Pokemon Black is a great game. Has one of the best regions (Unova I think) and a really good selection of new Pokemon. It also has a decent amount of endgame stuff to do like the battle tower in Black City, and the battle subway where you do 3v3 Pokemon battles.

Mario Kart DS is good too.

Ya gotta get Super Mario All-Stars for that SNES if you like Mario games.

Went to Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL yesterday. Largest arcade in the world. They have 1000 games. Here's a few pictures.

By the way, if anyone is interested in going to that arcade, it's only $25 to get in and you can stay all day. If you're a smoker like me and need a smoke, they had no problem with me going out and coming back in.

And 8 miles west on Ogden Ave in Downer's Grove there was an AWESOME breakfast place called the Baked Apple Breakfast Company, only open til 2:30 though.

This is what I had, French Toast called Holly Berry.

@UltraMega

Should I get the original Stalker game? Everyone I have heard of talking about it says it's amazing and they replay it. I'm terrible at FPS games, but I've been playing a little bit of Wolfenstein New Order. I'm still really only at the beginning, but I intend to play that and Old Blood and Wolfenstein II New Collosus. I have Doom as well. May pick up Doom Eternal also but not big on needing a Bethesda account. I'm playing Wolf New Order with god mode enabled because of my suckage 🤣

I can also remember starting single player campaigns more than once in Battlefield 4, and I thought it was pretty great but stopped playing around the Chinese city tower raid part. Not sure why. I tried Battlefield 3 and at the beginning couldn't figure out the key combo to prone when there was a sniper and I was on a roof. Kept getting shot in the head and gave up 😕

Anyway I want to play more FPS and at least get decent at them, then see if I can learn to do dual analog movement and aiming which I'm even more terrible at so I can play some PS4 games I missed out on on my PS5, like Uncharted 4.

Game recommendations welcome.

Are you looking to play a retro FPS game instead of a modern one? Why not just play Stalker 2 instead of the first games?

If you're not good at FPS games, I'm not sure stalker would be a good time for you haha. You basically have to get headshots all the time in stalker games otherwise you will run out of ammo well before you run out of enemies. On the other hand, the fact that it has an RGP style health system that lets you just keep healing as much as you want until you run out of med-packs makes it pretty forgiving at times, but the shooting is definitely on the harder side as far as FPS games go.

Doom 2016 is great. If you haven't played that much, definitely a good one. Doom eternal is not as good because they introduced some mechanics that just made the gameplay more strict. Doom 2016 is a perfect game; it does exactly what you expect it to do and it does it very well.

BF3/4 are not good single player games at all. They were showcases for the frostbite engine at the time, which isn't very interesting now.

If you're OK with Ubisoft games, Far Cry 5 is pretty solid (Don't play 6). Watch Dogs 1 (not 2 or 3) and Ghost Recon Wildlands (not breakpoint) are also both good hybrid 3rd person games with first person shooting mechanics. Watch Dogs 1 is basically a retro game now too haha, but it still holds up pretty well in high res and there are actually a ton of mods for it recently.

Some other good mentions:

Any of the Metro games. Personally I think the first 2 are better than the third.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

A lot of the games I mentioned here are on game pass.

+1 to Metro 2033 and Last Light.

I haven’t tried 2033 Redux but it’s probably the better purchase. Since it’s not DX10 and it’s the game ported to the Last Light, DX11 engine.

Both games are very atmospheric and don’t rely on a ton of FPS skills or are as the kids say “sweaty”.

I was also a sucker for Borderlands, especially if you have a partner to play with. I haven’t tried 3 yet but both 1 and 2 are quite fun and don’t require a ton of skill. It’s just first person Diablo.

The Metro Redux games are basically the same as the originals on PC. There are some minor changes, but the Redux was more about remastering the games for ps4 era consoles since they came out on ps3 originally. Either way, you can get the for super cheap on any steam sale.

Yeah I have the Metro games.  Thanks for the warning about the original Stalker.

I have Borderlands 1 and 2 for my 360 and two controllers and you can do split screen, but it would probably be better on PC over LAN play. How is BL3? Which is the best one to start with? I did play BL2 up to the point that you got a vehicle of some kind, then got bored and quit.

I *love* top down Diablo style games and played through Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn over LAN with @bridgypoo, doing BL with her might be great but last month we spent a weekend playing UT3 deathmatch and writing down the maps we like before I try to teach her Onslaught mode. I told a white lie, I am actually at least competent at Unreal Tournament and Q3A and love them both.

I also have Fallout 4 for PC and Fallout 3 for 360.

Anyway, thanks for the advice/recommendations...offer up anything else if you guys think of anything. Thanks.

What I said about Stalker is true for the OG games and the new one FYI.

Are you looking for retro shooters specifically or any shooters?

Well 1. My normal preferred genre is RPG, both JRPG, WRPG and ARPG. However I have gotten sick of them, so I'm looking for a change of pace.

2. The first PC I had was gifted to me for my birthday by my Uncle Pete (r.i.p.), it was a Pentium 75MHz and I played Doom, Doom 2 and Duke 3D on it but always with god mode on. I am familiar with and have played Blood and a few other retro shooters.

3. I am looking to get better, I don't really do squad based shooters like COD or Battlefield. However, as I mentioned, I like BF4 single player campaign (on easy ofc -_-)

I have another one that's kinda old but was popular when it first came out and now has a PC version, and it's called Vanquish.

Ultra, mostly I am looking to get entertained in a different way.

Check out the game Prodeus.

It's a retro style doom shooter, but not actually a retro style game. It's a lot of fun.
