  1. I watch the stock numbers for my local Micro Center regularly. My store keeps them pretty accurate on their site for each card model. Its slowed down now because I think anyone in the market for a $1600+ GPU bought one by now, but until it hit that point, the 4090s were selling like hot cakes here while the lower tier Nvidia cards were sitting or moving much slower.
  2. I get not everyone has a local brick and mortar selling 4090s but here they are constantly moving stock. 4080s, not so much. It's slowed down now, but 4090s have no problem selling.
  3. I think everyone on this site who has a 4090 is running a custom BIOS.
  4. This is where I think dedicated gaming graphics don't really matter in the grand scheme of things to them. The enthusiast in me who is hoping to learn volt and shunt modding totally agrees with you. Business wise, Lisa Su really turned that company around. So naturally you know how that's going to go.
  5. Well thanks for your input. It seems you are going for a quantity methodology here. I get it, but also feel like the random LTT crap just hides actual member videos so that was my only concern. I don't feel like people are coming to EHW to find LTT videos so it just clutters and suppresses the actual videos you mention there are few of. I guess I am looking at it from a standpoint of we are in a niche area so its going to be niche on videos too. Honestly I didn't find a lot of the cooler videos @Bastiaan_NL put up because they were always forced out of rotation by random LTT, JayzTwoCents, or other stuff. I guess I am looking at it like that.
  6. Yes. J7SC, Enterprise, Baastian, Neurotix are a few I am aware of running higher power bioses. I am sure there are others. Its really more common than you might think at that product tier. Yep, you've hit the nail on the head here, and this is why simply pricing AMD products into Nvidia's stack is a losing proposition. Its not just the raster performance level you have to compare, you're losing at pretty much all feature comparisons and obviously in RT as well just in gaming. You've brought up great points about workstation. And say what you want about RT, its clearly a big deal on the market at the enthusiast level. Anyway, I want to see AMD succeed, I was an ATI Radeon guy in the early 2000's, I would never even consider Nvidia back then. This was also back when they were the ones pushing the envelope. Would love to see them recapture that sort of mindshare and commitment for innovation, but for whatever reason AMD or Radeon Technology Group or whoever seems hell bent on not doing anything right to get there.
  7. I bought the mug, but I don't actually drink coffee or caffeinated tea. Herbal teas once in a while, I also like Peppermint like @damric. I just in general do not drink caffeine much at all. Maybe 1 soda a week. The few times I tried coffee it gave me horrendous stomach pain, and while I am not a morning person, I do just get going when I get going, never felt a need for caffeine. I dabbled in energy drinks when I was working one horrendous job years ago and sometimes had to figure out how to stay awake till 4am even though I had started working at 7am that day and maybe got a 3 hour break in the evening. After that I was done with that stuff. It really is just worse soda. Anyway, its probably for the best. I've got acid reflux issues due to a hiatal hernia plus some other things, so could probably do without the acidity.
  8. Well last I saw, Nvidia had something like 85% market share in the discrete GPU space. What AMD needs to do if they care at all about that space is figure out how to push marketshare gain. At this point they are going to be losing share to Intel Arc. The problem with the Radeon arm is this - so what if they made a 600W GPU. Nvidia does and nobody gives a crap in the enthusiast space. How many 4090 owners on this site alone are running 660W BIOS, or 1kw BIOS on some of their Ampere products? So I fail to see that as a reason. Which leads me to my next point - marketing. AMD does a piss poor job of marketing Radeon and so the general consumer just gets the idea that AMD is playing catchup to Nvidia in feature parity in things like RT and DLSS. They are right. Which leads to my last point - pricing. AMD thinks they can just slot into Nvidia pricing and somehow that's supposed to excite the market that currently has 85% Nvidia cards. What would have excited the market was a 4090 killer at $999. Sure its lacking in DLSS and RT parity but its also $600 cheaper and beats it in raster. That would be cool. But no, AMD fails to do anything excited to push marketshare once again.
