  1. I have never thought to update a monitor firmware. I will have to learn how to do it. I have a Dell SE2717 that is freesync. 48-75hz I think. But I managed to OC the monitor and increase the range to 45-81hz. Think a firmware update might improve that?
  2. I occasionally drop one of my HDD's as well. But that is only with this drive connected. Otherwise all works fine. If I just use my other 4 sata drives everything is peachy. I put the SSD in question into an external enclosure and it picks it up just fine. But I can't boot off of it. (I have dual boot windows 10 so when I stress test and bench OC's I don't bugger up my main OS with one too many BSOD's)
  3. Interesting. I wonder what this bodes for the future? Another CPU name in the game isn't a bad thing. Could this be a push by nvidia to get into the cpu space? What might they have planned next? I don't imagine Intel would allow them to license X86. And neither do I imagine AMD allowing them to licence X86-64. So if this is a pre-courser to a larger push into the cpu space I imagine they would stick with ARM. Could that mean that this is a foreshadowing of the end of X86? Because eventually surely ARM will catch up to x86 at some point?
  4. Also. Is there a way I can try increasing BCLK through software? Ryzen Master doesnt seem to have the option. The slider is there but greyed out in EasyTuner. Because if I can't boot at 101 I want to at least see what difficulties if any at all I might have by setting 101 once I am logged in.
  5. Just a quick one guys. I have been running my 3800X with PBO using the EDC bug for a while now with a 101Mhz bclk. Nothing too wild. But that extra MHz meant that I was getting almost an additional 50MHz at single core boost speeds. That meant a single core boost of 4696.5MHz. Which I know wont differ much from 4650Mhz but you know how it is.... bigger number is better number. Even if it only makes you FEEL better. Anyway I added another sata drive to my rig recently. So now I am at 5 SATA drives + 1nvme total. A 128GB SSD that I migrated all of my "user" folders to. And my rig wont see the drive at 101MHz. Surely 101Mhz should be within margin of tolerance? I don't expect to run 105MHz BCLK nor do I want to as I imagine I might run into serious stability concerns at all core boost frequencies. But surely I can run my standard 101MHz without my SATA devices dropping out?
  6. I think I got warned for calling people morons or stupid as well. I think it was back in the OCN migration thread which was a DUMPSTER fire initially after the VerticalScope acquisition.
  7. I just scored 13304 R23 at stock settings on my 3800X with my 3600 18-20-20-44 XMP enabled. I haven't done the drivers yet. But I am on a fully updated fresh (installed yesterday) win10 so I am pretty sure I am on the windows SATA/chipset drivers. For just a home user who uses his pc for gaming and just general use can said windows security updates be rolled back?
  8. Recently I saw that AMD released some updated chipset drivers. And I avoided early AMD x570 chipset drivers for a while as I had some strange issues with them. Sata storage drives dropping and coming back online completely empty etc. I have seen AMD has updated their chipset drivers recently and I am now wondering they are these days vs the stock windows SATA drivers etc? Performance wise stability wise etc?
  9. How many of us are exOCNers? Just wondering because there were a fair lot of us before the V-Bulletin migration and the sell-off of OCN.
  10. Shills? Like? Also how many members do we have here? Something I'm curious to know. Are we growing?
  11. In this case it isnt helping us redo the bathroom.
  12. My wife and I recently got married. And she is like. "Stop posting on those stupid forums and rather start like a computer blog or something we can make some money off of. Because you giving out all this free tech support on the internet isn't helping us"
  13. Well I haven't looked too deeply yet. But like I know alot of us aren't running cutting edge hardware because scalping etc. So starting some owners clubs for those of us running older but still capable cpus and gpus won't go a miss me thinks. Like zen 2 owners club (assuming we haven't got one) a pascal and Vega owners club? I just wouldn't have the time with work and commitments to admin these groups sigh.
