  1. I am trying to find timings that will work on Samsung B-die ram at 3600mhz.  I have managed to get a kit of 2x16 to play with, but my Ryzen Dram calculator is spitting out some weird numbers I know won't work... like 0 cas latency type numbers.  So what I want to know is, what works for you?  Thanks will be given to all answers, even if they don't work for me lol... thanks for reading

That is some fantastic craftsmanship there!  🤤

Where's the "shuttup and take my money" emoji at? :lachen:

Thanks, but to me it's far less impressive than the magic I see people here pulling off with their custom loops, case mods and such.  I suppose I could make them for people, but I don't feel the lighting is up to standards people would expect, it's just LED's on a piece of cardboard stuck in the tube... wiggle it wrong and they would fall over lol

  3. this has to be my most interesting part... doesn't do anything but light up.  I made the main part on my tube laser at work, some sanding and paint, then a little led magic, wire it into the PC's 12v add a diffuser to help the light look smoother and voila.... oh and the little mino guy on there was something I found on ebay.

  4. I installed my 5950x last night and went through a few benchmarks and played around with PBO and the FMAX enhancer.  Was pleasantly surprised at how much the PBO actually did.  The question I have is... Is it still considered a generally safe method to get a basic OC or should I just leave it off... Temps don't seem to be an issue only reaching into the 70's

I really like cases like that, ones that are small and cheap but still do a great job.

I started to write a review on that case... I was stunned at just how user friendly that little case was.  Best sub-$100 case I've used.

Looks like a sweet little machine. I love budget builds. Just something about squeezing every penny

Thanks : )  he came to pick it up today and was tickled with how it looked and how amazingly silent it was... his old one was a noisy little machine

  6. This was built as a gift for my 78 year old FIL with 2 things in mind... budget and be silent.   He is still using an old Phenom system I built for him years ago... not Phenom II, the original Phenom.... when I built it budget wasn't such an issue so we went for the best of the best AMD had to offer ( he's not an Intel fan )  Now I'm finishing up this budget build for him to replace his aged Phenom rig... total price 270 USD, thanks to a few sales and some Amazon points I had.  I tried to make it where he had lots of room to upgrade should it be needed, some things like SSD space and RAM wasn't really what I wanted to do, but it's better than what he has by far.

    Case: coolermaster masterbox Q300L

    Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H

    CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G

    RAM: Gskill Aegis 2400 8GB

PSU: Aresgame AGW600 geeze I hope this is ok, never used one before

    SSD: ADATA SU630 240GB

    OS: Windows 10 64bit

Nice ! I got my 5950X just under a year ago, and it does everything very well and in some things, 5950X is exceptional. What mobo are you using for it ?

ASUS TUF B550 and as one would expect, I'm re-using my custom loop cooler

    • Thanks 1
  8. well... since AM4 is pretty much EOL and I won't likely upgrade boards for a while, not to mention prices coming down.... I ordered a 5950x is what I'm trying to say.... I know, I know, I don't really need it... but I bet it will be a sweat upgrade from the 3900x and will pair better with the 6900xt.

  9. Short story time:

About 2 weeks ago Windows decided it was a great time to do an update... shortly after so did AMD...  Everything seemed fine, games still played nothing immediately noticed.  I worked, I played games, I watched tv... no issues... then last week I got nostalgic and started browsing my photos... opened 2 instances of windows default photo viewer... crashed... just disappeared, no warning, no error message, nothing.

Dug around a little and found an obscure error message in the event viewer... little googling later it suggested a c++ coding error... yeah right... tried resetting the app, tried a few other things I found on the interwebs... no good... finally thought to myself... why not try a DDU... then talked myself out of it... how could a driver problem cause a photo viewer to crash and nothing else.... guess what... today I did the DDU... reinstalled drivers... all is fixed....

Moral of the story, Never ever underestimate the power of a good DDU when it comes to AMD driver updates.  Hopefully if anyone else has photo viewer crashing problems, they will find this and it will fix their issue too.

Just put it to the back of your mind and let your brain file it to the bin 😛

he wanted you to ban him... I kinda want to get my account deleted lol... I keep getting spam mail from them... not that I see it often, but if I check my spam folder I see a lot of here's what happening on ocn type messages.

  11. at least you didn't bid on one on ebay at 2:30 in the morning like I did 🤣 Actually I don't regret it.... but did surprise me that no one outbid me on it.

I would wager almost everyone here also has a OCN login. Well except for ShawnB :sad_cry:

same... I've seen mostly people I already knew from OCN here... would seem this place has been a refuge for us looking to escape the new OCN.

  13. I just got back from town and all stores I went it were well supplied as well, so hopefully your store will have more soon.  That reminds me though, I need to order some of my coolant... I haven't flushed it in 3 years 😱... although from the see through ports all looks well... honestly, I can't believe this loop is still going, it's about a decade old and was used on my old FX 8350 and later the 9590 I tried to kill.

Hey guys. Long time overclock.net member (since 2012) and a bit of a lurker around here even though I set up my account quite some time ago.

Looking for that pre-V bulletin OCN vibe. OCN just doesn't feel the same.  Hoping here is more active. Hoping alot of the OCN old blood I still out here kicking.

wait... don't I know you from somewhere?!   I see you've escaped OCN as well.   Joking aside, I came here for the same reasons.  The quality of this site is miles ahead.  Welcome aboard!

Lol love the "throw every trick google has to offer and hope something sticks" approach to troubleshooting.

Glad it turned out to be a simple fix and not a dead card!

    Thanks 😄

I killed a mobo once. Did not screw the gpu and moved the power cable that was hitting the fan. Gpu moved in the slot and bam shutdown.

