  1. Yes they could do both, even at the same time. Phase out the default machine and split the SKU into Slim & Pro. Pro keeps the disk drive, Slim replaces the digital only console (diskless) to keep size and costs down. RE: Price, I think that is region exclusive. In Canada, both PS5 and Xbox Series X went up in price.
  2. It seems rather likely at this stage considering the amount of rumours that something is coming. I do agree with you, I have a difficult time understanding what can the new system bring over PS5 from AMD's existing lineup today. Their RT performance, and improvement from RDNA 2 to 3, isn't great. Their frame generation implementation, FSR 3, was supposed to be out already. I assume they would still want to launch it on PC first but it would make sense if it releases with PS5 Pro too. That would back up "8K performance mode". I'm just thinking from a consumer perspective: What value will I receive by spending (X) on a Pro console next year? How will they market it? Better RT and frame gen? Doesn't sound all that appealing knowing RT likely won't be all that good. They already advertised the PS5 as 4K 120 / 8K 60. Barely any games are pushing the hardware now. I think a PS5 slim would be better for the consumer if there is a price reduction... but I think that is less feasible than Sony trying to market a Pro to be objective.
  3. Pikmin 4 I’ve tried to make my character look like a young “E. Gadd” for those who’ve played Luigi’s Mansion. The game is wholesome, charming, and simply really nice to unwind with. There is a demo on the eshop… but the demo is simply the game intro and it’s tedious. Once you get past the first few days, the game opens up and stretches. The good news is that your save data transfers over. So if you play through the demo, you don’t have to do it again.
  4. Greenmangaming (GMG) Summer Sale. Ends August 5th Summer Sale 2023 | Video Game Deals | Green Man Gaming WWW.GREENMANGAMING.COM Thousands of games at low prices with exclusive discounts all in one place. Grab your next game deal in the Green Man Gaming Summer Sale 2023. I use GMG a lot as an alternative when buying a new game on Steam since they usually have a 15% discount. They have a sale going on for the next 2 weeks. There are some decent deals if you're into Square Enix titles like Final Fantasy and if you have purchased from them before in the past few months, you get "XP" which nets you more discounts. Quick screenshot below (prices in maple syrup dollars).
  5. Almost reminds me when I bought my 660 Ti. They were 192-bit cards. They had the 2gb model ($299) and 3gb model ($350?). The 2gb model had an asymmetrical memory layout to get 2GB on 192 bit. The 3gb model wasn't asymmetrical IIRC. Both cards had 16x3.0 lanes. Upsell was the 670 at $399. Feels like Nvidia is following that same philosophy but just cracking down even further. Larger price gaps ($100), less lanes (8 lanes), same crappy bus (192-bit) to be more power efficient (really just cost savings). If the model has been working for 10 years and they have 70% market share in the consumer market... they do not care. Next generation they will want to entice Ampere owners to upgrade so I imagine they will put in a bit more effort than Ada in terms of marketing / pricing but still... very bleak.
  6. I don’t think you realize you’ve just started WWIII… Now I’m just waiting for an Italian to post a POV of eating a red sauce pasta (e.g., amatriciana) in a classic American car with an all white interior.
  7. Bulgogi short ribs with fried rice and tagorashi mayo. A friend of ours is a chef and gave us the insights into the recipe from a dish we call “short ribs with crack rice”. We didn’t have the methodology for the crack rice but we got fairly close. Just didn’t get the colour and texture I wanted. Ribs slapped. First time making mayo from scratch, surprisingly easy. A lot of prep but once you’re ready to go it cooks pretty quickly. Finish with short ribs on the grill with spring onion.
  8. Remnant 2 Review - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Where Remnant: From The Ashes was a strong first draft, Remnant 2 is a revolutionary sequel and a sterling manifesto for the looter-shooter soulslike. Remnant series is for lack of a better description, is a souls-like, cooperative, third person shooter. IGN just gave it a 9. Something to watch out for if you have a couple buddies looking for a game to play together. The games are built from the ground up with co-op in mind.
