  1. I'm old, when I think retro, I'm thinking of windows XP and before for PC and console wise, before N64 LOL I recently went full emulation due to hardware failings. I use PCEM to emulate an old PC. I used to have a retro PC on a wall that played games from the 90's to around 2006 or so. I do still have a Sega master system console that works.
  2. @damricout of curiosity, did that prove to work out? I tried a simple trick based on your idea that seems to work for me with SAM enabled... I first tested to see if the problem still existed, by folding under default settings with SAM enabled... and it did. Then I manually set the cpu slot to 8 threads... no crash... ok, then added another 8 thread slot... no crash... added a third... still no crash. I folded the last foldathon with 1 gpu slot and 3 cpu slots, no crash... I did have to turn it off due to heating up the room too much on occasion, but with it in auto, it wouldn't last 4 hours before a crash... At this moment I'm still testing, but so far no crash as long as I don't have a single cpu slot over 8 threads.
  3. finally broke down and purchased a proper USB hub to mount on my desk side, and a hopefully not fake flash drive to store my family videos/pics on to keep with me in case something bad happens. The hub has already arrived and works better than I expected for a cheap hub. I was using a USB extension cable hot glued to the side of the desk LOL, was a horrible solution, flash drives would just randomly disconnect... now they work properly.
  4. I'll keep that in mind if I have any issues, but for now I seem to have it sorted out. Looks interesting.
  5. I meant to reply to this earlier, I found that when folding on the 5950x, turning off the smart access memory keeps it from crashing... I do this a bios level.
  6. Ok, after a few days of testing the one annoying thing that seems to be related to the pro drivers is... sleep not working correctly... first the thing would instantly wake back up... then after I sorted that out, it would only sleep if commanded too by me... sleep timers would just hang... so I decided to go back to Adrenaline drivers to test them to be sure... so far it is working. The error I was getting was a service manager timeout error if anyone is interested. So far so good on the new Adrenaline install...
  7. been testing it out today, one thing that seems to work better is having multiple live TV channels playing at the same time with SichboPVR... before when recording on multiple channels while playing multiple streams it would get nearly unwatchable...now it's only occasional glitches... Will see how gaming works out after it cools off a bit.. hit near 90 today. Also will test out folding later...
  8. I recently had an issue with a beta driver from AMD that caused blue screen after blue screen... restart, blue screen... try to change sound output device, blue screen... try to change fan settings in Adrenaline, blue screen... Naturally I DDU'd the system to reinstall known good drivers... problem was I forgot to download them first... so I went online and just chose the auto detect tool... it suggested the Pro 23.Q3.1 drivers... since I mostly use this system for a media server/DVR with a side of gaming, I thought "what the heck" and let it install them... so far so good... Question is, What is your opinion of this? Good idea? or am I asking for a problem later... Hardware shortlist, in case it matters: ref 6900xt TUF GAMING B550-PLUS 5950X
  9. Love that area of NC... I used to go to Graveyard Fields near there to hike and escape the heat in the valley on hot days. Spent a many days at Looking Glass Falls too, well until it got to crowded by tourists anyway. Alas, I had to move out in the late 90's though... still wouldn't mind coming back though, but I'm a bit too settled in here now.
  10. got a recent free upgrade... forgot to post it... but they made some recent package upgrades around here and upped ours to the 500Mbps
  11. I suppose this isn't too bad considering it's quick dirty run and on my summer settings... lowered voltage and more limited power on both cpu and gpu... might try out my winter tune later on.
  12. My recent purchase was some thin wall telescoping aluminum tubing... sounds boring right? Background: Recently, as some of you may know, storms destroyed my old OTA antennas and bent my tower... I bought a temporary antenna, that ended up being permanent thanks partially to improvements in broadcast quality in my area, but mostly due to it works and I don't have a grand to invest at the moment. There was one snag... a big snag... One channel broadcasts on VHF now, VHF LO at that... very few decent sized antennas can receive VHF LO, but to make it worse, this channel is on channel 2 (54-60mhz)... Lovely... Yesterday, I solved my problem by making my own VHF LO dipole antenna and attaching it to the vhf hi dipole that came with the GE Pro. Since there are no vhf hi stations in my area I wasn't worried about interfering with vhf hi reception. Purchased tubing to perform mod: linky signal quality before the mod was 0% after the mod it is 91% GE antenna used: Linky For the record, The GE pro antenna in the pic is a lot better than I thought it would be for the price, on UHF anyway. I live 60 miles out from my UHF stations and I have great signal with this, not much less than I had on the tower even.... I was planning on going with the best of the best which would be either the channel master 4228HD or 91XG, but this thing really impressed me at the price and it is super easy to perform mods on.
  13. well shoot... I missed this one big time... last few hours here, but I'm going to jump in for a bit... temps down a bit outside so AC should be able to keep up.
  14. Sooo... apparantly I started collecting matches. It started out innocent enough, just trying to get a few old school matches that actually strike anywhere. Mostly nostalgia, but a bit of actual functional use built in too. I posted that I was looking for some old matches... and well... this happened. This isn't the whole collection, just the best looking. Some of these I bought, some were given to me... not complaining, I've learned a lot about the history of matches thanks this little experience... like how matches used to be highly poisonous and sometime back red phosphorus was used instead of white to make them safer. One of my favorite brands as a kid for starting camp fires was Fire Chief, mostly because of how easy it was to make them waterproof and not effect the ease of striking them. Still to this day, one particular make of the Fire Chief matches is the only one I can strike with my thumbnail (ignore my damaged nail, accident years ago). VID_20221227_195828424.mp4
  15. I'm a bit lax with mine... the important stuff, like family movies, are saved to the cloud and on a flash drive on my key chain as well as being on 3 different PC's in the house. The DVD rips, music and other replaceable stuff, I have on a 12TB drive in my main PC with a backup on my wifes HTPC. Most of my stuff is just recorded off air though, so no big loss.
  16. ok.. this is a bit sappy, but I want to thank all the folders on here, even those who only do it when it's convenient, you never know what work unit might be the one to make a breakthrough. My wife's had cancer (she's recovered fully) and she has had many other issues. My dad, uncle and some of my cousins have Alzheimer's. The research being done here is important to me. I have missed a lot of folding time this year due to a few calamities in my life (storm damage, medical insurance/doctor changes, medical issues, shift changes and more). I'm glad to be back and until it's too hot, I'll be folding off and on. It's heartwarming to see that while I was gone, there were so many continuing the efforts. Thanks to all.
  17. I'm riding the 5700x train here. Then I'd ride that system out till I had to upgrade because the next upgrade would require a whole new system since it's not likely a higher core 5000 series would benefit you much.
  18. I'm a rebel, I install mine..... horizontally ....
  19. thanks, lots been going on in my life lately. Health care changes, shift changes at work, and still waiting on the results of a biopsy on my wife.. Hopefully things will get back to some resemblance of normal soon.
