Broken orders, lame !

So I ordered an Alphacool block for my EVGA 3090. Been waiting ages as....well everything has been out of stock. So I received it today all giddy, but then bam! it is busted. 

 

 

It is the stand off to the rear of the block for accepting the backplate, no idea how it got damaged as all the packaging was immaculate, so I guess it may have been packed, broken somewhere then boxed up and set out.  Sent out a mayday to their support so I am hoping I can get a replacement sent out and not have to wait the next eon. Granted I could likely live with this as it is not a huge issue so far as the operability, but when you pay for something you expect it not to be borked.  Please press F to pay respects.

Damn that's a bummer. Maybe you can send some pics to the store you got it from and they can send you another one without making you send the broken one back so you can use it in the meantime. 

 

Looks like a pretty clean break, could probably glue it.

I have sent them the images of the break, so I am just waiting for them to get back to me. Have to admit I really could do without the hassle of shipping it back, but whatever gets the job done I suppose. Yeah for sure, you could just glue it back into place, if I was desperate enough.

It's an option to glue it back, but you paid for a good/working product like you said.

I may just glue it. Just checked, they are out of stock for like a month. Unless they keep stock back for RMA purposes...may not fancy waiting that long. What is for sure, I am getting a partial refund if I decide to use it.

Will they let you keep the one you have and send you another one when they get one in stock so you can glue it and use it in the meantime?

 

I suppose if you had to you could also send it back once they have more in stock.

Now that you've waited so long, you've got options.  If you're not comfortable with AC now, Bykski and Phanteks both make wicked looking blocks for the 3090

It is an idea but such a PITA to fit the block only to remove it later to fit a replacement. Call me lazy lol

Yeah, looking at their site, it looks like PT is just doing Strix right now for the 30 series, which is a shame, because it's the best looking block on the market right now.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a bunch of orders via Amazon and also a specialist US retailer for a dual-loop w-cooling build over the last 10 days. Some of it arrived on time, some of it apparently did but the security 'buzz code' wasn't passed on even though they have it...so lots of running around.

 

...but one item (a Phanteks CPU w-block) stands out. Ordered from Amazon with a nice delivery date and online tracking, it was supposed to arrive last Friday by 10 pm...it kept on saying that until 10.01 pm (after wasting the whole day to catch the delivery), then switched to 'could arrive between March 9 and March 17, or might request cancellation'...upon further customer service contact, it turns out that it is either lost or stolen in transit   after leaving their station in Kent, Washington (where it had arrived 30 min earlier)...

 

...they promised to rush a replacement order here by this Wednesday, we'll see...

Nothing more disappointing to see then a broken product when you have been waiting eons for it. I also got an Alphacool block for my 3070 and it was a pre-order. I got it last week and checked and it looked good. But on the shop's site, still listed as pre-order so don't think they are getting more than what they have orders outstanding for currently.

 

Bykski was the other brand that made a block for my card, but their block won't ship till like end of April. Plus just feel a little weary of a Chinese brand like that. Not sure about their nickel plating, and other things like that.

Yeah looks like Alphacool are back on pre-order so doubt I will get a timely replacement. What I will say is that the broken standoff is in the bottom corner by the power connectors so its not actually detrimental.

Apparently it softens the surfaces so the surfaces re-bond as opposed to just glue. I have used it before but not in this scenario lol.

...that doesn't sound like a bad idea, especially considering the location of the break...but you may want to check w/ Alphacool as to whether that's going to wipe out the option of getting a replacement...and get their answer via email / in writing...

Yeah I was not going to do a repair until after I hear back from them as to not shoot myself in the foot.

Good catch, and highly unusual for Bykski.  I've always known them to be Bitspower level attentive to details and workmanship

Oh that's good to know. I don't know anything about Bykski and wasn't sure if they were any good.

Well it looks like they are going to refund me, no mention of sending anything back which makes sense as they would not be able to sell it on and the cost to them for return shipping likely does not make it viable.
