I said it in another thread but the other forums wish they were us. This is the end all be all best group of modders and overclockers and PC nuts on the web today. I'm just happy we have such a nice well curated site to congregate on. We truly are lucky in 2024 to have EHW available to us.

EHW is lucky to have the crowd that it does 🙂

Explains why so many of us, generally speaking, avoid EK. I just didn't expect it to be THIS bad. Too many horror stories that are likely driven by the systemic issues within the company. Whether its products failing, customer service, high costs compared to comparable alternatives, and their overall marketing strategy. Appealing to the (larger) market focused on RGB, shiny stuff vs. highly performant equipment.

Thanks for sharing the follow up link from GN. I'm about 50% through that video. Super interesting content, could be a A&E special.

    Next time on Slovenian Greed

Yeah, well I know I will be steering away from EK, not just from a concern on quality, but I cannot support a business that has a culture of treating people the way they have.  The same goes moving forward for any of our prizing and reviews, we will no longer be making contact with EK for either, unless they have seriously mended their ways and even then I am still unsure about it.

I found 3 of them still in existence at THW, but only 1 is still relevant. That one has lost all of the embedded images, so I will need to redo the whole thing really. But it's a good one about breadboarding so definitely going to give it to EHW.

    Nice! Pm'ed.

    Dear Ladies and Gents!

Hope your having a good start in the week. 🙂

I was hoping to find here any recomandation for UBUNTU stress test and stability testing (CPU/GPU/RAM - best all togehter...).... Please share your recomendation, experience, thoughts.

So far i just found the following:

1, Prime 95 CPU and DIMMS

    2, Furemark for GPU

3, Passmark BurnInTest - is it worth the money?

    Any other options?

    Thank you very much!

GSAT is great at stressing RAM and picking up possible errors.

RAM With Google Stressful Application Test (GSAT)

For Linux users, the Google Stressful Application Test (GSAT) is an excellent tool for diagnosing memory errors. Alternatively, you can run GSAT in Windows using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). However, it doesn't have the same effect, which is why we so we recommend using GSAT in its native environment.

    Google Stressful Application Test

    1. Open a terminal and use the following command to download and install GSAT: sudo apt-get install stressapptest

    2. Once installed, put GSAT into motion with this command: stressapptest -W -s 3600.

The -W argument asks GSAT to utilize a more stressful memory copy for the processor. Meanwhile, the -s argument refers to the number of seconds to run the tool. Unlike other software based on passes or cycles, GSAT runs according to your specified time. On the norm, one to two hours are more than adequate to assess whether you have a bad DIMM

    This is a great idea!

I wrote a fairly extensive Aquaero & Aquasuite Software Setup Guide over at OCN.  It's a little dated now since that was like five years ago.  It still gets regular traffic though.

It was WAY more work than I thought it would be when I first started putting it together!  I might consider updating that content if there is interest, however I realistically would not have time to do it in the next six months or so.

    Nice!

Well if you and @damricwant to port over any of your prior written guides, that is great. When you guys are ready, let me know and I will give you access to the Drafts for our FAQ write ups 🙂

oof. about 10-12 years ago I wrote quite a few of tutorials for tomshardware. Then the site got purchased again and they went into the dumpster. I'll see if I can dig them up. If they still exist, I'll reword and update them. There were quite a few good ones for generic troubleshooting.

    Well played good sir 🙂

  7. Hello all,

I just wanted to take a moment to Thank You All for the work you have put into the community, whether this be from a staff or user level. Without your help and continued dedication to the site, we would not be where we are now. We still have some growing to do, no doubt, but I personally enjoy coming on here daily and checking to see what's new, or just following continued discussions. Discussion forums have a hard time of it these days with the growth of social media services but it is my firm opinion that forums/sites are still THE staple of quality information on the internet.

We have an excellent group of people here and I feel sometimes I do not thank you all enough and I wanted to assure you that all your efforts on a daily basis is noticed. I am proud of all that you have accomplished here on ExtremeHW and I am certainly looking forward to seeing what the future brings for both our forums and our reviews. As always, spread the word, bring your family and friends here, don't be selfish and keep it all to yourselves 😛

I also wanted to throw out an additional thank you to all those who have purchased a premium account, donate to the site and purchase from our merch store. This really helps us with the costs of running the platform, paying for private dev work as well as purchasing any add-ons that enhance the users experience. Thank you!

    All the best,

    E

    Hey @ENTERPRISE

Any chance we could get t shirts with the design I made that you're using on the desk mats? The site logo, with icons underneath that have a gradient. On a white shirt.

I'd buy one of these if they were available.

I will keep this in mind when Im next looking into the store for the hoodies 🙂

  9. All I will say is that they launched the product at a time where economically speaking, people are in a worse position financially, at least here in the UK. Granted I consider this product a Halo product based on the price and this was already priced out of reach from most BUT financially we are worse off and I would not be surprised if that was another factor.

Plus I still find Apple a more and more niche market as the years go on. With Apple overall not having the same appeal as they used to, some of the customers they once had that would have jumped on this, have since moved on. So in my opinion they have a smaller market to capitalize on.

    Just my view on it.

As far as I know, these TVs aren't "always-on" like Battle.net or cloud apps, so I would imagine that it should be fine.

Personally, I'd avoid Roku at all costs because of that patent for showing ads while no motion is detected on screen. They may not have implemented it yet, and they may not be able to implement it if you don't give them access to push OTA updates, but I wouldn't be surprised if the code is already in their firmware. I have infinitely less trust in Roku than I do with Asus motherboards and their damn Armoury Crate default-on switch in the BIOS. As much as I've griped about my motherboard, I don't think Asus intentionally disrespects their users like Roku does.

