  1. Ah, I see what you are saying, especially about other tasks besides gaming, in which case I totally agree that 7950X/X3D will have more lasting power. Yeah will be curious about that as well. Still $700.
  2. I'm not even sure the 7950X3D is what you want if all you care about is gaming, I highly doubt it will perform any better in gaming scenarios than the 7800X3D when it releases and I think that's why they are launching that one later. EDIT: Anyway, in my mind, Zen 4 was an iterative improvement on Zen 3 with a die shrink and boost in clock-speeds, as well as a platform change to LGA and DDR5. I don't find Zen 4 particularly compelling for an upgrade from my current Zen 3. I'll be much more interested to see what Zen 5 and Meteor Lake look like. EDIT 2: Also, not sure what resolution you play at, but I'd be curious to see the X vs X3D parts comparison at 1440p and 4k.
  3. Wow, thought that was a weird number till I realized it was literally 2x 24GB dimms.
  4. If you can actually find any in-stock FE cards. I believe those deals are FE only.
  5. Sounds about right for reddit. Take a look at r/watercooling if you want to see a real joke of a subreddit.
  6. Yeah my current set of glasses is 6 years old and the frames have seen better days. I wear whenever I am awake, so not just reading glasses. I really should go back in and get a new eye exam and some frames and lenses.
  7. Hahaha...guess I need to go back to the Optometrist Right you are...I was going to say it really made no sense.
  8. The one I quoted that had 17,371. My 3080 Ti got 17,826. Seems peculiar.
  9. What an interesting result. Clearly a good increase over Ampere in 8k, but lower 4k score than what my 3080 Ti got. Very interesting.
  10. Realistically though, its probably nickel plated copper unless you specifically got something from their aluminum lineup, which I've typically seen with more mid-range blocks as their "budget" option. In the case of this motherboard block though, guessing they got caught similar to how Gigabyte had issues with one of their Waterforce models last gen that was also nickel plated aluminum.
  11. Here's my 4k and 8k results. EDIT: 5900X with PBO on + 3080 Ti FE with +180 core / +1200 mem at 400W (114% power limit).
  12. I hear IE and I just think about how we were still on IE6 in 2011 at this one place I worked and were finally moving to IE8.
  13. 4090 is an absolutely amazing performer. Your combined workstation use makes this cost make more sense. As a gaming only card which I see many buy it for, I don't think I'll ever accept $1600+ as "reasonable". Anyway, I don't think this 3080 Ti will be as long lasting as I was hoping seeing how a lot of newer games are going with the RTX tech and VRAM. But will be interested to see what comes with the 50-series, if we see more of the same or if we see some more return to reason with a good product stack where you don't feel pigeonholed into only getting the top SKU or else sacrificing too much for the $$$ be it low VRAM or overall performance.
  14. Well I certainly am not buying $700+ motherboards. I already scoffed at the $440 I spent for this (or whatever it was). Motherboards have gotten stupid expensive these days too along with everything else, not surprised they are down in sales. Depends on supply. If they end up with a large supply of unsold motherboards and demand is low, then prices should drop. But given how things have gone with GPUs lately, its hard to say for sure that that's what will happen.
  15. Reminds me, I need to change my coolant. I've never done that before, but I've been learning to DIY everything else.
  16. Looked and can't find any pics of older rigs from prior to 2009/2010. Oh well. But had some early 2000's rig with some Athlon in it, initially with a Radeon 7500. Had a slighly updated one with a 9700 pro. My Dad had a P4 rig that we later put an X1650 Pro into. We had some other ones that I don't really remember what they had aside from some real crappy Nvidia FX-era mid-range or maybe even low end card. Didn't run much. Later built an E8500/9800 GT rig. And pretty sure there are more I am forgetting.
  17. Yeah so these first few I didn't really know how to properly size PSUs and way overbought. These earlier PCs were also the last time I actually tried at cable management. Since I started getting dual chamber cases like the Corsair 540 and now the O11-Dynamic, I just can't be arsed to do much more than basics. Also back then I didn't really know best practices for airflow and retrospect I would have set the intake/exhaust a little differently in the Switch 810 (looking at you bottom rad). Corsair 650D build. i7-960 and a 5770, later 2x 5770's and then a GTX 570. Initially had air cooling then tried an H100 and still wasn't satisfied: My first custom loop. CPU only loop in the 650D. Also upgraded to a GTX 670 (using a 680 PCB): From which I decided on a case change to the NZXT Switch 810 and adding the GPU to the loop: First real total new build that wasn't me upgrading onsie twosie things here and there. 4790k and 980 rig. First and last time I will ever use EK blocks, what a mess: Transferred the rig from the Corsair 540 to the O11-D because the material quality on the 540 wasn't great and the case was becoming a vibrating mess. Since it was just a transfer, this is why rads are too small. This was while I was starting to accumulate parts for current build.
  18. Fun fact, we went and saw a showing of They Live at a movie theater back in October. Was fun.
  19. Oh yeah, Zen 3 stuff is absolutely cheap at my local MC, I agree.
  20. Guess I will have to look at that more. I saw some of the X670 motherboard prices and they were already pretty ridiculous.
