I will keep that in mind, but I suspect it won't be much of an issue with win11 compatible devices. That said, I've definitely seen it on the HP printer side. Absolutely garbage software from HP lately.
  7. Same. I don't even own a laptop (other than the ones I intend to sell), even though as someone who is vastly familiar with them I could easily source myself a really good deal on one.
  8. Bro I'm from the bay area. We consider all traffic signs short of a red light to be suggestions at best. 85 MINIMUM on the freeway. But there is a time and place, you never want to be the fastest car on the road. I still think it was mostly the other cars fault but there is a good chance a cop wouldn't have seen it that way since you were speeding. Just because you're not speeding by a lot, doesn't make you any less liable if it's a factor in an accident. Even if it wasn't your fault that doesn't mean you couldn't have done more to make the accident less likely. You said yourself this is the third time this has happened to you. Bit of a common denominator thing going on. Getting in car accidents is not something that should be sugar coated.
  9. I have to agree. If she hadn't left I suspect you may have been found at fault for speeding. If there's one time you want to lean on the side of caution while driving, it's when going through a bunch of intersections with unprotected turn lanes.
  10. Yea sure that's probably how most of us gamers would feel, but laptops are easier to resell, cheaper shipping.
  11. You didn't do anything wrong, you just weren't driving defensively either. The other car messed up and that's why it's good to be a little on guard when you go through an area like that. Assume other people are gonna mess up once in a while.
  12. We all speed, me especially, but I try to limit that mostly to the freeway. There were a lot of intersections and turn lanes there, maybe there's a lesson in here somewhere about being more careful around busy areas because other people are likely to pull out in front of you when they turn left. A few months ago I was on my way to a funeral, and I stopped to get flowers. In the parking lot a woman backed her car into mine while I was pulling out even though I had pulled out way before her and I honked a bunch, but she didn't see me at all. The woman noticed the flowers in my car and she said "what kind of dog is that". Gotta watch out for bad drivers.
  13. OK, I believe you but looking at the video you were going faster than all the other cars. Maybe that's partly why the other car thought they had more time, basing off the other cars going your way. Car accidents are usually a mix of one person being mostly at fault while the other was probably not giving themselves enough time to react. I've been in accidents when I was younger that were definitely my fault, no judgment here.
  14. Damn bro u were mashing, passing all the other cars on the road. ~55mph, looks like it was a 35mph zone. The other car probably thought they had more time. They probably still should have waited to pull out but seems like sort of a mutual accident. Fast driving plus pulling out too early.
  15. Sooooo I made offers below the buy it now price on a few listings and 2 of them were accepted, so right now I'm looking at a total of 6 laptops, all 8th gen i5 4 core 8 thread CPUs, all comes with everything except OS and only two of them need repair to the cases. All and all with what I expect to pay for the case parts I need, I'm in it for about $900. I think if I can make $1200 back, I'll consider it a success. We'll see what happens. This will be an interesting experiment for sure. I think they all come with a single 8GB ram chip so perhaps I'll buy some extra ram for a few of them and sell a couple with 16GBs just to see what happens. Edit: 6 laptops. IDK why I said 9 before, just a moment of dyslexia I guess. I bought 4 from one guy and 2 from another guy so like $150 per unit.
  16. Yea? You want one of these? DELL LATITUDE 5491 14" FHD CORE i5-8400H 8GB 256GB SSD
  17. Edit: Figured I'd update the OP since I've already gotten the ball rolling here. Experiment: Buy laptops in bulk on ebay and try to turn them around for a profit. I decided I would only go with 8th gen or newer CPUs for two reasons: Double the threads of all previous gens Support for Windows 11 Step one: Buy laptops Right now I have purchased 6 laptops from two different sellers for a total of about $850. I expect to pay about $50 in parts for two of them that need the palm-rest section of casing replaced. All 8th gen i5 8GB RAM 256GB SSD 1080p laptops that come with everything, batteries and chargers included. Step two: Refurbishment The two that need the palm-rests sections replaced will be kind of a pain because that's the section the motherboard, battery, hingers, and basically everything else is attached to but it shouldn't take too long. Maybe an hour for each one at the most. I expect these all have windows 10 keys tied to them already so there shouldn't be any cost for the OS. I will probably install windows 11 on them or some of them because it's a newer OS and looks good for a listing. Possibly add more ram to some of them. Step Three: Profit! My goal will be to make at least $300, or $50 per unit on average, for a total of $1200 back on a $900 investment. If I can make $300 for a couple hours of laptop repair and a trip to the post office plus time spent browsing ebay all from home, I will consider that a success. Other thoughts: I think by limiting this to 8th gen and above, it puts this experiment in a good position in the sense that any 8 thread laptop with an nvme drive and a 1080p screen is going to be current enough to avoid seeming out of date to any potential buyers. I don't think it will be hard to make at least some profit to avoid only breaking even, but we'll see how much and if this is something that can be a profitable side project. What's interesting is a lot of these laptops are listed with no OS even though they come with hard drives. You would think the sellers would bother to run a USB windows installer before selling them but for whatever reason, a lot of them just don't. So for most of these, the refurbishment will basically be installing the OS, cleaning them, and reselling them.
  18. Ukraine shuts down Russian bot farm operating one million fake accounts that spread disinformation WWW.TECHSPOT.COM The SSU writes that the farm's goal was to discredit Ukraine's leadership and destabilize the country's social and... Interesting to see some details about these bot farms. Lets not dive into politics please. Alt source: Ukraine takes down 1,000,000 bots used for disinformation WWW.BLEEPINGCOMPUTER.COM The Ukrainian cyber police (SSU) has shut down a massive bot farm of 1,000,000 bots used to spread disinformation on social networks.
  19. The AMD 6400 goes for $170. 6500 for $190. If you follow some of the details about their driver struggles I think you will find the situation to be far worse than simple growing pains. Keep in mind the 6400 has less ram and uses less power than the arc gpu, and it still beats it by a lot.
  20. Isn't this technically their second gen? I thought the DG1 was basically the gen1 beta. You'd also think they would be more prepared from having so many iGPUs out in the wild but I guess this goes to show how neglected their iGPU driver have also been.
  21. Are Intel Arc graphics cards dead on arrival? WWW.TECHSPOT.COM Igor Wallossek of Igor's Lab writes that he has spoken to some dealers, potential distributors, and manufacturers in the European area about Intel's Arc cards, and there... Finally, a 1050Ti replacement... kinda... TLDR: As I understand it, there are two main reasons these new GPUs are struggling so much. One, Intel took a unique architecture approach that can be described as Intel going wide where competitors go tall, or vice versa. And the second reason being that, in part due to their unique architecture, the drivers and game optimization is down right terrible. Intel vastly underestimated the complexity of driver implementation, and they are realizing that they're years behind and offer no incentive to devs to optimize for their hardware. I think Intel will keep pressing on until they get it right, but it could be several years before they get there.
  22. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-core-i7-13700k-overclocked-to-6ghz/?amp Knew this would happen witch stock speeds being so close to 6ghz and now it has.
  23. That shouldn't be a surprise. They're building a ton of new fabs right now, and I'm sure stiff competition from AMD is playing a part but I think it's mostly got to be due to them making a lot of manufacturing investments. They will for sure make it back with government incentives and taking on domestic customers.