  14. All time favourite processor. That has to be any of the Vishera based AMD FX 8 cores. I loved Vishera for its infamy. It received a lot of hate. A lot of it undeserved, simply because its reputation was already tarnished thanks to its older brother Zambezi. I found its price to performance to be fantastic. I managed to get into the FX platform fairly cheaply as I already had a 990FX board available from a previous build so my entry into AM3+ was just a CPU. Stock like all FX's it was terrible. But once you figured out how to overclock it, man it was amazing. A good core clock combined with a good memory and CPU-NB overclock really turned that chip into something good. 800+ CBR15 was pretty dang good back in the day. It was always such a pleasure when people asked about GHOST at LAN's and events and how their eyebrows raised when they heard what processor was running. It was a guilty pleasure of mine seeing their reaction. And its also the processor that is responsible for my journey into water cooling and also case modding. I bought a nice Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro specifically for this CPU, because the Hyper 212 I scavenged from GHOST's predecessor was just inadequate. But that Water 2.0 had a dead pump on arrival. So I just went bugger it. Just go full custom. And I went down the rabbit hole from there. I then started to think of more elaborate ways to push the overclocks. More and more elaborate ways to to prevent my midish-range M5A99FX motherboard from turning into a molten pool of slag once the overclocks went beyond what a 6phase board at the time should of been capable of doing. 4.8, 4.9, 4.95, eventually I got to 5.1GHz on my FX in its last few months with a delid and direct die cooling with liquid metal as my TIM. That CPU lasted for so long. 2013 until 2020. What a bargain in my opinion. I would actually STILL be running it now to this day if I hadnt of broken off (not bent) some pins after I dropped it during some loop maintenance. Since I was getting such good life out of it I had planned to keep that system going until the dawn of DDR5. It had no issues pushing a pair of R9-Fury X's in crossfire. So when the life support for Multi-GPU was finally pulled and I switched to my now V64 it had no issues pushing that either. And to be honest I miss that CPU. I find my Ryzen boring by comparison. I don't get the same thrill and excitement trying to push a few MHz above what Precision boost can do. What a thrill it was getting 25-30% more performance out of a CPU. Now with my Ryzen the best I can pump out of it is MAYBE 5%. I used to run 4.95GHz 1.48V with 2700CPU-NB on 2000Mhz DRAM at 9-10-9-27 1T. I delidded the processor got I used set of MFR based Corsair Dom Plat 2666's and pushed 5.1 at a little over 2133 cas 9 on 4 sticks of ram. The IMC only ever managed 2400 on 2 sticks. But that was still plenty fast back then. 50ms latency makes my Ryzen seem slow. Best I have managed on these C-dies with 1800fclk/3600 is 70ns. Then the my next favorite processor is what started my overclocking journey in the first place. Much like the FX it kinda was an underdog to begin with. A Conroe core Intel E2180. 1.86GHz of dual core fury. Which I managed to get to 2.7GHz on some weird ASRock hybrid DDR/DDR2 and AGP/PCIE mix board with the stock cooler. I had no idea what I was doing. I was on the stock cooler. I just pushed bclk. I had no idea back then that the DRAM and FSB were all linked back in those days. So when I reached that 2.7GHz was it because the CPU was falling on its face. Or just my off brand DDR2 667 Sticks had reached their limit. I guess I will never know. But I do have an E2200 that I have knocking around in the garage somewhere that I really want to test out and see what I can do with it. But I don't have a good motherboard for it. Then finally my last two favourite processors both tied for third I guess. My Athlon2 640 quad core. My first ever quad core. Got it to 3.9GHz. That was fun. And my Phenom 2 965C3. 4.2GHz. 4 blazing fast cores that were arguably the exact same cores in my athlon. But that L3 made a difference to the performance. My most hated CPU of all time. I had an Intel Wolfdale E7500. I dont know if I got a lemon. Or if my board was rubbish or what. But after reading reviews and seeing people pushing through 4GHz on Wolfdale I couldn't wait to try my hands at it. Best I managed was 3.6 and I really felt let down. Suffice to say it didn't last long.
  15. Definitely going to join the water cooling club that is for sure. Maybe mech keyboard club. But my Roccat is pretty boring compared to some of the self-boards you guys have made yourselves.
  16. It was rather iconic wasn't it? Wait... still is.
  17. well heck that is awesome! This thread has gotten more answers in the space of a few hours than three separate threads I am following on OCN. Damn! Its good to be home! I think it was Cssorkinman or someone from the Vishera owners club on OCN. Can't remember who it was but instantly this thread feels more alive than the entirety of "The place that must not be named". Although in all fairness. The recent platform migration for that place is miles ahead of V-Bulletin. But due to the Great Exodus, it still hasn't regained its soul. It still feels a bit soulless and dead. Damn it is good to be home. Oh I remember. I seem to remember helping with overclocking on the Vishera Owners Club. At least I think it was that. Yeah I just been looking for a lively forum to talk computer things with but it just takes a while it seems for things to happen on The Other Place. Seems that way, talking of official owners clubs etc do we have a similar thing here? It has taken a while. But alas I think its time to jump ship. It just doesn't feel the same there.
  18. I am annoyed that AMD is leaving Vega and Polaris owners in the dark on RSR. Like I figured we would get it by default since it is "powered" by FSR1.0 and FSR1.0 is supported on Vega and Polaris.
  19. Hey guys. Long time overclock.net member (since 2012) and a bit of a lurker around here even though I set up my account quite some time ago. Looking for that pre-V bulletin OCN vibe. OCN just doesn't feel the same. Hoping here is more active. Hoping alot of the OCN old blood I still out here kicking.
