If you're going to play Black Label Society, you gotta play Funeral Bell. 😃

Next time I will. Just ordered all these parts to add a tactile transducer to the mix. Will report back once I have it setup and working properly. You guys' probably won't be able to notice a difference but I sure will 😉

@pioneerisloud

I just installed the tactile transducer and I'm running into issues already. Arrrggg!

The shaker is connected to speaker out on a mini 200w mono channel amplifier. The source for the shaker obviously comes from the AV receiver. I just used a 2-1 RCA adapter and plugged in normally where you would plug the subwoofer in (pre-amp). So everything works. The problem I'm facing is the tactile transducer itself is very weak. In terms of shaking. Amp is turned up as is the subwoofer volume on the AV receiver.

Tested amp with another subwoofer and it works fine.

By very weak I mean you have to put your ear to it to notice the vibrations.

Could this be a defective transducer?

Never mind I sorted it out. Love it. Going to get a more powerful one and a better amp eventually, but this really does add a 4th dimension to the listening experience. Not sure exactly where I want to put it in the room, but for now its working okay, just need to mount it to the desk.

What ended up being the issue?

Not sure. I re-wired it, fixed all the end connections and it seems to be working fine now.

Now, I just need to figure out the best place to mount it. I think under my metal desk would be ok.

Its supposed to be mounted to your seat, whether it be a chair or a couch. 😉  They're also useful in cars too.

My plan is to turn the metal desk into a giant sounding board if at all possible.

Also curious if it would be advantageous to mount them right to the subwoofer enclosure. Then again maybe not a good idea? IDK

Are you going to sit on the desk or your subwoofer?  It'd be kind of redundant to put them on an existing giant vibrating box......

You're supposed to put them somewhere where you will FEEL them.  The project you're talking about is more suitable with full range amplifiers and using foam sheets hanging off the ceiling to replace speakers with a transducer-ed sheet.  Not subwoofer frequencies.  By all means play around with it, I do encourage that.  But what you bought was a sub amp for it, and the intent (I thought) was for lower range frequencies.  Unless you're going to be sitting on your desk or your sub cabinet, I'd say attach it to your chair. 🙂  Those little transducers are not suitable to make AUDIBLE sub bass frequencies, but they "can" be used to make full range noise.

Just picked this sound system up for the upstairs computer. First I'm going to plug it into my current sound system downstairs (this one) and see how it sounds. The subwoofer is on the small side but actually has a good bit of punch to it. Connecting it up should be easy, as I have an audio extractor with an analog out so I can wire right up to that and experiment.

I'll just leave this here:

NOAUDIOPHILE.COM

They're noise makers.  That's about it. 🙂  If you're only about making loud noises with them, they'll do fine.  PC Gaming, they'll do "fine".  But hey, I'm all for experimenting.  Give them a listen!  If you don't like them, Amazon should take them back no problem.

Honestly, these would've been a MUCH better buy, as you could easily add in a powered sub to the setup later (possibly with very easy to do slight mods, or can just use an RCA splitter).  Monoprice has an okay enough 8" for like $60 $90 (price went up apparently).  Assuming the Edifiers alone didn't pack enough of a punch.

I've already had a Z623 system and I liked it for what it was.

It is actually more throaty and boomy than my Klipsch 12" front firing subwoofer, which is amazing considering it's almost half the size.

That's the reason I want to try it out. Not for the satellites or anything, but purely to see how it supplements two 12" Klipsch subwoofers in low frequency.

The Logitech system is "boomy" because its tuned higher than the Klipsch subs are.  I've stated the solution already, get better front speakers to replace the Logitech 2.5" or 3" speakers you're using now, so you can use a slightly lower crossover frequency on the 12" subs.  You're missing probably 60Hz-200Hz or so as is, even WITH your crossovers on the subs set to a really high point.  A 12" speaker just doesn't do higher frequencies as well as a smaller speaker does (usually).  A good pair of bookshelf speakers or a pair of those same center speakers you have would extend down to 50-60Hz no problem and fill in that mid bass section that the Logitech "sub" does on its own.  You probably wouldn't even NEED the 12" subs at that point to compare to the Logitech z623 setup.  But of course, dual 12" Reference Klipsch subs rattling your bones down to 30Hz and below, why wouldn't you?  🤣

You also said you bought the z623's for another setup anyway, so I'm not going to yell and scream too much about it. 😛 But yeah, getting rid of the Logitech speakers in favor of some better front Left / Right speakers WILL give you that mid bass "thump" that you're after with the Logitech's sub.

I have not forgotten your advice!  I have one RC-62 II center speaker ATM. It's serious business at 600w power handling and 150w rms.  And good down to 57Hz. Unfortunately, the price went up to 280$ from $200. So I am just waiting to pull the trigger on that to see if the price comes back down. Following your advice I will be running a total of three RC-62 IIs eventually (as LRC) and that will remove all but two Logitech's from the system. So that is in my mind and will be slowly accomplished.

And the two Klipsch 12" subs will rattle the windows on the 3rd floor. They are very potent, make no mistake. I'm just a junky for bass.

Build yourself one of these then.  :lachen:

That's 2x 12" JBL subs I believe it was, off just a "measely" 100w RMS to the pair of them (50w each).  The enclosure is what makes the sound with subwoofers most of the time.  Watch the left corner WALL of the room.....that's his sub box.

How do you know he was only running 50w to each? Those subwoofers are rated for upwards of 350w RMS / 800w peak power?

Nevertheless, very impressive. I might just have to do that. You keep coming up with good ideas, @pioneerisloud!!!

I must've mis-remembered his power, he's using a Peavey CS-800 in that video.  He was using 45w each BEFORE that video, that must've been where I got it from.

Here's the thread:

You got pics? it looks like a box in the back of a van, this box, Reed Exodus Anarchy 25hz Tapped Horn - AVS Forum scaled up about 20%...

Obviously you can't build that same setup TODAY since those subs are no longer manufactured or sold.  But the same concept could hold true.  Tapped horns can be absolutely mean, but they're huge usually.
