  1. I wasn't challenging your statement, rather just providing context. It's a sizable piece. I believe from their verbiage, Ryzen CPUs are excluded from Gaming. I'm not a financial analyst by any means but my main take away from their results in the context of this discussion is that the decrease in revenue from their Client segment increased the proportion (%) of revenue they receive from other divisions, like Gaming. In a more stable market where a segment isn't dropping 54%, I don't think Gaming would be at 30%. If that makes sense. More details from their press release: Client segment revenue was $998 million, down 54% year-over-year due to reduced processor shipments resulting from a weaker PC market and a significant inventory correction across the PC supply chain. Revenue increased 35% sequentially as AMD Ryzen™ 7000 Series CPU sales grew significantly, and PC market conditions improved. More than 100 AMD-powered commercial PC platforms are set to launch this year. Gaming segment revenue was $1.6 billion, down 4% year-over-year. Semi-custom revenue grew year-over-year, which was more than offset by lower gaming graphics revenue. Revenue declined 10% sequentially primarily due to lower gaming graphics sales. https://d1io3yog0oux5.cloudfront.net/_1c5716123238c600ef4e700df3da2d96/amd/news/2023-08-01_AMD_Reports_Second_Quarter_2023_Financial_1146.pdf
  2. From their latest earnings report (Q2 2023) gaming represents 30% of their revenue. I've made a quick excel pie chart just to highlight how Gaming impacts their portfolio. Edit: Derp -> Someone at AMD already made a pie chart Investor Relations :: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) IR.AMD.COM For 50 years AMD has driven innovation in high-performance computing, graphics and visualization technologies for gaming, immersive platforms and the datacenter.
  3. Tealish’s Earl Grey slap but they have a lot of variety and I haven’t had a bad experience yet. Find something that interests you and give it a pull. RE: Coffee shop - almost (lol) I’m half Italian so coffee was omnipresent. I just discovered it later in life for consumption but my Mom always had coffee going and we dip food into coffee. A typical italian breakfast is a cappuccino and a sweet style croissant called cornetto. My wife and I have: De’Longhi EC680 and; Bodum Bistro Burr Grinder https://www.amazon.ca/DeLonghi-Espresso-Cappuccino-Advanced-Stainless/dp/B00KA8YC6A https://www.amazon.ca/Bodum-Bistro-Electric-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B0043095WW The quality of espresso for the cost is really good and it will pay for itself in one year vs. buying coffee at your local Starbucks etc. We’ve had this setup since… 2017. It’s like an i5 2500K system for the time. You can make a decent espresso but… youre limited in really controlling your pull and getting the most out. We’re on the verge of upgrading to a Rocket Appartamento or similar class espresso machine (Profitec Pro) but just waiting for sales. We both prefer the style of the Rocket but Profitec has a better upgrade path. Yea - espresso machines are like PCs XD
  4. I drink Kicking Horse too (Hola* and Smart Ass). I generally prefer the lighter to medium roasts Prices got a little crazy on Kicking Horse (~18.50 per) so I’ve been playing with others like Balzacs.
  5. Yes... coffee and tea are both great I grew up around coffee. I guess you could say, I was coffee-adjacent for the longest time. I loved the smell of coffee beans, freshly roasted. That toasty, creamy, rich, deep pleasant smell. Ah - so good. It wasn't until I was an adult did I really start drinking it regularly. I've brewed with various methods - Moka pot, french press, filtered (drip), and espresso. All have their perks but the defacto for me is espresso. It's the core of so many good drinks or can be enjoyed on its own just fine. French press or a moka pot is great when you're off grid. All you need is boiled water or a fire and you can brew coffee. Drip can be great but there is an art to it. I'm no fancy barista but if you go to a good corner / neighbourhood coffee shop where they can do either espresso or drip, chances are their drip will be good. I typically drink two a day. Min. 1. 8:00am with or without breakfast. Cappuccino. 12-2:00pm, I go wild and get my self an iced coffee, espresso, or a cold brew. Preference would be cortado. Needs to be less milky in the afternoon. No sugar. Unless it's an espresso, I may add a bit to curb some of the acidity. I find the milk sweet enough in all other drinks. Tea - A good tea can rip just as hard as coffee but I find myself skewed towards coffee because of that smell. It's just nostalgia. For tea, a loose leaf from your local shop is my preference. A prime example https://tealish.com/. Tealish has a store not that far from me and their variety is wild. I usually drink without milk but if I were watching some British programming... milk may find its way into my tea. Usually just tbl spoon of honey. If buy tea from a supermarket, it's usually chamomile, green or matcha, and mint. Matcha I think is my favourite. I find a tea before bed really help calms me for a sleep; the caffeine doesn't hit the same.