Last week i had an heart attack. Plug everything try to boot nothing happen pressing the power button.

Then i realised i forgot to plug the 24 pin 😆

I bent a pin in my old lga 2011 once too. No idea how i did it i just switched cpu and no boot. Then i unbent 4 pin and it worked like new 😆

Ahh and my last laptop. Instal new ssd on a brand new laptop run f@h on the new install. Come back 9h later laptop dead 😔

I had this fear that f@h would kill a pc of mine... I had pretty much got over it... now it's back lol...  It does make me feel better to know I'm not the only one who's had a panic attack, but genuinely sorry you lost that mobo... I lost once once to a power hungry FX processor, poor vrm's just couldn't handle it.

Haha I've been there... I'd buy a lot less stuff if ebay was unavailable from 10pm to 8am.

As for the taxes, it's better that than the alternative. When I got divorced I forgot to update my employer so I didn't have enough being taken out. Ended up owing a few grand at tax time.

Edit- I thought I was on the most recent page of the thread but just realized I replied to a comment from a couple weeks ago. Hopefully you have your card and it's treating you well 🙂

hey, old comments deserve replies too 😁  Glad I didn't end up owing, definitely would rather be surprised the good way... As for the card, other than a self induced panic attack, all is going well... loving the performance of this thing even though it isn't a good overclocker, it does it's job.  I you want to know what happened, the saga can be found here: clicky

Well, it is most certainly not funny if you indeed killed your card. Sorry, was not trying to imply that. It's just the way you wrote it.

oh, no, I didn't think you were laughing at me killing the card... I know you better than that, and I'm genuinely glad you got a laugh out of the story.  I was attempting to use humor to improve my mood about the situation... and I'm sure I'll  have a good laugh when it proves out that the cards ok... it seems to be good, no black screens as of yet and it's been nearly 24 hrs now... even played Forza 5 at 4k extreme preset earlier with no issues.

I can relate to the oh 💩 moments. I had one last night streaming HWbot with bastiaan when I ran 1.4v through the GTX 770 Classy and it had artifacts, went black and made the windows unplug sound.

I was laughing pretty hard while reading your thread. It's exactly how we think in the moment.

I'm glad you got a good laugh out of it, once I'm sure it's over and all's well I'll have a good laugh about it too.  For some reason this even shook my confidence so hard I'm still not sure it's fixed, but so far so good since re-seating the power cables... Holy crap though, I over reacted so bad... I couldn't hardly sleep at all that night even after I was pretty sure I found the problem... I assume your GTX 770 is still ok, as I recall those were pretty tough.  Anyway, sorry for the delay, I wanted to wait till I got home and could type on my PC, that phone I have is crap and hard to work with... need to trade up badly.

  19. This is a bit long and convoluted, but I'll try to keep it concise

You may have seen my post in the 1 million post thread showing my new light bar with "MINOTAUR" carved in it with a laser.  I started out with white LED's inside and swapped out to blues a couple days ago.

While swapping out the LED's the PC cut on to do it's DVR job... instead of cutting it off and sacrificing whatever show it was recording or waiting till later I thought "it's just a molex connector, I'll plug the lights in while it's running".   I fed the wires into the case, still through the side panel as I haven't had time to create the permanent wiring harness yet.... as I pulled the molex plug out to reach my wire, all monitors went black just after I made contact to the lights plug...

I thought "maybe there was a voltage ripple caused by plugging them in that triggered some protection in the GPU".... finished plugging in the wires and put the side panel back on... powered off, and restart... all screens came back... all's well... not

Yesterday I got up and began my usual morning routine... shortly after... monitors cut off... hmmm... restarted and all came back... now I'm worried... no time to play had to go to work.  After work, woke PC up from sleep... all seemed fine... watched some video and poof all screens off... sound from video still playing... UH OH... now I'm in pure panic mode... almost as bad as when I thought I blew my engine up in my truck... seriously, heart pounding OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩 full panic...

Proceeded to do what any person my position would do... Google... found some possible solutions... tried them all at once... full nuclear attack problem solution... now keep in mind I was panicked and wasn't thinking... normally I would never do that...

I DDU'd, I reinstalled drivers, I disabled hardware acceleration in my web browser and even stopped my wallpaper engine...  Rebooted, started to play a game... all screens off... OK, now I'm thinking, maybe my lights are faulty, I unplug the lights and hear a windows disconnect sound, yes I was dumb and panicked enough to do this BEFORE shutting off the PC again... SMH... but that did hint to me that there was in fact a wire issue here.... but also made me think I may have killed my GPU... I shutdown, full power off and....

Powered up the PC to a wonderful diagnostic alarm on the motherboard with no VGA indicated.  OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩 OH 💩

Now a bit of sanity has came back to me... I thought, well at least I still have my old 5700xt while I get this sorted... so my mind now clearing a bit, I think, ok if it is wiring, maybe there's a lose connection... I push on the 2 8pin connections on the GPU.. didn't really feel anything, but thought what the heck... tried for a reboot...

It worked, windows was now concerned about my PC's health and was offering their repair solution screen, I just went for full boot... I gamed, I played around in windows, no issues.... OK then... Shut down and powered off, pulled all wires out, blew them out with an air duster and re-seated the plugs...

I now have ran 2 complete stress tests on it and as of typing this all seems well...  I sure hope so.... guess what else I learned... my PC's side panel now drags across my GPU's 8 pin wires as it opens and closes... guess this one is wider than my old 5700xt... I'd be lying if I said I'm not still scared though.

Thanks for reading, I hope this is over, it seems to be... here's a link to my stress test pass
