EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 RPM sensor spikes lead to a new firmware update

When it was discovered that Amazon’s New World game might be responsible for a number of the graphics cards fail, users have reported that especially the high-end graphics cards from EVGA are affected.  

 

It was relatively quickly discovered that EVGA RTX 3090 series suffer from a faulty fan controller, as reported by Igor’sLAB. Igor was among the first to test an updated version of the game that locked the framerate in menus. The RTX 3090 FTW3 was also tested by JayzTwoCents. By many, it was suspected that this very high framerate might have been the cause for other cards failure, including GeForce RTX3090/3080Ti and even Radeon RX 6800-6900XT GPUs.

I have a FTW3 Ultra Gaming. However im no longer using the stock BIOS as I use the Kingpin 520Watt, so I should be covered anyway.

I am still on the stock bios, but I never had any issues on my main system. I'm also using Precision, so that might be why (as stated in the article).
I've seen spikes a few times on the workstation, double the fan RPM (3k/6k) but the percentage was still 100%.

I am a believer that not ALL FTW 3090 Cards are at risk of the issue, just going by the fairly small sample set that show the problems. 

 

I would never know if mine was one as I blocked it straight away...so no fans lol. I only recently flashed to the Kingpin BIOS however (Gives the card a great leg up) and I have never tried Amazon's RPG and don't think I will lol.

I share that belief, though there are a lot of reports on the EVGA forums too about issues with some of the higher end cards.

About that, have you checked your PCIe powerdraw using GPU-Z with the 520W bios? As I see up to 80W going through the slot when the total power draw is around 450W.

Max PCIe Slot draw= 76,1W

That's about the same as I see, so you are not power limited in Doom Eternal. Thanks for sharing 👍
