Keeping everyone updated on the latest...07.30.25, 4:20pm CDT I just wanted to give a quick update. I finally finished emailing back everyone by Monday evening, that took me way longer than expected! If you sent me an email and didn't get a reply, then I must not have received it, try sending one again through the "Contact Us" form please! You guys are something else, as of today there's been a total of over $2,800 donated! I'm totally speechless from how much you guys chipped in these past few days, truly a class act! Needless to say that will keep the server hosting paid for quite some time!!! Once I get the site moved I have some interesting things I want to hopefully roll out sooner rather than later. Tuesday morning I had to go to the dentist for a crown prep and a filling. I've done lots of fillings over the years, no big deal. This was my first crown and wow has it been a doozy! When the anesthesia wore off the pain was crazy, I don't think I finally fell asleep till around 3am because the pain was keeping me awake. I went back to the dentist today (Wednesday) and they did some grinding and we talked about exactly what has happening and he prescribed me some meds to hopefully ease the pain over the next couple days. If things don't get better then I'll have to go back again on Monday and try something else. So I took the meds with lunch and not long after I started feeling extremely nauseous! So fun times trying to lay down and sit up and do whatever you can just try to hold it all down. These past two days I have done exactly nothing except be miserable. Don't get my wrong, my dentist is great, I'm the one that is a mess with some of my roots pushing up into my sinuses it has always been an issue we've had to be careful with. This past weekend I started setting up a test server instance at home that I want to pre-configure everything and make sure the stats and such will work as expected since I'm transitioning from CentOS to (hopefully) Ubuntu. Once I can verify everything is running as it should then I can look for new hosting and get everything moved. But first, I need this tooth pain to subside before I do any more, I can't even think right now.

NEW Update: (excerpt / Copy) You all are too much!07.25.25, 7:15pm CDT First off, I want to say a HUGE thank you to every person that sent me a donation! I honestly wasn't expecting any, or even thinking about it yesterday, my mind was just kind of thinking like this was the time to start winding things down, but you guys proved me wrong. Likewise a HUGE thank you to every person that has emailed me, whether it's offering help or just words of support and encouragement, you guys don't know how much that means to me. I will reply to every email that I've received, just give me a little time, at first it was slow going, but I'm getting better with each reply, I think. With that said, donations right now would cover till the end of the year if I didn't do anything. For everyone wondering, hosting (colocation) costs me $155 a month. As I've been telling everyone in my emails the server itself is over 15 years old. Between monthly cost, server age, and reduced traffic over the years, it's time to find something more modern and affordable. I briefly looked at some VPS and VDS (virtual private/dedicated server) hosting and I think I can confidently find one for under $50 a month that has the necessary specs for processing the stats in a timely fashion. So that's going to be a project for me this weekend to start researching reputable hosting companies and comparing prices and specs and whatnot. That is one possible route for us to go. If you sent me an email but haven't heard back, don't worry (yet)! I've still got so many to reply to but it's getting late and I've had a long day. Tomorrow I'm going to power through the rest of them one way or another. Everyone has been giving me various ideas for things or offers of help, so I want to get through them all, and then we can formulate some plans and evaluate our full set of options.

Yeow, over $800.00 / month! Mine is not that expensive thankfully (@ ~ $0.14/ kWh), though I've seen it over $600/M before. Still cheaper than owning a boat. Yes, the Electric bill for both running the Rigs & the extra central A/C load, to keep the house cool does get to be a bit of a money pit. My folding will slow down for the rest of the summer months; you might see more PPD once the cold winds start to blow in the late fall / early winter. ( see photo, 128.5 M Points in 24 Hours / not bad for summertime fun) Can't wait to see the next electric bill. Thank You damric, for all that you do for Extreme HW Folding community I enjoyed the 48 Hr sprint, thanks for letting me play! -

Thanks for the PPD feedback I agree that the 3080Ti do pull some Watts. Though the PPD is not bad 8M - 10 M (I've got 2 - 3080Ti FTW3 Hybrid pushing estimated over 19 M, PPD (for the pair) & pulling 1000 Watts on the X99 MB) It is about time I sell some of my 3080Ti FTW3 GPUs; maybe my 3090Ti FTW3 Hybrid ...... probably keeping my 3090Ti KingPin - "Last of the EVGA KP legends" (as I am unwilling to let it go for less than what it cost; besides it looks way cool in my EVGA X299 Dark MB) -