  6. Maybe it's simply a delay of a enthusiast graphics silicon. A lot of external factors could influence how they will launch RDNA 4. Report: Apple buys every 3 nm chip that TSMC can make for next-gen iPhones and Macs ARSTECHNICA.COM TSMC is said to eat the cost of defective chips so it can keep Apple's business. I voted no because we don't have the full picture. I would be inclined to believe that AMD would not get rid of a SKU with high margins, even if there is little demand vs. mid end segment.
  7. For those plebs like me who don't know the difference between QD-OLED vs. W-OLED. My take away -> you may want to wait for that 31.5", 4K 16:9, 240Hz LG W-OLED monitor. Best case end of 2024. Realistically, 2025. I'd still prefer 27" but I know I am in the minority.
  8. TL;DR Price reductions and minor driver improvements change Hardware Unboxed's original opinion on the 7900 XT.
  9. I started a new playthrough of Fallout 4 to get into the mood of a Bethesda RPG. Having a great time, nearly 8 years later. 1. I'm skeptical of launch day, week, month bugs. 2. I hope to find a physical copy of the game but it's not being retailed on PC in Canada at the moment. All Bethesda RPGs I bought on physical for Xbox or PC. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, NV, Fallout 4 etc. I want to keep the tradition going...
  10. My testing scenarios and results on driver 23.7.1 with VRR enabled in Windows and AMD Adrenalin: Scenario 1: When I drive my primary display, #1, which supports VRR, idle is ~40w on the desktop. Scenario 2: When I drive dual monitors, #1 and #2, with #2 not supporting VRR idle is back to ~100w. Scenario 3: When I drive dual displays, #1 and #3, which both support VRR, my idle is 100w. Legend: Display 1: VG27A - 1440p @ 120hz, supports VRR Display 2: HP Z24 - 1200p @ 60hz, does NOT support VRR Display 3: LG C9 OLED - 4K @ 120hz, supports VRR Scenario 1 - Results: Scenario 2 - Results: Scenario 3 - Results: Edit: I've quickly tried updating to 23.7.2. No impact.
  11. According to AMD's previous driver notes for 23.7.1 (23.7.2 is the latest at the time of writing), they've solved the high power draw on idle for RDNA 3 cards. I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere. https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/graphics/amd-radeon-rx-7000-series/amd-radeon-rx-7900-series/amd-radeon-rx-7900xtx Over at Computerbase, they've gone ahead and test various RDNA 3 & RDNA 2 cards with new equipment (Powenetics V2) and have shown impressive results. The article does not mention, to my knowledge, which driver they're testing. However, it does indicate that in Windows, you can now enable "VRR". Previously, the setting was exclusive to video adapter drivers only. Given the timing, it may be fair to assume they're using 23.7.1. To those that are in this thread and have an RDNA 2 or RDNA 3 card and were previously experiencing high power draw on idle, can you share your results? Since the article is written in German, I'll also shared an article in English from Videocardz that summarizes the info more elegantly than Google Translate. https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-idle-power-consumption-drops-from-104-to-20-watts-on-4k-144hz-monitor-once-vrr-is-enabled https://www.computerbase.de/2023-07/grafikkarten-leistungsaufnahme-idle-2023/
  12. 2023-08-01 Updates Updated Metacritic scores for the following titles (in order of release) Live A Live -> 85% (PC) Viewfinder -> 84% (PC) Remnant II -> 80% (PC / PS) Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PC) -> 88% The Expanse: A Telltale Series ->79% (PC) Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons -> 78%, 72% (PC, PS) Disney Illusion Island -> 73% (NS) Venba-> 80%, 83% (PC, PS) In other news... Baldur's Gate III will release (out of Early Access which DOES NOT COUNT) in just TWO days. Buckle up, buttercups.
  13. Looks great on your setup. I watched on mobile but still… That is definitely a title to re-add to my wishlist.
  14. Yes they could do both, even at the same time. Phase out the default machine and split the SKU into Slim & Pro. Pro keeps the disk drive, Slim replaces the digital only console (diskless) to keep size and costs down. RE: Price, I think that is region exclusive. In Canada, both PS5 and Xbox Series X went up in price.
