Ah yea, the prime sale ^ I posted a few weeks back that I got some new tom heads (Remo Emperor) but I was waiting on the 8”. It arrived a couple days ago but I also ordered from Prime these new type of moon gel from Evans. I tried it on my snare last night but I felt it killed too much of the sound. Replaced it back to the old moon gel. Heres the kit with all the heads now installed and tuned.

I swear I learned my lesson from past Bethesda launches but… the I couldn’t resist on the controller. *Todd stares menacingly from the distance*

Thank you for sharing those experiences with others here. I don't pretend to understand the physical and mental pain. Not sure if excuses but I hope any of what I have said helps you find what you need to satisfy your self and make you happy. Whether it's interpersonal, soft, hard, those are all different groups of skills and no one will be perfect at them all. However, if you focus on all of these topics at once and the negatives, you will likely feel overwhelmed. I encourage you to break it down what you're trying to achieve into bite sized pieces. Start with a vison, and work your way down into goals, objectives, and tasks. Focus less on what you're not good at and more on what you are good at. If you know the help desk wont suite you due to interpersonal skills or physical injuries, try to find something that works with your positives and what you know you're good at. No one is going to check all the boxes in an interview and every place may value some skills over others. I still encourage you to go after a certificate or any training. That will help get you into the routine towards learning skills.

It (certificate) may not be enough to simply get you the job but I would consider it a very important first step to make a change. Maybe consider the ones The Pook mentioned tooz IT in general has been in high(er) demand since the pandemic. Finding resources to accelerate knowledge demonstrates initiative and a desire to learn. What grinds my gears OP is that you mentioned you don’t believe you don’t have the skills they’re looking for. A lot of people can pick up technical skills but don’t forget that interpersonal and soft skills can be much more important to differentiate yourself and for your growth. I will give you a few examples from my own experience to illustrate what I am taking about. Furthermore, I will also echo Enterprise’s comments. Field experience stands out for a reason, because for a lack of better words, it shows that you know or can demonstrate yourself in real world scenarios. I landed my first interview for a architectural technologist (internship) at a “prestigious” (gagging on how pretentious that sounds) Architectural studio thanks to a connection from my university. My portfolio was garbage at the time, but I am usually more confident in person. I can tell you right now, I definitely did not have all the skills they listed in the role. During the interview, the senior Architect (hiring partner) picked apart one of my portfolio projects and asked me to explain how this building component, which was a balcony, would handle drainage (water). Just to determine if I can talk the talk, so to speak. I probably shat my self but then I focused, and told him what I knew from my limited experience working in construction. It was on the lines of “You could slope the concrete surface (~2%) away from the facade or into a drain but the drain may be more expensive”. He seemed very surprised but it seemed to have worked. Maybe because my portfolio was so * he didn’t expect me to be able to communicate a half reasonable solution. But hey, soft skills with a mix of technical and BS worked. We talked a bit more and he asked what kind of projects I would like to work on. A few days later… I landed the job and it was an insane experience. Pay was through an internship / government subsidy program. Of course I didn’t apply in time but it was such a good way to start my career and get some hands on experience. Good for telling stories too… Not to mention the name of the place on my resume helped opened a lot of doors. But objectively speaking, interning for experience is not the only way. It was just the way I preferred at the time because a) I was younger, b) I do better in person c) I prefer hands on. That was my approach to get in without “the skills”. I had the opportunity to stay on, not be an intern and earn a regular salary but I decided to part ways for other reasons. Anyway - there is no standard, one stop shop way of landing a job. But there is usually a common thread and that’s the initiative and drive that comes from within. I’m under a NDA so I can’t delve too much into my current role but I transitioned out of my field of work (Architecture) into the games industry a few years ago. I leveraged what skills I had plus put a lot of time and effort into a completely unrelated side project / portfolio piece. No one told me that this portfolio piece would land me the job but I was confident that it would be a good starting point to get my foot in the door. Even my girlfriend at time was very skeptical why I was spending 5-10hrs a week after work into a modelling project that no one requested. Then when an opportunity arose (protip: set up alerts on Linkedin) at one of the game studios I was interested in and I was just relentless in follow ups, emailing the HR recruiter, messaging the HR director on Linkedin, until I got an interview. Again, I didn’t have all the skills they were looking for on paper, by a wide margin. Since getting my foot in the door and landing the job, I’ve got a whole bunch of experience on a wide variety of projects and with a lot of different teams. Technically speaking I have supported teams directly and indirectly that have shipped two AAA games. I havent really stopped either. I was doing continuing education at a local university during the height of the pandemic (full remote) when things slowed down. I was also promoted somewhat recently and now I work with my original core team and IT directly and I don’t have any formal IT experience or education. Sounds a bit crazy but… the opportunity came up internally and I jumped at it. My only “IT” experience is my personal PC building and spending time on forums like this I personally love going into my job now and seeing all things that happen behind the scenes in game development. So my point is, if there is something that your passionate about or a career path you’re genuinely interested in, find a way and don’t give up Obviously I won’t understand the pain you go through but I sincerely hope the surgery helps mitigate or avoid the pain. Just remember that skills can learned a long the way. Don’t let yourself hold you back. I know, cheesey AF. Hope this motivates you in some capacity to keep moving towards your goals

