Several CAT8 network cables, to build out my network upgrade. I only needed CAT6A; but, the price was so close that I decided why not. I've discovered a bad CAT6 in my existing setup & decide to move to full support for 2.5Gb speeds that my hardware supports to improve the movement of data across my network. Also am trying to figure-out if my ISP 1.2 Gbps service only being ~.900 GB is on my side I am only getting ~0.900 Gb at modem w/ 1Gb laptop (should be .940-.950 on 1Gb card) & (the 2.5 Gb PC rigs are behind 2.5Gb router, on Cat 6) So is it my network cables or Comcast as the root cause of poor speed?; just decided to remove the network cables as a potential bottleneck, currently using Cat5E & Cat 6 network cables. Will test with these new cables before upgrading any more cables & see if it delivers any improvements on network or from ISP These are the Brands popped up when searching the web / never used them before DbillionDa Cat8 Ethernet Cable, Outdoor&Indoor, Heavy Duty High Speed 26AWG, 2000Mhz with Gold Plated RJ45 Connector, Weatherproof S/FTP UV Resistant UGREEN Cat 8 Ethernet Cable, High Speed Braided 40Gbps 2000Mhz Network Cord Cat8 RJ45 Shielded Indoor Heavy Duty LAN Cables (edit for clarity)

EVGA Forum became read only suddenly & suggestion was to engaging on Reddit / many seem to not like that platform Looks like there are members who will be looking for a new forum to call home; as their comments on Reddit suggest it is not for them Folding & Crunching teams will probably also see some losses. I'm trying to use the Reddit platform & it does not seem very user friendly / organized IMO .... have to see if this old dog can learn new tricks Maybe a few of those folks will give this forum a chance Folding@EVGA - EVGA Forums FORUMS.EVGA.COM Fold All the Proteins! So, did you have to do a new 2 year contract to get $85/m rate? That same plane for me is $99.99/m & I never see anywhere near 1.2 Gb download speeds, even with a new Nighthawk 2.5 Gb modem & my PC connected directly to the modem for a "clean speed test" ... maybe 900 Mb is the best I'm seeing Comcast sucks, cant even go back to only 800Mb and save any money - it would actually cost even more ???? Comcast = monopoly + bad customer service & automation hell to try & get any help / Live body on the phone. back on subject: bought some Bird seed for the cat TV

New York starts enforcing $15 broadband law that ISPs tried to kill
CoolGTX replied to Kaz's topic in Technology and Science
ISPs have a monopoly in many (most?) areas of the country & they price their service accordingly. Need an example? Why does it matter where you live, to see the advertised price for ISP services for the same ISP It is not for taxes & fees as those are always added to the ISP's bill & vaguely referenced deep in the "advertising jargon". (edit) You have to wonder why, with the state of currently technology, the taxes & fees are not a part of the visible price if they have your address? -
FTC Acts Against General Motors for Sharing Drivers’ Data

you just have to think that the consumer will end-up being forced to giving consent; because, it will be hidden deep within the "click here if you want to use you vehicle's" OnStar, GPS, Cell phone, maintenance reminder, emergency help ...... hell "owners" will probably be force to agree to "terms" just to make the engine turn on. Some massive document with all sorts of "requirements"; because there will be no a la cart selection process .... Oh, you want your $80K vehicle to work - sure, just click Agree, on this binding legal 400 page micro-print document. You can go to DoWeScrewYouAndHow.com to read the terms -

Video tutorials for Linux Dual Boot, Folding, Tweaking and more
CoolGTX replied to neurotix's topic in Operating Systems
Thanks, good to know that bit of info to make life easier. FYI: Holding down the "shift key" before you select "shut down" in Windows .... keeping the shift key down until all power is off to the PC will clear the Windows Fast Startup file (last good startup file) .... so when Windows starts, Windows looks for new hardware & drivers -

I'm late to the thread; however, it may be helpful to both OP & future loop adventurists Make sure you clean the loop parts before assembly - tap water is fine unless you have hard water/ scale issues, always final rinse with distilled water. Dry & cover parts if you not going to fill loop & just need to make a multi day process out of it. You do not want mold growing in dark, damp & warm parts. Cleaning with tap water, do not make a solid connection to the parts without a pressure control valve to limit water psi to about 4 psi Max. You can hold soft tubing near the tap when rinsing parts as long as the flow is unobstructed. Water cooling parts are not made to take lots of pressure - you can damage o-rings & plastic parts @ house water pressure levels. Read the directions for the pressure tester you buy & you will see just how low of pressure you should limit testing / cleaning to Budget (they are cheap) for a air pressure loop tester ... it will save you time & give you peace of mind. NEVER power the PC until you test run the coolant pump for enough time that you are sure there are no leaks. Use paper towels to look for ANY liquid transfer. EK-Loop Leak Tester Flex is a fast and safe way of testing for possible leaks in your liquid cooling loop https://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109848388.pdf max pressure is on Page 6 Koolance is simply the best coolant that will easily last 3 years or longer. I have used EK premix & also used distilled with a biocide ..... wish I had just started with Koolance, it would have saved several loops from gunk & damage to the plating --> Koolance 702 Liquid Coolant, High-Performance, Colorless FYI: Also, as your new to this do Not Mix metals ... NO aluminum in your loop as the galvanic corrosion will destroy things. Any loop with aluminum (think AIO cooler) has special coolant & all parts are compatible by design. ---> EK even says do not use silver "kill coils" with their nickle blocks Links -8-A & 8-B listed below are all about the loop & coolant chemistry & worth the time to read Having a plan on how you plan to drain the loop & making the provisions to drain the loop in the future, does come in handy & makes life much simpler Drain plan: 1) where does the drain connect (lowest point being drained) installing a valve helps prevent making a mess & you should plug/ block the drain in case of valve failure removable drain line that screws into the valve is my go to - gives me the length to reach the edge of the workbench & into the collection container (used distilled water 1 gal ) in a pinch QD can be used, just expect some liquid to spill when you open or close the QD joint. 2) where will you let the air into the part(s) being drained - any plug near the loop high point can be loosened or eventually removed ---> To "do the Math to compute heat loads" TDP & Calculating Delta-T (excerpts) First tip: Google is your best friend to help find TDP (Thermal Design Power) of your components to be cooled in your loop. (CPU watts @load + GPU watts @load + GPU watts @load+ pump watts) x 0.85 = Loop TDP watt estimate To help calculate a full system TDP, you can download the interactive TDP and radiator estimation sheet (link) I* put together to help you. Open Planning Discussion for 2024 EXTREMEHW Annual 2024 Folding Event
CoolGTX replied to damric's topic in Folding@Home
Earlier is better in North America, when it is coldest. However I am not sure how many participants are in other parts of the world, in their warm season. It all depends of your target market & the goal(s) of running the contest, besides a boost to your team's overall Folding standing Prizes, shipping expenses & "Government fees" for cross border shipments ...... would calling it a "Gift" & not a "Prize" make any difference? Shipping in general has gotten way more expensive over the last few years A couple of other ideas, besides what has already been suggested "group funding" 1) you could limit the award of (some/most) prizes, to avoid cross border shipments & those additional fees ? 2) Gift cards instead of items? Though I have no idea if gift cards incur, cross border fees 3) Winner is responsible for shipping & government fees ? Last years contest was full of great prizes, however maybe more "ExtremeHW swag" & less new products could still be a great way to motivate participation? -

That is Fantastic & very generous of be quiet! Thank you very much for looking into this & getting a quick answer & resolution. I was trying hard to resist the temptation to just open & use the 280 on an impromptu test bench setup to test some parts; as I just figured I would need to return the 280. -
