Again, look @ Sony's gaming division. They purchased Naughty Dog,when was the last time you were able to play an Uncharted game on PC or xbox? Oh,wait, you can if you stream on pc using PLAYSTATION NOW. Again, proprietary software becoming involved. In other words,Microsoft's doing the same thing others have already done.

A friend who is hard headed & NOT knowledgeable about computers asked for some help replacing his old gateway that had the old i5-650 in it. He wanted to get another used machine that would last quite a while(I wanted to just build new but he was afraid of cost)so we found an HP Z420 without the OS for about $225 with shipping. see here for most similar details--> https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-workstation-z420-cmt-xeon-e5-1650v2-3-5-ghz-8-gb-500-gb-g3e87usaba/ For the OS,We simply transferred his 500Gb drive from the gateway to the HP machine and made the blank 500Gb drive a secondary drive with the Music & Photos files being moved to it now. We ALSO went on ebay and found a refurbished Gtx 1060 6Gb from Zotacs site, and an additional 24Gb of ram for about $200 after taxes and shipping. My only issue is that I have a problem either with 1 stick of ram or 1 memory slot,so we just left 2 slots empty and he's running 24Gb of ram. On Cinebench R20 it seems to hold it's own rather nicely with the 3rd & 4th generation i-7 cpu's in the comparison list, and in the heaven bench mark it blew my i7-2600/gtx 970 scores away. I've plugged the parts in on game debates site & they say it can actually run most of the games out & coming out in medium to high with no issues. lol, He mostly web browses but now is considering getting a controller and trying some games. ? This from a man who calls me to walk him through updating CCleaner every time. The thrill of watching the frames speed by wins another convert from their phone. Oh,I also transferred the wireless card we had in his old gateway so the system is running on his wifi. If I get the chance,I'll run some test with it & put the results on a usb so I can post them here for every one.

I agree with most of what U R saying except that I feel the reason Windows dominates is because of the ease of use. Point and click made it possible for people who had no clue about DOS to be able to use a computer. (I'm 1 of them!) My first comp was Windows 95 and I STILL remember having to find updates myself before Windows Update was introduced. Now it's just point, click,& everything can pretty much be taken care of. When I started trying ubuntu & Mint 10-12 years ago for kicks, they were still difficult if you didn't have some grounding. Then you have the cost of pc vs mac which is why windows OS is dominating most places but portable(i.e. phones/tablets)

OR to bring Google BACK into the subject matter, they can install the Chrome OS. So @Diffident there's ANOTHER company making a pc operating system, and the reason I listed the consoles was because the game developer comment I made that U seem to have a problem with had NOTHING to do with the OS development part of Microsoft. It was part of the games division. YOU took 2 separate comments,1 about large software development companies NOT being punished for anti-trust in which I posted the fines & software revisions forced on Microsoft for JUST that, and the second about how the game developer purchases were more in the nature of smart business sense for the games division and showed where OTHER companies with a games division did the same. Sorry my comments don't fit your agenda. 1 final thought, have you heard of Wine? lol

Let's see some comparison. "The Steam Hardware Survey reports that as of April 2019, 0.81% of users are using some form of Linux as their platforms primary operating system." This is quoted from Forbes " Here are the top-ten best-selling consoles of all time: PlayStation 2 — 155 million units sold Nintendo DS — 154.02 million units sold Game Boy / Game Boy Color — 118.69 million units sold PlayStation 4 — 108.9 million units sold PlayStation 1 — 102.49 million units sold Wii — 101.63 million units sold PlayStation 3 — 87.4 million units sold Xbox 360 — 84 million units sold Game Boy Advance — 81.51 million units sold PlayStation Portable — between 80 and 82 million units sold Way down in 15th place you have the Xbox One with an estimated 46.9 million units sold. The original Xbox lands at 19th place with 24 million units sold, behind the Atari 2600, Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis. Meanwhile, PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 have each outsold every single Xbox system." I'm posting this since my original comment about MS buying game companies wasn't limited to them being an OS provider. Or maybe U haven't heard about Xbox Game Pass Ultimate? "With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, download and play games directly on your Xbox console or Windows 10 PC, or play games on your Android mobile phone or tablet from the cloud (Beta) with the Xbox Game Pass mobile app." They're simply doing what Sony/Playstation and Nintendo are doing. Providing games on gaming systems.