  9. OK, my personal opinions about EK aside, that was a good read and fantastic performance. Once again top notch formatting on the review too. I will need to learn your ways...
  10. So that's probably primarily console - which makes sense. Dedicated GPU silicon for 7nm last gen was like lowest on AMD's priority list.
  11. I can kinda understand that, but maybe should still be helpful guides or whatever, not random LTT videos. That really seems to be antithesis of member video submissions.
  12. I was never claiming gaming wasn't important. Does that segment include Ryzen or is that only gaming graphics? If graphics though, very interesting, because that wasn't true 2 years ago.
  13. To be fair, I am also not sure the consumer gaming graphics division really matters in the grand scheme of the company, but we'll see.
  14. Well I do plan to pickup a 14900k for the test bench at some point after they release. Look forward to playing around on Intel again.
  15. From on top. The plastic socket cover attaches on top of the retention bracket, hence why it would pop off if you close the mechanism with a CPU installed. I found this video, I know its pretty rudimentary in explaining things, but it shows how the cover works. It helps in alignment only so much as it also has the corner triangle on it for correctly aligning the CPU with the socket. The socket also has the triangle though. But you can see clearly how the plastic cover works. Basically all to say, the plastic cover isn't going to help you with anything you haven't already done just socketing the processor.
  16. LGA socket covers just snap back onto the retention mechanism. They will pop off if you close the retention mechanism with a CPU installed. They are literally just for protecting the pins when no CPU is present in the socket. I am not sure how it helps with "alignment" - the CPU can only go in one way due to notches in the socket/CPU.
  17. Agreed. And holistically they have a booming consumer CPU and server business now too. GPU is small potatoes.
  18. Right. The cover I believe has the little corner triangle on it, etc. If your CPU is in the socket, this isn't your problem. I mean you should try a remount sure, but literally all socket covers for LGA sockets pop out when you install a CPU. They aren't really for alignment, they just protect the socket.
  19. I'm lost as to how a socket cover is going to fix a broken CCD. The CPUs can only go in one way as far as I'm aware due to notching in the chip and socket. The socket cover is only used to protect the pins when a CPU is not installed in the socket.
  20. Dumb move. They've been down this road before and all it did was lose marketshare overall. RDNA3 clearly had issues that kept it from hitting the performance targets they wanted. If they fix those issues going forwards into RDNA4 and beyond with multi-chip design I don't see an issue with them competing in the top end space. The biggest issue is they need to do better than just slotting into Nvidia's dumb pricing, or else be a massive discount because they've yet to reach a feature parity and are playing catchup still in RT and DLSS - which say what you want about them, do seem to matter as points of comparison at the top end.
  21. Yep I agree. Most of the time my list has multiple LTT videos, JayzTwo Cents, and Bill Gates on Letterman with maybe 1 or 2 actual member submissions. Other times at least the podcast videos come up, though kinda old now given that's not currently active.
  22. Hello! So I normally don't go here because instead of actual member submissions, I usually just see a bunch of LTT videos and Bill Gates on David Letterman for some reason on the video banner which don't seem like member submissions at all. But every now and then a gem pops up such as @Bastiaan_NL's excellent videos around volt modding and other things, as well as @Mr. Fox's excellent videos around overclocking. Just wondering if this was on purpose? Seems LTT and JayzNoSense is drowning out actual member submissions and those don't feel like member submissions at all, more like reposting of other people's videos. Maybe those should go somewhere else, or just be posted as a normal discussion thread? When I think of "member submissions", I would think member made videos. I doubt LTT and Jay is on EHW. Just a thought I had.
  23. I mean the launch price of the 7900 XT was a joke, but as is often the case with AMD, the MSRP course corrects rather quickly. I agree at $750ish, its a great buy.
  24. I was going to make a joke about spilling water on it to @firedfly expense. But obviously not the same thing as putting it in hot water for 30 minutes. Honestly seems like a fantastic idea.
