Just a quick note, arcade games released on dreamcast were not 1:1 ports. Usually lower frame rate and/or visuals. Daytona for example was 60 fps and higher res in the arcade vs 30 and lower res on dreamcast.

You might be thinking of the Sega Saturn, the Dreamcast's predecessor... Yes, Daytona USA was awful on it. 30 fps and no antialiasing.

Afaik DC arcade ports were identical to the arcade or very close. See Sega Naomi. Yes, it was more powerful than the Dreamcast but Sega purposely scaled the games back a bit on the arcade versions to have them also run on the Dreamcast.

  2. Sega Dreamcast was a great era for Sega and the first console capable of running arcade games 1:1. It didn't have ports of arcade games, it had full on arcade games identical to the arcade like Crazy Taxi and many Capcom and SNK 2D fighters.

And yes, I've known about the Dreamcast/Xbox successor thing for years. Sega actually released quite a few games for the Xbox that are really good like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, and Shemmue 2.

I'm unsurprised someone did this. The Xbox came stock with 64MB RAM I believe, and if you're good enough at soldering you can remove the stock chip and replace it with a 128MB chip. People have been doing this already for years to allow soft modded Xboxes to play back 720p video streams in XBMC (Xbox media center- what turned into Kodi).

I have a soft modded Xbox myself and used to watch 480p anime on it, until I upgraded to a Raspberry Pi 3b with Kodi. The Xbox was filled with emulators and other "stuff" but unfortunately, it's clock capacitor is dead and that's basically CMOS for the thing, meaning if I turn the thing on I just get the dashboard instead of my modded XBMC interface. It also has a broken DVD drive that is stuck and won't open, preventing me from reinstalling the hack by loading a glitched savegame in Tom Clancy Splinter Cell. So I'd need to fix the DVD drive and clock capacitor before I could get it back to running the soft mod.

*Shrug* I have a retropie with emulators and it's way more portable, can run it at 1080p if I want, it is way smaller and lighter.

Still cool someone got a game running at 720p that isn't supposed to but this RAM mod people were doing in 2004.

    Agreed on Administration.

If I had a tech issue that I had questions about that I could not find the answer to on my own, this would be the absolute best place to seek further information. Hands down. It is extremely rare that I find myself in that situation, but it's great to know where to go when it happens. I think it's extremely rare for all of us to need help on tech stuff because we are all so good at our craft. It's too bad there are not more users here seeking expert knowledge (maybe a marketing angle @ENTERPRISE)

Well, I have a nice rig imo and so does my fiancee, but I would potentially be seeking expert knowledge if I were to get into water cooling my rig fully. I kinda know the principles and what you need in a loop, but I've never done it. I've decided it's just not doable for me with my pain issues, as well as the size of my case and room in it. Props to seemingly everyone here and my friends here who all water cool.

If I were going to water cool my system, I would definitely come here and ask for a parts list etc. as opposed to looking elsewhere or asking elsewhere for that information. You are 💯 percent right. EHW is the best.

  4. Hey, so I'm wearing my white EHW tee with the simple logo. It seems to be water proof?

I spilled some tea on my shirt, not very much, but enough that on a cotton shirt it would soak in and make a small brown circle or something. I was like oh sonuva dammit but...

Instead, it ended up on the shirt and made it wet but did not soak in to the fabric, it sorta rolled off and brushed off and was immediately dry with no stain.

I haven't looked at the store for the material or confirmed that they are water proof, I already know they are 100% polyester from looking before but yeah.

Really nice material for these shirts and good for me and drinking my daily tea, since I'm an idiot and spill it on my shirt frequently.

  5. You beat me to it, pio. I was going to quote and say the same thing.

Yeah, we have a great number of dedicated users who all love the site and support it. Additionally, having dealt with you a lot privately and being former staff (which I accepted long ago now), I can confidently say that we have the best admin on Earth 🌎

It's warm enough now where I live that I can wear the t-shirts I have. I will be wearing them to physical therapy, as well as restaurants. I tell people the url and what the site is about regularly because I want to see it grow (like in the Growing the Site thread).

Great site with a great admin and a ton of greatly experienced, talented users in many ways.

Thank you for your recommendations... And has anyone an experience with the Passmark Burn in test?

Since everyone is saying use GSAT and I agree, here is a little imformation and help for you since you're new to it.

GSAT stands for Google Stressful Application Test. It's what Google uses to stress test their servers.

To get it, open a terminal and type: sudo apt install stressapptest

To run it once it's installed, copy and paste this into your terminal:

    stressapptest -s XXXX -M 29000 --pause_delay 9999999999 -W --max_errors 1

XXXX seconds to run. 3600 is an hour and if you can pass an hour you are probably stable, though I did 4 hours on my current RAM OC.