Might I also suggest ck'n the quality of the rca cables? I had my creative speakers sounding like crap and was getting actual crackling sounds from my card/source.Turned out the jack on the end of the cable was flakey and if the wire was bent a little in 1 direction everything was ok,but if the wire was bumped(by my foot or moving the comp during cleaning)the static dropped channel would start again. Replaced with new cable and sound is great again.

Ummm, U mean like with the forced removal of Windows Media Player from the OS?"Microsoft forced to split Windows, Media Player by EU"https://arstechnica.com/uncategorized/2004/12/4480-2/ Having a games division, bringing developers "into their fold" is unfortunately sound business practice.Look @ Sony and THEIR game exclusives.? @ least with Microsoft there's the hope of seeing the game on 2 platforms, unlike Sony's single platform.Or maybe you'd like to address the Nintendo exclusives? Seems they're all buying developers,Microsoft has just been a little more blatant about it."Sony has announced a new PlayStation Studios brand that it’ll be using for its first-party exclusives going forward as a way to let customers know that a game comes from one of Sony’s in-house development teams. The new branding is simpler and more focused on the PlayStation brand. It can also help Sony easily highlight exclusive games for customers who may not know that Sony owns Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo), Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us), Insomniac Games (Spider-Man), Santa Monica Studio (God of War), Media Molecule, or Sucker Punch (inFamous, Ghost of Tsushima).https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/playstation-studios-all-sony-first-party-developers-and-what-theyre-working-on

Different Streaming Devices and some Pros & Cons....
schuck6566 replied to schuck6566's topic in Chit Chat General
lol, there's no doubt U get what U pay 4, as U can see in the test results for the hardware in the link below. I was just doing this for peeps who were looking to stream & were getting confused by the different options. Amazon even released a new ver. of their 1080 stick this year with a faster cpu in 2 flavors. Lite (no tv controls and passes dolby audio through by hdmi) and regular. Here's the nvidia cpu compared to most common ones used for streaming devices in test. https://androidpctv.com/comparative-nvidia-tegra-x1-plus/ -

schuck6566 replied to Mistio's topic in PC Gaming
My wife & I are both pretty much house bound by our medical conditions so her gaming and my reading/gaming are pretty much our lives when not @ doctors. She's got this and Valhalla coming up along with trying to get her stuff off Destiny 2 before they put the planets in the vault & can't access them. lol, she's a busy girl! ? Oh! And cussing about not being able to track her xbox purchase because of a glitch they're having.? Edit: Wife just reminded me she also has the new Watch Dogs this month.- 77 replies

CDPR - Cyberpunk 2077 Screenshot and Discussion Thread
schuck6566 replied to Mistio's topic in PC Gaming
CDPR puts out some great work,AND they give great value/support for a game! When I got TW3 it was free with a hardware purchase and was fulfilled through GoG. After the Game went GoTY, GoG & CDPR automatically gave everyone that edition also if we'd already purchased the season pass. Both companies take care of their customers! ? lol, GoG even had a sale @ the time of my original purchase that allowed me to get the season pass, along with The Witcher Enhanced Edition Directors cut,and The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition for under $50.00 total.?- 77 replies