  9. Made a quick edit to the list above as I forgot to add "Sea of Stars". Which is a turn-based RPG, similar to Chrono Trigger. Also did another pass on the list, going back and fixing up some details. Should be in pretty good shape now. The post (above) highlights all the releases basically up until end of September. I am sure I've missed some but... there should be something there for everyone Also, Pikmin 4 is out tomorrow (Nintendo Switch only) Coming out strong with an 88 on metacritic right now.

  11. Ah yea, the prime sale ^ I posted a few weeks back that I got some new tom heads (Remo Emperor) but I was waiting on the 8”. It arrived a couple days ago but I also ordered from Prime these new type of moon gel from Evans. I tried it on my snare last night but I felt it killed too much of the sound. Replaced it back to the old moon gel. Heres the kit with all the heads now installed and tuned.
  12. I swear I learned my lesson from past Bethesda launches but… the I couldn’t resist on the controller. *Todd stares menacingly from the distance*
  13. Thank you for sharing those experiences with others here. I don't pretend to understand the physical and mental pain. Not sure if excuses but I hope any of what I have said helps you find what you need to satisfy your self and make you happy. Whether it's interpersonal, soft, hard, those are all different groups of skills and no one will be perfect at them all. However, if you focus on all of these topics at once and the negatives, you will likely feel overwhelmed. I encourage you to break it down what you're trying to achieve into bite sized pieces. Start with a vison, and work your way down into goals, objectives, and tasks. Focus less on what you're not good at and more on what you are good at. If you know the help desk wont suite you due to interpersonal skills or physical injuries, try to find something that works with your positives and what you know you're good at. No one is going to check all the boxes in an interview and every place may value some skills over others. I still encourage you to go after a certificate or any training. That will help get you into the routine towards learning skills.
  14. It (certificate) may not be enough to simply get you the job but I would consider it a very important first step to make a change. Maybe consider the ones The Pook mentioned tooz IT in general has been in high(er) demand since the pandemic. Finding resources to accelerate knowledge demonstrates initiative and a desire to learn. What grinds my gears OP is that you mentioned you don’t believe you don’t have the skills they’re looking for. A lot of people can pick up technical skills but don’t forget that interpersonal and soft skills can be much more important to differentiate yourself and for your growth. I will give you a few examples from my own experience to illustrate what I am taking about. Furthermore, I will also echo Enterprise’s comments. Field experience stands out for a reason, because for a lack of better words, it shows that you know or can demonstrate yourself in real world scenarios. I landed my first interview for a architectural technologist (internship) at a “prestigious” (gagging on how pretentious that sounds) Architectural studio thanks to a connection from my university. My portfolio was garbage at the time, but I am usually more confident in person. I can tell you right now, I definitely did not have all the skills they listed in the role. During the interview, the senior Architect (hiring partner) picked apart one of my portfolio projects and asked me to explain how this building component, which was a balcony, would handle drainage (water). Just to determine if I can talk the talk, so to speak. I probably shat my self but then I focused, and told him what I knew from my limited experience working in construction. It was on the lines of “You could slope the concrete surface (~2%) away from the facade or into a drain but the drain may be more expensive”. He seemed very surprised but it seemed to have worked. Maybe because my portfolio was so * he didn’t expect me to be able to communicate a half reasonable solution. But hey, soft skills with a mix of technical and BS worked. We talked a bit more and he asked what kind of projects I would like to work on. A few days later… I landed the job and it was an insane experience. Pay was through an internship / government subsidy program. Of course I didn’t apply in time but it was such a good way to start my career and get some hands on experience. Good for telling stories too… Not to mention the name of the place on my resume helped opened a lot of doors. But objectively speaking, interning for experience is not the only way. It was just the way I preferred at the time because a) I was younger, b) I do better in person c) I prefer hands on. That was my approach to get in without “the skills”. I had the opportunity to stay on, not be an intern and earn a regular salary but I decided to part ways for other reasons. Anyway - there is no standard, one stop shop way of landing a job. But