    Hope this helps.

  7. My brother said he should finally have his room at the house he shares with other people. Currently he's in a small space, a very small room and has no room for his stuff, consoles, or PC which is all in storage.

As opposed to the Razer Kishi, he asked for a retropie and I can just write my backup of mine to an SD card for him. He also already has a Rock Candy wired Xbox 360 controller he can use with it. So that's what I am going to do instead.

Never tried, sounds expensive as heck at $75 USD for 1.35 kg / 3lbs, especially with no real details. Sounds mass produced. Which doesn't mean its bad but I'd expect much better value.

I buy the Echo from Stereo for about $40 CAD for a 2lb bag. I stay strong with my reco:

    1. find a local coffee shop
      1. When I say local, Im talking hipster / small business.
    2. build a relationship
    3. ask them for recos.

It is mass produced, but it's fantastic. No lie. It's made by Sysco, which is a huge restaurant supplier.

    SHOP.SYSCO.COM

I have the Stereo Echo already, and mom doesn't like it. So I need suggestions for a medium roast, arabica, columbian coffee that is cheaper.

Also, the 2 lbs. bag of Stereo Echo is like $50 USD for us (minimum, it might be more, I'd have to ask the fiancee). We have some already and its lasting.

I don't go anywhere generally, I'm a shut in with poor social skills, so all that going to coffee shop/getting to "know" people/ asking for recommendations is not something I'm able to do. Not to mention we don't really have a coffee scene here, it's all chains.

Please just suggest something similar to a medium roast, 100% columbian arabica coffee for much cheaper. She's trying to find one she likes that she can drink every morning and she's gotten to be very picky in old age...

    Thanks

  9. Hey @ENTERPRISE

Any chance we could get t shirts with the design I made that you're using on the desk mats? The site logo, with icons underneath that have a gradient. On a white shirt.

I'd buy one of these if they were available.

Retroarch on Android is a pretty great starting point, it acts as kind of a mini front-end and manages a bunch of "Cores" for each system and has multiple options for each system.

It has a slightly weird layout and config so definitely might require some guides, but it does a lot of the config, video, controls and all that stuff for you.

Emulation Station Desktop Edition is also working on an Android Front-end that can interface with Retroarch that I'm playing with right now and has made managing all my games much easier with full controller support.

I am very familiar with retroarch as well as EmulationStation as they are both on my custom retropie. Did not know they were available for Android. Thanks.

Just search for the Razor Kishi.

Thanks, will do in October for my brother.

  11. Hey @Slaughtahouse, are you familiar with Citavo coffee? Our local Italian restaurant we go to serves it after dinner and it's fantastic. We asked the waitress what it was and she showed us.

We ordered some and I guess it's a restaurant supply company, but it was $75 for 24 2oz packets, enough to make one 12 cup pot.

We are interested in something similar (but much cheaper)for my mom to drink every morning, so I thought I'd ask you. On the package it says 100% Columbian and 100% arabica. We want something that tastes similar. No fruity or nutty notes or anything, just strong coffee.

    Thanks bud.

  12. Hey guys I'm thrilled, I got my EHW desk mat today. Quality is amazing and I flattened out the one edge that was curling under and it is now perfectly flat first day without needing to put a book on it for a week like I did with my last one.

Sitting good next to my Royal Kludge RK100 and CM Mastermouse MM520.

Fair warning, this thing is very large! I didn't need to set monitor legs on top of my old one, this one I did. Width is roughly the same but depth/Y axis is much larger than most deskmats.

  13. Alright I had my second hip surgery on Thursday, this time on the right. Pain post op was really bad like the car ride home, and my leg (front thigh) where they opened it up. Getting out of thd car was a b----. Also, had severe difficulty sleeping that night and had to take Benadryl (which I had quit) as well as other things to finally fall asleep at 3:30am.

I sleep falling asleep on my back and wake up usually on the right side. Problem with that is, I have a brace I have to wear 24/7 for at least a month and being right sided, prevents me from laying on that side. However, last nights sleep was better and I slept in til 11am.

Anyway, I am getting around fine just like the last time, supposed to be using crutches but I'm not :x Just taking smaller strides and keeping my weight on the left leg.

I start PT on Tuesday which will be a strength/movement radius evaluation and then the next one will be actual exercises. Supposed to go for 5 months. Last time only did 3 and am still having relatively bad left side hip pains so I aim to follow through this time for the next 5 months. A lot of hip exercises work both hips at once, nature of the beast so I'm optimistic and looking forward to this helping.

Hope everyone else here is pain-free or at least tolerating well. Regards guys.