The TCL Q7 that Rtings rated well in my link appears to have Google TV for its OS instead of Roku TV, so it seems that Roku has nothing to do with that model or any current TCL TVs anymore.

Beyond data privacy, I'm not convinced of the build quality, QC, or sales support of the Chinese TV brands. From what I've read, Hisense build quality is awful. I haven't read about the same issues with TCL, but they're not established like legacy brands in the space.

As far as a retail experience, I'd also consider shopping at Costco and leveraging their 90-day return policy by playing panel lottery if necessary. I get the sense that shopping for budget TVs isn't too dissimilar from shopping for ultrawide monitors. QC seems severely lacking in either segment.

For budget reasons I have purchased with a couple of family members TCL units, I cannot recall the model numbers but for the price I was very impressed with the build quality, I/O and the OS layout and functionality (Google). For that reason I purchased a new TV yesterday to replace a dying one I have had to put up with for a while. Going from prior experience and the positive reviews, I picked up the TCL C805 50"  for £569.

After using the TCL units, I quickly had to ask what the bugger names offered, such as Samsung and Sony, and frankly they offered nothing above and beyond from the TCL units and the TCL units are kinder on the wallet.

  11. Well when people get annoyed/bored enough at Discords ways, we can always move to onsite chat, fortunately there is already a well put together solution for this platform :

    IPSAPPZONE.COM

Coded with ♥ Chatbox+ is an application that uses Ajax calls to the server to get new messages. Supports room chat, club chat and the private one-2-one chat. The chat boxes can display in widget, new...

Corsair is quickly taking over the entry-level WC business, and I feel like the higher-end stuff is becoming less niche with a select few companies establishing themselves more and more in that space. Those that already go with Watercool, Optimum, etc., the 'bougie' stuff, wouldn't likely go back in a hurry to EK. And the entry-level anything business is always super competitive and has even less brand loyalty.

EK has been losing customers from both, and if this is how they handle things internally - I don't see them ever correcting either path. They have long been charging premium prices for mid-range products, and while we all hoped they'd right their ways... I don't think it's going to happen.

Definitely. There are other companies out there that have been around for a good long time, generally speaking not the same large product range but a competitor to EK all the same.

Fortunately we have a decent selection of companies to choose from even if EK went the way of the dodo. I have thus far not really had many quality issues with EK but hear about the downhill quality problems from others. My only issue was with a recent CPU Block purchase whereby the nickel plating had left blockages on the cold plate. It eas easily rectified...but that is not the point.

I have not owned a single Corsair WC product so cannot comment on how good they are but so far as their product range, they have come on leaps and bounds.

As usual, great investigative work by GN. I personally do not bare any issues with EK, however the situation between them, their employees and suppliers is a complete mess based on this report. Not a good situation at all, fingers crossed the employees get what they are owed as soon as possible... without hours shaved.

Sega Chihiro: An officially-licensed arcade cabinet powered by the Xbox’s motherboard. Here’s what you need to know:

    1. What Is Sega Chihiro?

      • Chihiro, also known as Sega Chihiro, is an arcade system board developed and used by Sega for high-end arcade releases in the early-to-mid 2000s.
      • It was originally released in 2002 alongside The House of the Dead III.
      • Chihiro is a successor to the NAOMI series of boards and is based on Microsoft’s Xbox console.
      • It’s Sega’s last arcade board to be based on a particular console, with each successor (starting with Lindbergh) based on traditional PC architecture.
      • The hardware specs include:
        • CPU: Intel Pentium III model running at 733 MHz.
        • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 3 series variant.
        • RAM: 128 MB of DDR-200 RAM for shared memory (double the RAM used for the standard Xbox).
        • Storage: It uses GD-ROM discs (similar to NAOMI and Triforce hardware), which are copied to RAM before the game starts to prevent loading times. Some games were also distributed on Compact Flash cards or CD/DVD-ROM discs.
    2. Games and Legacy:

      • Chihiro powered several popular arcade games, including OutRun 2, Virtua Cop 3, and House of the Dead III.
      • Unfortunately, Virtua Cop 3 never received an official port, but if you upgrade your Xbox’s RAM, you can play it unofficially.
    3. Emulation and Scene:

      • While the original Xbox has been extensively explored, emulating Chihiro remains challenging.
      • The Xbox is still considered one of the worst consoles for emulation, especially beyond the 32X and System 32 arcade board.
    4. Fun Fact:

      • The Sega Chihiro arcade cabinet is a unique blend of console and arcade gaming history, bridging the gap between home entertainment and public arcades.

Remember, this fascinating collaboration between Sega and Xbox brought us some memorable gaming experiences! 🕹️🌟

The OG Xbox is basically just a Sega designed arcade board with less ram. It is possible to upgrade the ram on an OG Xbox, and that basically gives it the same functionality as a Sega Chihiro. Moder Vintage Gamer has covered this. The OG Xbox is basically a successor to the Dreamcast, developed by Sega.

That was a really interesting video. I knew there was a business relationship between Sega and Microsoft but didn't really consider the deeper relationship with respect to the hardware level. I would say that MS definitely built upon the Dreamcast foundations for the XBOX.

Ever wanted to see an original Xbox run Halo 2 at HD resolutions — or at least a non-distorted widescreen image at 480p? Hardware and game modder Ryan Miceli, aka grimdoomer on GitHub, has made the dream of Halo 2 in HD on Xbox a reality, though you'll need to make some modifications. Miceli has listed the project on GitHub and described it in depth on his blog.

I love these sort of tweaks, just taking something and improving it...just because you can. Especially something like this where its more challenging to get the performance uplift. Makes me want to get an Xbox again just to nerd out lol.
