Sounds fun. Extent of my car related jobs yesterday was doing an oil change. I also need to do an ATF change, but haven't sourced the fluid yet (its special blue fluid, not off the shelf normal transmission fluid).

The "stump jumper" on the underside of a flex-wing rotary cutter (AKA 15' bush hog).  The gearbox output shafts are usually both splined and tapered.  If properly installed and maintained, they don't come off easily most of the time (I think the OEM's and dealer techs are both hesitant to coat them in anti-seize because of the inherent danger of something like that coming off while the unit is in use.  I will try to get a picture of one of the assemblies for reference. 

 

Incidentally, I envisioned this thread being another "chit chat chain" where everyone can plop some of their "unique" encounters 🙂.

An example of a medium duty 15' flex-wing rotary cutter.

A "stump jumper" installed on that same unit.

The output shaft and splines on a much smaller "el cheapo" single spindle cutter with the stump jumper removed.

That high tensile electric fence wire "nest" should not be there and is why this gearbox failed.  The wire worked its way into the bottom shaft seal, let the oil leak out, customer ran it without checking oil level till BOOM!