Time to play. It is a shame the weather will be in the 90s F or I could really put the PPD into overdrive Recently, I have switched over to Team 239902 FYI: I'm now officially retired from Mod duties with EVGA Forum -
Looks like EOC Folding@Home Stats service may be on borrowed time. --->>> "Once his old server dies ..... it is over" Please read the link for all the details It would be a shame to see this happen; I for one have used & donated to this site over the years. What can the Folding community do to Help? News and Updates - Folding@Home Stats - EXTREME Overclocking FOLDING.EXTREMEOVERCLOCKING.COM Latest news for EOC F@H stats. Help Folding at Home fight Coronavirus, further medical research, and prevent diseases with... (excerpt) All Good Things...07.24.25, 5:33pm CDT It is with a heavy heart that I'm making this post. It's taken me all day to try and write this, I can't believe I'm getting so emotional. Back around March of 2000 I created EXTREME Overclocking, and not long after some of us in the forums got involved in Folding@Home. I originally started tinkering with making some folding stats in 2003. While I never managed to build out all the features I wanted (life always seems to get in the way), the site and scripts have been pretty darn reliable if I do say so. But as with everything I guess, trends change, people change, everything changes. I stopped messing with EOC many years ago but always kept the folding stats going because of the public interest and over time I kind of ended up being the proverbial last stats site running. I told myself as long as the ad revenue covered the hosting cost then I would just keep it going. Unfortunately these days so much traffic is just bots, and Google AdSense dwindled down to so little last year that I've been paying a considerable portion out of pocket each month for the server hosting. I've been unemployed for quite some time now and I simply can't justify the continued non-essential expense. I considered just turning the server off and calling it quits, but I couldn't do that to you guys, for however few might still actually visit the site. So instead I'm going to be transitioning the stats to my little home server which even though it too is extremely old, should hopefully still be able to handle the load and traffic. But if / when that old machine dies, I don't know I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there. I don't know if I'm going to mess with any other portions of the site since they are so outdated, or have it all just redirect here to the stats. I know at minimum I will probably pull the plug on the forums, they have been a ghost town for quite some time and it would just be more of a hassle than it's worth to try and get working. I always hate to see old sites disappear, it feels like losing pieces of history. So that's the plan, move the folding stats and bare essentials of other portions of the site to my home server and see how long it runs on that. Just thought I would let everyone know beforehand, in case things go fubar.

Several CAT8 network cables, to build out my network upgrade. I only needed CAT6A; but, the price was so close that I decided why not. I've discovered a bad CAT6 in my existing setup & decide to move to full support for 2.5Gb speeds that my hardware supports to improve the movement of data across my network. Also am trying to figure-out if my ISP 1.2 Gbps service only being ~.900 GB is on my side I am only getting ~0.900 Gb at modem w/ 1Gb laptop (should be .940-.950 on 1Gb card) & (the 2.5 Gb PC rigs are behind 2.5Gb router, on Cat 6) So is it my network cables or Comcast as the root cause of poor speed?; just decided to remove the network cables as a potential bottleneck, currently using Cat5E & Cat 6 network cables. Will test with these new cables before upgrading any more cables & see if it delivers any improvements on network or from ISP These are the Brands popped up when searching the web / never used them before DbillionDa Cat8 Ethernet Cable, Outdoor&Indoor, Heavy Duty High Speed 26AWG, 2000Mhz with Gold Plated RJ45 Connector, Weatherproof S/FTP UV Resistant UGREEN Cat 8 Ethernet Cable, High Speed Braided 40Gbps 2000Mhz Network Cord Cat8 RJ45 Shielded Indoor Heavy Duty LAN Cables (edit for clarity)

