  1. I like it. Been I while since I've seen a 2600K talked about or benched. Glad you were able to hit 5.0GHz with it, that's always satisfying. (heck, even on a slow FX chip!).
  2. So lets lift the deadline for the time being. Goes without saying for other members as well. If you have parts or anything on order LMK. The deadline is just arbitrary anyway. I am also curious to see how your socket A rig performs.
  3. One workaround for this is to purchase a single 1680 v2 and use throttlestop to overclock from within windows. But trade off here is no second QPI link so single processor only. And only quad channel memory.
  4. WOW. I've never seen anything like this. Im assuming you can OC via FSB as well since its X79?
  5. We ran a superposition 1080p extreme benchmark over at techpowerup last year. Seems the 5700 XT is more or less on par with a GTX 1080ti. And just a couple hundred points behind a 2060 super. Can't tell you much about drivers tho. But if you search for the thread on Google you will see the results for yourself from the GPU comp. Regardless, something good about having a 5700XT under the hood so I would proceed as you would with the swap. Recommend the MSI RX 5700 XT gaming X it's one of the better cards on the market in terms of cooling and performance.
  6. Cool I just found this so I'm going to submit it, totally forgot about this OC. I was trying to replicate my original AMD Phenom II 970 OEM zosma build. Because 960Ts are still plentiful and cheap and unlock about 50% of the time.
  7. TBH I had much more difficulty managing the QX6850 in terms of voltage, clock speed and heat output (and memory clocking for that matter), running the same thermalright 120 extreme air cooler. Only reason I'm not posting that for a submission is I can't find any screen grabs and my NAS is offline ATM. But it was nothing special, i think it was a sub par chip because the highest I could really get stable was around 3.7GHz and it loved to almost complete benchmarks then BSOD like a * and totally wreck you emotionally. Going from that high to that low is mentally devastating. So to further clarify my position: the chips that let me down, they get punished. But abused? Never! Here is the only half way decent screenshot I could find of my QX6850. I may go back and revisit this platform soon, with Asus P5Q3 motherboard. You have the right attitude my friend. Do the same thing with my right foot on the gas pedal, more or less. You only live once. Might as well push it to the cutting edge. But humor aside, I really do care about these chips as I have a growing collection especially the classics. I never run them at high voltage for more than a few minutes at a time. Usually for a benchmark or validation then go back to normal 24/7 OC. This was/is my 24/7 OC for many years for the venerable Q9650. The processor now resides in a compact build for the parents. No problems or degradation, whatsoever. Sorry about bombing this thread, so I will leave you with just one more. Though not the highest overclock speed, I felt I needed to add this.. without a doubt my most satisfying OC for my Q9650. It's nice to be able to hit that 50% mark.
  8. If you do ever go down the z820 road you should take a look at the build I documented over at techpowerup. It's important to get the z820 with the higher gold rated 1125W PSU and later boot block date, so you can run ivy bridge processors in the E5 2600 series family. Earlier boot block date is limited to 1600Mhz memory and sandy bridge only IIRC. You will find all the details you need to be confident in your purchase here: 16 Core 32 Thread HP Z820 Workstation Build | TechPowerUp Forums
  9. Very efficient. Matter of fact the fans are PWM and never have to go above 20%
  10. Yup it would really be great for that type of work load. Memory speed is still very impressive with all 8 channels locked in. I definitely like using old hardware, it's like driving your 57 chevy around the state on Sunday afternoon. This rig also has active cooling on all 16 RAM modules. I currently have a 1680 v2 to see about OC with this robust cooling system. (upside down)
  11. Had to follow suit... Very similar performance #s when contrasting both subs
  12. It's an HP Z820 workstation. Incredible design and very innovative for it's time. 100% tool less. Also I had to go for the very rare factory liquid cooling system. I highly recommend you get one and find out for yourself. They can be had for $200 to $300 on ebay. Im running two E5-2696 v2 processors with a single core turbo of 3.5GHz and all core turbo of 3.1GHz. Gotta love 8 channel memory as well. With old GPU This is my current setup and I needed a decent GPU to future proof this machine for many years ahead. Not to mention four digital outputs. Ps. Those little radiators are pretty bad ass if you ask me. No problems cooling, whatsoever. Matter of fact they are rated for the 150w E5 2687w v2.
  13. I knew I had to buy a 5700XT from the very beginning, instantly loved it, so I chose the MSI Gaming X 8GB. It has one of the best heatsinks in the business and the fans will shut down completely when idling. Runs pretty cool. Definitely much lower backplate temps than with my RX 580... you could fry an egg on that thing... lol
  14. Deadline will be next Tuesday at noon. Updated boards:
  15. lol... Hey guys... Observing the fact that this is the very first comp here and that I see there is still some interest here... we will set a deadline for next tuesday but I will still keep the leaderboard current if people post better scores / improvements after that point for reference purposes. Will update again tonight... Dual x5650s
  16. Thanks for participating one and all. I wanted to thank everyone for the turnout and fun times benching. I was thinking we give this a couple more days for the immediate "end" of the competition submissions, if you feel so inclined. But I also wanted you to know you can continue to post your scores here, they likely just won't be updated anymore after next week. Thank you to @pioneerisloud for summarizing the scoring methodology above, I think it's right on point.
  17. RIP this guy was way too talented to go out so early....
  18. Yup this is what I hook up to my custom loop from the chiller side. Hot loop on one side cold on the other as as you know it's pretty effective. Of course it is a beast @ 60 plates, so much more surface area than this one you posted here.
  19. If this was a points competition you would be right near the top since you have pretty good placings on the leaderboard. Those add up to boost your overall points but Ill leave it at that for another day.
  20. Slick OC bro looks like you have everything dialed in. Especially impressive getting to 4.0GHz with that chip. Bang on point!
