FSR 2.0 added to God of War

The first game to receive support will be Deathloop, via a patch expected to be released on Thursday, May 12th.

Deathloop has been heavily featured in AMD’s FSR 2.0 presentations, so its no surprise that it will be the first to support the tech. Other games including Microsoft Flight Simulator, EVE Online, Forspoken and Farming Simulator 22 will also be receiving updates that add FSR 2.0 support.

 

More games are certainly likely to add FSR support in the future. FSR 1.0 is supported by major games such as Far Cry 6, God of War, Cyberpunk 2077, DOTA 2 and Resident Evil: Village among many others. Adding FSR 2.0 support is surely not exactly a trivial matter, but it shouldn’t require too much work to incorporate.

 

FSR 2.0 is also being included in the Xbox Series X and S development kit, which makes it easier to implement into Xbox games. There’s no word from Sony as to whether it will include FSR 2.0 support for the PS5. The PS5 operating system would require more development work compared to that of the Xbox, but given the inclusion of RDNA2 in both consoles, AMD is surely lending its support to Sony developers, and pushing for its inclusion.

Pretty excited to see this in action. This will be the first smart upscaler that is GPU agnostic which is a good thing for all PC gamers.

FSR works amazingly well on my 6900XT with Cyberpunk at 5120x1440.  I look forward to this.  RSR works surprisingly well too, and that works with every title.  Seems both sides of the camp are actually helping gamers out lately with these new features.

Tried FSR and it pretty nice but since i game on a 48" i can clearly see the difference between native and fsr.  Look ways better in native in some game.  

 

I wonder if a 28" would make this better.

 

Never tried FSR yet wonder if it about the same?

FSR 2.0 looking great from what I've seen of the reviews so far. Temporal like DLSS, vs just straight image upscaling/sharpening of FSR 1.0.

 

Also like that it is open source.

Kinda puts Nvidia on notice. Do you really need the AI/Tensor to do this? Apparently not.

 

Will be very interested to see how this gets adopted going forward.

Yea for sure. I wonder if we will see devs start to move away from DLSS since really, why do both when FSR2 works 99% as well and runs on more hardware, including Nvidia cards that support DLSS?

 

IIRC I think it's been known for a while now that DLSS doesn't actually even use the tensor cores at all. I think I heard that mentioned in a Digital Foundry video or something similar, but what it does do is use game specific AI profiles, supposedly.

Yeah the fact its hardware agnostic and open source is a huge deal. I think its really going to depend on if Nvidia somehow strangleholds devs on what they implement in their games - DLSS exclusivity deals, etc.

I think gamers would be super mad at Nvidia if they did that, and there is enough focus on this now that I think that would come to light if it were the case. With Intel planning their own smart upscaler release, it seems like things could get really messy if these companies don't play nice. But I definitely would not be surprised if Nvidia did try to make this a fight.

I'd love to see all three (DLSS, FSR2, and XeSS) all merge into one thing that becomes integrated into DX12 or something along those lines. If Nvidia no longer has an edge with DLSS, I don't see what benefit they could maintain from keeping it to themselves.

100% agree.

 

Nvidia's track record makes me think they'll fight that though. Guess we'll see. AMD is already competitive in the rasterization performance, now functionally on par with DLSS from a feature standpoint, really if they get the ray tracing performance up with RDNA3, I think AMD is shaking up the market like we haven't seen since the 4870.

 

Edit: Really what will remain to be seen at that point is how MSRP and pricing works in the future. RDNA2 and Ampere never really competed on that front realistically.

Looking at it more, the one stand-out win DLSS seems to have is at lower resolutions. with 4K, FSR and DLSS are so similar that IMO they're on par with each other, but at lower resolutions DLSS is able to maintain a noticeably cleaner image. But considering this is AMD's first smart upscaler, I suspect we will see that gap close a lot with versions 2.1, 2.2, and so on.