EVGA Forum became read only suddenly & suggestion was to engaging on Reddit / many seem to not like that platform Looks like there are members who will be looking for a new forum to call home; as their comments on Reddit suggest it is not for them Folding & Crunching teams will probably also see some losses. So, did you have to do a new 2 year contract to get $85/m rate? That same plane for me is $99.99/m & I never see anywhere near 1.2 Gb download speeds, even with a new Nighthawk 2.5 Gb modem & my PC connected directly to the modem for a "clean speed test" ... maybe 900 Mb is the best I'm seeing Comcast sucks, cant even go back to only 800Mb and save any money - it would actually cost even more ???? Comcast = monopoly + bad customer service & automation hell to try & get any help / Live body on the phone. back on subject: bought some Bird seed for the cat TV

New York starts enforcing $15 broadband law that ISPs tried to kill
CoolGTX replied to Kaz's topic in Technology and Science
ISPs have a monopoly in many (most?) areas of the country & they price their service accordingly. Need an example? Why does it matter where you live, to see the advertised price for ISP services for the same ISP It is not for taxes & fees as those are always added to the ISP's bill & vaguely referenced deep in the "advertising jargon". (edit) You have to wonder why, with the state of currently technology, the taxes & fees are not a part of the visible price if they have your address? -

you just have to think that the consumer will end-up being forced to giving consent; because, it will be hidden deep within the "click here if you want to use you vehicle's" OnStar, GPS, Cell phone, maintenance reminder, emergency help ...... hell "owners" will probably be force to agree to "terms" just to make the engine turn on. Some massive document with all sorts of "requirements"; because there will be no a la cart selection process .... Oh, you want your $80K vehicle to work - sure, just click Agree, on this binding legal 400 page micro-print document. You can go to DoWeScrewYouAndHow.com to read the terms -

I'm late to the thread; however, it may be helpful to both OP & future loop adventurists Make sure you clean the loop parts before assembly - tap water is fine unless you have hard water/ scale issues, always final rinse with distilled water. Dry & cover parts if you not going to fill loop & just need to make a multi day process out of it. You do not want mold growing in dark, damp & warm parts. Cleaning with tap water, do not make a solid connection to the parts without a pressure control valve to limit water psi to about 4 psi Max. You can hold soft tubing near the tap when rinsing parts as long as the flow is unobstructed. Water cooling parts are not made to take lots of pressure - you can damage o-rings & plastic parts @ house water pressure levels. Read the directions for the pressure tester you buy & you will see just how low of pressure you should limit testing / cleaning to Budget (they are cheap) for a air pressure loop tester ... it will save you time & give you peace of mind. NEVER power the PC until you test run the coolant pump for enough time that you are sure there are no leaks. Use paper towels to look for ANY liquid transfer. EK-Loop Leak Tester Flex is a fast and safe way of testing for possible leaks in your liquid cooling loop https://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109848388.pdf max pressure is on Page 6 Koolance is simply the best coolant that will easily last 3 years or longer. I have used EK premix & also used distilled with a biocide ..... wish I had just started with Koolance, it would have saved several loops from gunk & damage to the plating --> Koolance 702 Liquid Coolant, High-Performance, Colorless FYI: Also, as your new to this do Not Mix metals ... NO aluminum in your loop as the galvanic corrosion will destroy things. Any loop with aluminum (think AIO cooler) has special coolant & all parts are compatible by design. ---> EK even says do not use silver "kill coils" with their nickle blocks Links -8-A & 8-B listed below are all about the loop & coolant chemistry & worth the time to read Having a plan on how you plan to drain the loop & making the provisions to drain the loop in the future, does come in handy & makes life much simpler Drain plan: 1) where does the drain connect (lowest point being drained) installing a valve helps prevent making a mess & you should plug/ block the drain in case of valve failure removable drain line that screws into the valve is my go to - gives me the length to reach the edge of the workbench & into the collection container (used distilled water 1 gal ) in a pinch QD can be used, just expect some liquid to spill when you open or close the QD joint. 2) where will you let the air into the part(s) being drained - any plug near the loop high point can be loosened or eventually removed ---> To "do the Math to compute heat loads" TDP & Calculating Delta-T (excerpts) First tip: Google is your best friend to help find TDP (Thermal Design Power) of your components to be cooled in your loop.
