  1. Looks like it's MORE than just trouble with the process... Intel 7nm Delay Fallout: Law Firm Launches Securities Fraud Investigation | Tom's Hardware
  2. When I was first reading the stories yesterday,All I could picture was the Intel ceo's laying on the floor holding a CPU or a discrete graphics card up in the air and all hollering "HELP! I'm broken and I can't get up!" while AMD is in the background saying "Don't worry Intel! We have your consumers backs!" :friends_gathering:
  3. I know! I'd come down off this rant if they'd only make it so you could tell the difference between them without having to look up serial# differences or actually plug the card in. Just make it so we can tell them apart IN THE BOX.
  4. Like I was telling the wife, when someone goes into bestbuy or walmart looking for a card and sees 3 of the same gtx 1650 video cards in the display with the same amount of ram & 1 is on sale for 75 dollars less, they're most likely gonna grab the 1 on sale unless ALL the specs are out in the open for comparison. She said "they can ask the sales person" & I just laughed. When I bought my psu @ bestbuy,I had to return 1 that was flakey(low voltage out put) and the person asked me if that would matter?
  5. ANOTHER way to confuse the consumer. Just like the 1060 3Gb & 6Gb. The 6Gb version had MORE shaders and TMU's but it didn't SAY that ANYWHERE on the boxes. Only that it had 6Gb of ram. the other only said it had 3Gb of ram. You'd think the ONLY diff was the vram, but it wasn't! The only way to tell was to look online,or ask someone who knew.If buying off a shelf, good luck. This will be the same thing. people will buy the one on sale, not knowing it has an older gpu. Like I said elsewhere, HOW MANY CARDS CAN NVIDIA RELEASE WITH THE SAME NAME???
  6. I spent close to $1400 on a new build a year ago last April.Since then, the cpu has is already releasing it's 2nd generation advance(I have the 2700xt),the video card releasing IT'S second generation advance(I have the original RTX 2070),memory is going to a new format(i have ddr4, ddr5 is coming out),lucky for me my board can upgrade to pcie4 IF I buy a 3rd generation cpu. I know it seems like a low end build to many of you,but some of us can't afford to toss 1/10th of their yearly income into a new comp every year to keep up with the times. If the companies DON'T realize this, and start either pricing realistically,or releasing on a more stable base(see posted listing @ bottom for punch line.)they're going to lose the people who AREN'T extreme enthusiast and OEM's will just gain more buyers. Punch line = RTX 2060,2070,2080 and THEN RTX 2060S,2070S,2080S not to mention the GTX1600 series that has a NEW GTX 1650 being released(HOW many cards can you release with the SAME NAME???) anything to confuse the consumer and make purchasing for the average person MORE frustrating. All this is just illustrating why I won't be upgrading anytime soon. It'll wait until I make a complete build again.@ least a couple of years, more likely 5.
  7. I read another story saying pretty much the same. The 3rd party card makers would most likely be including adapters, some high end psu's with plug in options would offer a plug in 12 pin cable to purchase. And of course we'll have "knock off" adapters a week after the official ones come out. lol, should be interesting when people with 400w psu's try running some 350w Ampere card in their system.... "But I got the adapter...."
  8. I ran across this in the comments in the article and just had to laugh 'cause it was true... "Funny how when AMD has a power hungry GPU every one thinks power consumption is everything but when Nvidia hints at an upcoming power hungry atrocity everyone's cool with it."
  9. Dang, if they're gonna have reliable driver updates for games as well as bugs, then they may have just knocked 1 more reason for going with "team green" out of the argument.
  10. First off, they seem to have been having issues lately (see here --->https://downdetector.com/status/spectrum/ ) Also, you may want to ck with different servers that speedtest connects with when it runs the test. Sometimes the "optimal" isn't always the fastest. I've had times when the 1 it usually connects to(50 m away) is slower than 1 I pick that's 400 miles away. I've also had cases where a speedtest server hosted by my provider 250 miles away was only half as fast as the one hosted by my provider that's 400 miles away. Ping makes a difference also. Try changing the server U connect to over to the 1 hosted by suddenlink in Amarillo Tx. That seems to be rather reliable for me. Hmmm,I just ck'd a dozen of the 16 chicago based servers & they were pretty much able to handle my 400/40 speeds(only 1 or 2 had issues with the upload speed) so if you are still having issues AFTER restarting your modem and letting it run up and restarting you comp for a clean connection to the modem, then I'd contact the ISP. Often a modem restart can help. Edit: Pics show difference in ping with "local=optimal @ 40+ and 17ms = 400 miles away:rolleyes: ) How to reboot your modem: 1. Shut down your device (computer, tablet, phone, etc.). 2. Unplug the power cord from the modem and your router. Verify you have unplugged the correct cords by checking that all the lights on the modem/router are turned OFF. 3. Wait 1 minute, then plug the power cord back into the modem and then the router. 4. Wait for the Internet light to turn green. 5. Turn your device back on. 6. Try connecting to the Internet.
