Quite an impressive clock speed jump. I did not expect 5ghz+ from Ryzen.

Ryzen lower tdp and temps gave them the oportunity to go all out since intel did that with the 12th gen.

 

But i wonder the 7000 is not going to have 3dcache if i remember well so the gain are kinda pointless if the 5800x3d going to be on par with a 7800x...

 

Intel going to throw more e-core at the issue instead 😆

Eh 3d cache seemed like a one off to me then a feature in all products, at least as it is right now.

Now this is a CPU I can get onboard with. I've been patiently waiting for AMD to step up to the plate and challenge Intel on pure Mhz. 

 

I said as soon as AMD has something over 5.0GHz, I will buy it. So this appears to by at the core of my next rig / late summer, or whenever these are released for retail sale.

...3D cache really came from enterprise system requirements - the latest AMD EPYC line has options for 3D cache. It makes sense if you have to move massive amounts of data in and out of RAM. But there are also disadvantages, especially re. clocks, heat and exotic cooling.  All that said, most upcoming Intel and AMD desktop gens all seem to have much more cache onboard, whether in '3D' piggyback fashion, or more traditional manufacture.

Exciting to see the CPU race being so competitive. I don't see myself upgrading for a while though. My CPU is basically the same as console CPUs plus some extra clock speed and I don't see any games coming out for a long time that will need more CPU power than that. UE5 is in a bad place right now when it comes to CPU optimization for Nanite and Lumen, but they're going to have to figure that out if they want UE5 to run on consoles so I'd imagine when something like that actually releases, it will be GPU bottleneck in 4K like always with anything that matches or exceeds consoles specs. 

 

But hey, if any of you guys with a 5800x or better need someone to buy your old CPU when you upgrade, hit me up. 😄

Yep, fully agree with this. My point was more around the idea that Zen 4 was not launching with 3d-cache, and frankly that made sense to me seeing how 5800X3D was.

 

Zen 4 is going to 1MB L2 per core, so they are definitely increasing regular cache.

3D cache is delayed for 5nm. We will probably see 3D cache versions next year at CES. Unless they decide to try and push it out early.

 

They might also be 16c chiplets. As the chiplets look pretty large for 5nm. Maybe AMD is using Zen4C for desktop products. AVX-512 would take up a lot of space. But AVX-512 is just a rumor. 

 

AMD said that all ryzen cpus will have an igpu on AM5. But they didn't say anything about other chips. So i could see AMD releasing threadripper on AM5. If they really wanted too. And then release the higher core count threadrippers as pro's.

 

What i really want is a highly binned 6ghz blackedition. 😄
