Alienware customer Robert Felter is accusing the company of running a “false and misleading” marketing campaign, in which it promised that the laptop’s core components, including the CPU and GPU, could be swapped out for more powerful models. A year later, the Area-51m R1’s successor was announced with new components not available as upgrades for the original model.

Back in the days you could upgrade most alienware and other brand cpu and mxm gpu,

 

Even some reseller had part list like eurocom

Interesting. Albeit I have only ever owned one laptop and it was a IBM Thinkpad 360 (486 CPU). Only things I ever knew people upgraded on laptops were RAM and storage. My how things have changed, but I guess it makes sense. I'm sure the guy who filed the suit is a boomer.