I agree that we can be critical of their stack but no reviewer is perfect and many games still released in 2023 are based on older tech that were designed with the PS4 / Xbox One. Even if they are not released on those platforms. If I look at some of the most popular and highest rated games for the past few years... GoW, Final Fantasy, Horizon, Resident Evil, Star Wars, Street fighter, Diablo, they're games designed with last gen in mind. Regardless of GN's game suite... I don't see how the 5800X will pull ahead over time. Cache helps mitigate a lot of constraints on PC (slower system memory and latency). CP2077 is a fair example of a modern game that can leverage more cores (see delta between 16, 12, 8 core Zen 3 parts) and well, the 6 core die with more cache sits on top. If newer games are released and require a baseline of more cores, maybe we will see a balancing act but I don't imagine that will be the case anytime soon.

Nice! Glad you're enjoying it. I'm waiting for a sale now but very eager to get into it. RE: Budgets -> many AAA games have budgets in that range. Probably quite a bit higher on average today. You also have to consider marketing, which is probably separate from the production budget. I could only imagine what Rockstar is throwing at GTA VI. Probably just shy of a billion.

Diablo IV!? Ah - It does not say free game*

Disturbing.

Exactly! We should all erase that game from our minds. There was a report that came out after launch from Jason Schreier, linked below, that goes into detail of what really happened behind the scenes. The article is paywalled but you can read more about it here on Gamesindustry. The Starfield post Still catching up on all the announcements but today I just watched the Starfield videos. Wow! I am very (cautiously) optimistic! There is a lot of marketing and hype laced into the Deep Dive but I highly recommend watching that video. It's about 45mns long but gives a lot of good insights into the type of game this will be. I almost laughed out loud when I saw that they're basically reviving the adoring fan from Oblivion. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are some of my all time favourite games. Bethesda used to wow me but I fell off the wagon with Skyrim and didn't play much of Fallout 4. I hope this game launches well but I've learned my lesson. I will wait patiently for reviews, both critics and users before touching it. If it launches in a good state, who knows, this could be one of the best games of the year
-
You'll never catch up on the backlog. I was living abroad for years and even now, just with work which is very "agile" in a sense. Meaning I go from low work load to high work load without rhyme or reason, I've given up on beating the backlog. I usually pick a few titles, from the log and from the year, and that's my focus. If you stay on the log too long, you miss out on some of the zeitgeist of a new launch. It's hard to balance but I find dabbling on both sides help keeps me "sane".

