This makes it seem very likely that Microsoft will officially support more aging processors on future builds of the new OS.

While ASRock in particular has an extensive list of boards with older chipsets like the AMD 300 and Intel 100 series billed as compatible with TPM 2.0, it notes that support from Microsoft may vary. Also, many of the officially supported Intel and AMD CPUs are only compatible with the newer chipsets.

Oh nice, mine will work, not really surprising though since I got a 2020 motherboard and CPU. I still don't agree with Microsoft doing this. They just effectively made a whole bunch of relatively new hardware obsolete.

lol, looks like my i7 2600 doesn't have to worry about "movin on up..."  Planned obsolescence strikes again.

If I'm not mistaken, WIN 10 is going to be maintained until 2025, at least as far as security fixes go. No rush if that's the case.

Windows 11 is not something I will migrate to for a little while, I will let others suffer with the bugs this time round. I do not agree with the whole TPM thing. Recommend it, sure. Enforce it ? Silly.

That is true, however there's a ton of more than capable hardware that will still be capable in 2025 that will effectively be obsolete.

The 1950X is not supported by Windows 11, the R3 3100 is and is worse in every way apart from power consumption. This makes no sense.

Yeah, with any luck it'll keep getting the kind of "extended shelf life" that windows xp got after the "official" end. 17 1/2 years if you used the registry hack...

If microstuttering in games, sluggish multitasking, laggy VR playback, high CPU usage on 4K, and a general desire to keep stalling because my greedy ass wants a Ryzen 9 on AM5 despite the obviously predictable supply shortage that will exist after its launch all isn't going to get me to upgrade my i7-2600K now, Windows 11 certainly won't push me over the edge.

I just went through an upgrade cycle for most work and play hardware - and finally upgraded all machines to Win 10 Pro (apart from one trusty Win 7 64 which still - btw - still gets important security updates, like last week  ). 

 

While most of my equipment will  likely meet TPM 2.o one way or the other, I have no intention to update to Win 11 in the immediate future - the leaked version of Win 11 didn't seem to have a performance advantage and I don't like that 'mobile phone' interface...Luddites unite & long live XP Pro 64 !