Nvidia RTX 3xxx series launch screws the pooch....
schuck6566 replied to schuck6566's topic in Nvidia
True, but what REALLY got me,was the website throwing out random email addresses to random people ck'n the order status. Who knows how many people had their address thrown out there? Will there be a class action against Nvidia for not keeping their customers info secure? Has anyone even been NOTIFIED by Nvidia yet that their email accounts were thrown into the wild? Some people had partial CC info exposed along with the email address. FOUR days after the launch of the 3080, here's what Nvidia had to say.I couldn't find anything later that would address the data leak. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-3080-qa/ Notice they just make excuses and then had the same issue in the 3090 launch? ?damn, can't remove the "spoiler" thing I accidentally put in.Maybe I should work for Nvidia?? lol -
Well, With the launch of the Nvidia RTX 3xxx series the company has shown they can really screw the pooch,or @ least the loyal customers who are there to purchase on day 1! With the launch of the RTX 3080,Nvidia's own web site started showing the RTX 3080 as out of stock moments after the GPU first went on sale, and some buyers reported that despite their efforts to constantly refresh the page, they never saw the option to actually buy a card. Then, fast forward,Nvidia launched its monster RTX 3090 GPU on Thursday, September 24, but anyone hoping that this launch would go smoother than the RTX 3080's launch a week earlier, where stock was almost impossible to get hold of would have been disappointed. Once again, Nvidia’s latest card went out of stock almost as soon as it went on sale, while websites struggled to cope with demand. This left many prospective buyers annoyed and disappointed, with many complaining that they had got to the checkout of a website with an RTX 3090 in their cart, only for the GPU to be removed and being told it was now out of stock. And then, to add the icing to the cake... "Nvidia Webpage Found Leaking Customer Email Addresses to Randos" It appears Nvidia’s website accidentally leaked some customer email addresses to anyone visiting the order status page. https://www.pcmag.com/news/nvidia-webpage-found-leaking-customer-email-addresses-to-randos?utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A Trending Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR1t4fhtQCOt_FpE6Olbfol43QZw6HPcL8gMrIqTAYwo-Y-9U1-dZNwTDsE SERIOUSLY NVIDIA????? Could consumers @ least get a complementary package of vaseline when they visit your site??

Xbox Series X & S expansion card costs $219.99
schuck6566 replied to schuck6566's topic in Console Gaming
Well,I've been doing a quick look on Amazon, the cheapest 1Tb gen4 nvme drives I ran across are $160 and up so I guess the xbox external drive unit isn't too bad since it's in it's own "adaptor" and should be cooler than a straight stick.(can't have players burning their fingers when they touch the external drive...)Hopefully after the release, there will be cheaper knockoffs being made. As it stands, the PS5 looks to be within $50 of the price and that's if their "recommended" drives meet the specs of the cheap 1's I found and they don't require the almost $200 drives I was seeing. -
https://www.polygon.com/2020/9/24/21454190/xbox-series-x-storage-expansion-card-price-seagate-ssd-1-tb-buy People better hope they either have unlimited data for repeated downloads,or that the cost eventually comes down some. The series S only has 512Gb of HDD in the unit while the X has 1Gb and a disk drive for $499. The S base price is $299 without a disk drive & lower graphics abilities. I was figuring maybe $149 for the external but over $200 is a chunk!

ROTFL, was reading that PS was in talks with Bethesda about a couple of game exclusives before the microsoft purchase. If they did conclude them I had this conversation pop up in my mind. "PS: We have a problem with the game,it needs a patch to fix it so the players can reach lvl 43 on some consoles/situations. Bethesda: Umm,Did U not get the memo? Only if an issue is effecting Microsoft systems does it rate a hotfix.ALL other patches get released on Patch tuesday which was yesterday. So your players will have to wait until next month for the release."?

Also in regards to Direct X support, DX12Ultimate is a Win 10 update and in the xbox series s & x consoles. "As for gamers, the Windows introduction of 12_2 is set to occur in the next couple of months, when Microsoft ships their next big Windows 10 feature update, Windows 10 version 2004 (also known as 20H1). And while games using the new feature level will be slow to trickle out (like any new feature level launch), it does mean that gamers will need to stick to the latest Windows to use it. Holding back a version or two (as some of us are want to do) means no DX12U for you." and https://www.wepc.com/news/directx-12-supports-next-gen-graphics/
