AWS spot instances

Hey I was wondering if anyone here had ever set up this AWS spot instance Cloudformation template to fold on and if so what were your thoughts on it and cost?

I was thinking of spinning it up for the Foldathon but not sure if it would be worth it. 🤔

I have worked with AWS but not with this side of it. Though it would be interesting to know as for short term....maybe even long term could be cost effective. Unsure.  I did a quick Google to see if I could locate anyone mentioning costs to them for running this or something on EC2 but did not find much. I guess the only thing to do would be to get one running and see the cost. The good thing with AWS is their billing is transparent and you can check on it anytime you want to see what cost you have racked up. So for example you could have the instance up for an hour and see what that cost you, or half a day and check again.

That way you have a true representation. Trial and error I know.

I did try to run the template and it failed and I found the reason was because I don't have any Spot instance quota available for their GPU instances. I put in a request to increase my spot instance quota for their GPU instances (G and P) and I will test it out once I hear back from them.