The only thing I could find which may be what you're looking for is this: Arran: The Book of Heroes on Steam STORE.STEAMPOWERED.COM Arran is a hack and slash co-op dark fantasy adventure with some RPG elements. Gore through enemies solo or along with up to 5 online... I can't find anything with an 'R' or name similar to 'Returnal'. This is more Diablo / Torchlight than Warcraft 3 but even if it's not the game, it looks pretty decent. For the thread, I've updated the sheet with latest metacritic scores for all the titles released in the past few weeks. Including Diablo IV, Street Fighter VI, and (PS timed exclusive) Final Fantasy XVI. I still need time to add all the titles announced and new dates I won't log all the changes in a post. Too much time but if there things worth flagging after I keep digging, I will note it in a subsequent post. Important notes* Steam Next Fest is on right now. There will be some sales and of course, demos from Summer Game Fest: June 19th - 26th The Steam Summer Sale starts NEXT WEEK: June 29th - July 13th. If you're looking to buy a new title this summer, you may want to wait one more week
-
Maybe as I update the list, I will find this title for you but so far, I am drawing a blank
-
Ok! Welp *cracks knuckles* I was out for a few weeks but now I am back. A TON of updates. Before I go update the Google sheet in the OP, which will likely take me a few days, here is a link to everything that was announced during "Summer Game Fest". This was kindly logged by our friends at Eurogamer. I'm not sure if this includes other presentations beyond the main one hosted by Geoff but I'll need more time to collect info. Everything announced during Summer Game Fest 2023 WWW.EUROGAMER.NET Everything announced during the Summer Game Fest 2023 list, including trailers.<figure><video... For those that don't know, SGF (Summer Game Fest) is essentially the new E3. Too much politics with the ESA, the association in charge of E3. SGF will likely supersede E3 going forward. As another reminder, this thread is... more or less, is isolated to titles released in 2023. Anything released in 2024 and beyond isn't in scope. That said, dates change, games get announced etc. and I welcome any discussion about games

New heads for the drums. A couple, ok most of my heads are pretty beat up. Moving from Remo Pinstripes (clear) to Remo Emperors (coated). I have an 8” head on order too. Kit (toms) are 8,10,12, 14 floor, 16 floor.
-
Nice! Hope it plays well in 2023 with those patches or “mods”. There are probably a ton of mods that will really smooth out the experience now that I am thinking about it…

New Vegas is both good and bad. It definitely has a nuanced main plot with a lot of grey choices, which was refreshing for the time. Not just good / bad. The game also is catered towards gun enthusiasts. You can build your own ammunition with a press, load powder, change bullet types, collect shells etc. I’ve played it all the way through on Xbox 360 and while the quantity of performance/ glitches were high, PC bugs were even worse from my experience. If Oblivion / Skyrim / Fallout 3 are too janky for you, NV is on a whole other level. Just remember to save frequently because you will clip, the game will crash, and you’re bound to run into a LOT of jank. I remember one of the NPCs in the intro, I think it’s the doctor when you spec up… his head was rotating in a clockwise motion. It’s engraved in my mind. P.S. Of course it’s on Youtube

Just a quick update: I don’t have access to a laptop or desktop at the moment but in a couple weeks I’ll come back, update the sheet, and track all the recent announcements from the Non-E3 shows

Replacing Desktop With Laptop, Recommendations?
Slaughtahouse replied to ENTERPRISE's topic in Laptops/Tablets & Phones
I use a couple laptops for work. One is a thin / light lenovo, the other is basically a 17” production rig. 128gbs of RAM, i9 Alder lake, Mobile 3080 etc. It’s a great desktop replacement and good at moving to and from a studio but working on the lap… not so great. The laptop gets too hot to be comfortable for mobile use. Even if I force the Hybrid graphics so the priority is on the iGPU, it’s simply not comfortable. It’s great once I throw it on my desk at home or at work with a stand and a dock or simply plug in my peripherals (dual monitors etc.). I would strongly recommend a light laptop and keeping the rig for your intended use. Keyboard and your legs will get uncomfortably hot. The two in one isn’t the best, especially if you’re prioritizing light use from a couch. Don’t get me wrong, it works but I can last about 2hrs in Outlook and MS Teams on battery. On a brick you’ll be fine but I would rather work off my Lenovo T4 for admin work. Battery is 8-10hrs and does everything I need. Quiet, light. I don’t have an Alienware but that would be my top choice based on all the feedback I’ve heard in a professional context. Otherwise I would also consider a MSI laptop. TL;DR Be aware of the caveats. -
Were there past Konami collections released on Steam? Sorry, I’m just connecting the dots now. I thought the collection (Volume 1) and the Remake was a shoe in for a Steam release for PC. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. It’s not a Epic Games exclusive and Konami does not have their own PC retail platform to my knowledge.*
-
Any modifications in the remake that don’t simply just bring up the gameplay to modern standards, basically the 3Cs will be contentious. Since the whole MG5 (Kojima vs. Konami) debacle, I doubt those loyal to Kojima will want to see a RE4 Remake level modifications (Tone, level design, gameplay) from anyone but Kojima. Any MG is tricky to remake IMO without Kojima but I wish Konami the best of luck. I’m simply interested in the volume 1 collection and I bet many others will be satisfied with that if truthful to the originals IF the Remake of 3 goes to ****.