  15. It seems rather likely at this stage considering the amount of rumours that something is coming. I do agree with you, I have a difficult time understanding what can the new system bring over PS5 from AMD's existing lineup today. Their RT performance, and improvement from RDNA 2 to 3, isn't great. Their frame generation implementation, FSR 3, was supposed to be out already. I assume they would still want to launch it on PC first but it would make sense if it releases with PS5 Pro too. That would back up "8K performance mode". I'm just thinking from a consumer perspective: What value will I receive by spending (X) on a Pro console next year? How will they market it? Better RT and frame gen? Doesn't sound all that appealing knowing RT likely won't be all that good. They already advertised the PS5 as 4K 120 / 8K 60. Barely any games are pushing the hardware now. I think a PS5 slim would be better for the consumer if there is a price reduction... but I think that is less feasible than Sony trying to market a Pro to be objective.
  16. Pikmin 4 I’ve tried to make my character look like a young “E. Gadd” for those who’ve played Luigi’s Mansion. The game is wholesome, charming, and simply really nice to unwind with. There is a demo on the eshop… but the demo is simply the game intro and it’s tedious. Once you get past the first few days, the game opens up and stretches. The good news is that your save data transfers over. So if you play through the demo, you don’t have to do it again.
  17. Greenmangaming (GMG) Summer Sale. Ends August 5th Summer Sale 2023 | Video Game Deals | Green Man Gaming WWW.GREENMANGAMING.COM Thousands of games at low prices with exclusive discounts all in one place. Grab your next game deal in the Green Man Gaming Summer Sale 2023. I use GMG a lot as an alternative when buying a new game on Steam since they usually have a 15% discount. They have a sale going on for the next 2 weeks. There are some decent deals if you're into Square Enix titles like Final Fantasy and if you have purchased from them before in the past few months, you get "XP" which nets you more discounts. Quick screenshot below (prices in maple syrup dollars).
  18. Almost reminds me when I bought my 660 Ti. They were 192-bit cards. They had the 2gb model ($299) and 3gb model ($350?). The 2gb model had an asymmetrical memory layout to get 2GB on 192 bit. The 3gb model wasn't asymmetrical IIRC. Both cards had 16x3.0 lanes. Upsell was the 670 at $399. Feels like Nvidia is following that same philosophy but just cracking down even further. Larger price gaps ($100), less lanes (8 lanes), same crappy bus (192-bit) to be more power efficient (really just cost savings). If the model has been working for 10 years and they have 70% market share in the consumer market... they do not care. Next generation they will want to entice Ampere owners to upgrade so I imagine they will put in a bit more effort than Ada in terms of marketing / pricing but still... very bleak.
  19. I don’t think you realize you’ve just started WWIII… Now I’m just waiting for an Italian to post a POV of eating a red sauce pasta (e.g., amatriciana) in a classic American car with an all white interior.
  20. Bulgogi short ribs with fried rice and tagorashi mayo. A friend of ours is a chef and gave us the insights into the recipe from a dish we call “short ribs with crack rice”. We didn’t have the methodology for the crack rice but we got fairly close. Just didn’t get the colour and texture I wanted. Ribs slapped. First time making mayo from scratch, surprisingly easy. A lot of prep but once you’re ready to go it cooks pretty quickly. Finish with short ribs on the grill with spring onion.
  21. Remnant 2 Review - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Where Remnant: From The Ashes was a strong first draft, Remnant 2 is a revolutionary sequel and a sterling manifesto for the looter-shooter soulslike. Remnant series is for lack of a better description, is a souls-like, cooperative, third person shooter. IGN just gave it a 9. Something to watch out for if you have a couple buddies looking for a game to play together. The games are built from the ground up with co-op in mind.
  22. Made a quick edit to the list above as I forgot to add "Sea of Stars". Which is a turn-based RPG, similar to Chrono Trigger. Also did another pass on the list, going back and fixing up some details. Should be in pretty good shape now. The post (above) highlights all the releases basically up until end of September. I am sure I've missed some but... there should be something there for everyone Also, Pikmin 4 is out tomorrow (Nintendo Switch only) Coming out strong with an 88 on metacritic right now.