there is usually a common thread and that’s the initiative and drive that comes from within. I’m under a NDA so I can’t delve too much into my current role but I transitioned out of my field of work (Architecture) into the games industry a few years ago. I leveraged what skills I had plus put a lot of time and effort into a completely unrelated side project / portfolio piece. No one told me that this portfolio piece would land me the job but I was confident that it would be a good starting point to get my foot in the door. Even my girlfriend at time was very skeptical why I was spending 5-10hrs a week after work into a modelling project that no one requested. Then when an opportunity arose (protip: set up alerts on Linkedin) at one of the game studios I was interested in and I was just relentless in follow ups, emailing the HR recruiter, messaging the HR director on Linkedin, until I got an interview. Again, I didn’t have all the skills they were looking for on paper, by a wide margin. Since getting my foot in the door and landing the job, I’ve got a whole bunch of experience on a wide variety of projects and with a lot of different teams. Technically speaking I have supported teams directly and indirectly that have shipped two AAA games. I havent really stopped either. I was doing continuing education at a local university during the height of the pandemic (full remote) when things slowed down. I was also promoted somewhat recently and now I work with my original core team and IT directly and I don’t have any formal IT experience or education. Sounds a bit crazy but… the opportunity came up internally and I jumped at it. My only “IT” experience is my personal PC building and spending time on forums like this I personally love going into my job now and seeing all things that happen behind the scenes in game development. So my point is, if there is something that your passionate about or a career path you’re genuinely interested in, find a way and don’t give up Obviously I won’t understand the pain you go through but I sincerely hope the surgery helps mitigate or avoid the pain. Just remember that skills can learned a long the way. Don’t let yourself hold you back. I know, cheesey AF. Hope this motivates you in some capacity to keep moving towards your goals
  15. I agree that we can be critical of their stack but no reviewer is perfect and many games still released in 2023 are based on older tech that were designed with the PS4 / Xbox One. Even if they are not released on those platforms. If I look at some of the most popular and highest rated games for the past few years... GoW, Final Fantasy, Horizon, Resident Evil, Star Wars, Street fighter, Diablo, they're games designed with last gen in mind. Regardless of GN's game suite... I don't see how the 5800X will pull ahead over time. Cache helps mitigate a lot of constraints on PC (slower system memory and latency). CP2077 is a fair example of a modern game that can leverage more cores (see delta between 16, 12, 8 core Zen 3 parts) and well, the 6 core die with more cache sits on top. If newer games are released and require a baseline of more cores, maybe we will see a balancing act but I don't imagine that will be the case anytime soon.
  16. Nice! Glad you're enjoying it. I'm waiting for a sale now but very eager to get into it. RE: Budgets -> many AAA games have budgets in that range. Probably quite a bit higher on average today. You also have to consider marketing, which is probably separate from the production budget. I could only imagine what Rockstar is throwing at GTA VI. Probably just shy of a billion.
  17. There is a Gamers' Nexus video on the topic that provides more context. TL;DR Very limited quantities. AMD is just selling any remaining dies that could not be sold as a 5800X3D exclusively at Micro Center.
  18. Diablo IV!? Ah - It does not say free game*
  19. A friendly reminder that the Summer sale is on now!
  20. Exactly! We should all erase that game from our minds. There was a report that came out after launch from Jason Schreier, linked below, that goes into detail of what really happened behind the scenes. The article is paywalled but you can read more about it here on Gamesindustry. 21. The Starfield post Still catching up on all the announcements but today I just watched the Starfield videos. Wow! I am very (cautiously) optimistic! There is a lot of marketing and hype laced into the Deep Dive but I highly recommend watching that video. It's about 45mns long but gives a lot of good insights into the type of game this will be. I almost laughed out loud when I saw that they're basically reviving the adoring fan from Oblivion. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are some of my all time favourite games. Bethesda used to wow me but I fell off the wagon with Skyrim and didn't play much of Fallout 4. I hope this game launches well but I've learned my lesson. I will wait patiently for reviews, both critics and users before touching it. If it launches in a good state, who knows, this could be one of the best games of the year