  11. Just loading the basic microsoft homepage with the browser signed in but NOT SYNCING, I can scroll down the page as fast as I can turn the wheel and the and it keeps loading new news stories fairly well.Even tried it with 15 tabs open & it kept up. Edit: Only thing I've run across is a friend having issues with some pages loading, think it may relate to this. "In the default Balanced mode, Tracking Prevention blocks most third-party trackers from sites you haven't visited, as well as "known harmful trackers." Go to Settings > Privacy and Services and change this setting to Strict if you want to block third-party trackers, even from sites you've visited. Note that this option effectively works as an ad blocker. Occasionally, you might find a site that breaks when the Strict setting is on. The quickest way to troubleshoot that sort of problem is to click the padlock icon in the address bar and then, under the Tracking Protection heading, turn the switch to Off. That automatically adds an entry for that site under the Tracking Prevention Exceptions heading. Turn the switch back to On to remove the exception from the list." I think it may be breaking some of the sites he normally visits with it on.
  12. C'mon, let's see Apple use some of the higher end Ampere cpu's in the macs for some REAL performance gains! :laugh_laugh: https://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/143683-ampere-altra-max-processors-128-cores-announced/ Even the 80 core @ 3.3 Ghz would be sweet!
  13. Maybe I worded that poorly, it offers to change from your current default(for example chrome) AFTER the chromium version of edge is installed instead of the prior non-chromium version of edge.Edge has ALWAYS been installed, before it was non-chromium,now it defaults to the chromium version being installed. The actual BROWSER YOU USE is still left @ your choice. They went from the big e icon to what looks almost like the chromium icon.
  14. As a follow up, the chromium ver. of Edge is now the default version that's offered with Windows starting with this update. Is it worth it? Well, the older hardware system I mentioned above struggles with 720hd youtube videos. In FireFox you can notice the occasional frames being dropped to keep from buffering but when the same video is played in the new Edge under the same conditions I couldn't notice any frame drops.FireFox had the Singers hand jump from 1 position to another when reaching for the mic stand several times throughout the video for example but that didn't happen in Edge. The Video was Purple Rain by Prince in 720.Audio quality of that video also seemed to be clearer/crisper when playing in Edge.
  15. https://techcrunch.com/2020/06/16/ap...obe-in-europe/ Maybe the Apple Fanboys will start getting equal pricing across the apps....
  16. say what U want about Windows, but I'm running the Windows Insider Program on a Dell Dimension 3100 from 2006 and just put the Windows 10 2004 update on it.:pOnly changes I've made to the machine were to up the ram to 3Gb and to add a video card.(I cut the Pci-e X1 slot so an x16 card would fit and it worked, card upgrade cost=under $10.00 and ram I had sitting around.) Will the current Mac OS run hardware this far back?
  17. ROTFL Just wait 6-9 months after the release of the "3090Ti" and you'll be able to get a new 3090 Ti SUPER with water cooling for $75.00 more if they run this series like they did the 20xx series.
  18. lol, OUR board is faster! (It even makes you cpu burn out faster!)
  19. The part that gets me is that they do it with intel & amd boards, Intel looks the other way & still covers the cpu under the warranty, BUT amd has repeatedly asked the companies NOT to do this and WON'T cover the cpu under warranty if they determine it's from the board running it @ the constant over voltage. They will cover OC'ing, but NOT if the board is falsifying the voltages. The reason is it gives an over voltage even when idle so it's basicly running OC'd ANYTIME it's on,even in sleep or hibernate.
  20. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ry...CkZOAcA_ZfjE9k (sigh) just what we need to worry about....
  21. lol, went from the old riva cards---> to ati---> to hd3450---> to all in wonder HD---> nvidia gt 610---> gt730---> HD5770---> GTX970---> RTX 2070 (I also bought a gtx 950 for my xeon build and a gtx 750ti for the wifes old tower for better video out put) Sadb part is I still have most of those except the 610 & 730.
