So far, mixed reviews. Seems that people don't generally like Portal being used as a DLSS3 demo.

I got about 15-25fps with my RX6800 at 720p. It will run on any RT hardware, but clearly it's pretty much designed to be a DLSS demo judging by the reviews which I think will surprise no one.

It does sound like 30fps+ is possible on a 3000 series card at 1080p-1440p with DLSS2.

I'll give it a try, why not? -_-

I was REALLY hoping Valve would make it more open so it worked on a wider variety of hardware better.

Valve didn't make this. Nvidia is listed as the publisher, with Lightspeed being listed as the dev. With that in mind, it's no surprise that even at the lowest settings it's basically unplayable on AMD. Considering Cyberpunk (Ray Tracing) and Quake RTX (Path Tracing) both run at acceptable levels at lower resolutions on AMD, I'm sure Portal RTX could too if it weren't specifically an Nvidia tech demo.

What's kinda lame about it though, with Nvidia being the publisher, it will never be optimized for any AMD hardware so even with better RT hardware from AMD it will probably remain an Nvidia only thing.

I never expected this Nvidia push to add RT to older games to be something that would work nearly as well on AMD cards as it would on Nvidia cards, but I never thought Nvidia would be the publisher of these mods/game refreshes. If Valve were making this and simply using some Nvidia tools to make adding RT easier, at least we AMD users might get thrown a bone but it's looking like that will not be the case if this is any example.

With my RX 6900XT, I was getting around 25-30 FPS at 1280x720, ish, give or take.  It was ALMOST playable at 16:9 720p.  I played the first few levels though at 1920x540 due to having an ultrawide.  RSR was active, and honestly it didn't help anywhere near enough at "540p" ultrawide.  It just looked horrible.  The lighting effects were nice, but the rest looked really bad.  Performance was ALMOST okay, almost.  I got 23-30 FPS at 1920x540.

EDIT:
I figured out the ALT + X menu thing.  Got things "tuned".  1280x720 with "performance" mode on, "enhanced graphics" on but the preset on "high" instead of "ultra" at 50% res scaling (so basically 360p), and I played through the whole game.  It looked horrid, didn't use my whole monitor, but at least I could kinda almost tell what they were going for.  Was getting 30-36 FPS with those settings.

I did notice at 1920x540, if I could turn OFF the resolution scaling in the game itself, RSR actually made it look not too terribly bad (same with 1280x720).  But the performance was just not there with the in game scaling turned off.  Like 8-12 FPS.  Sigh. -_-

Just tried it out. I went with 3840x1440 borderless window. DLSS enabled, DLSS mode balanced, ultra presets. I average around 37-45FPS depending on the level. That's with a custom loop 3090, 5900x, and 32GB of 3600cl14.

The game looks good at those settings but not mind blowing. I was fully expecting to be able to do at least 4K60 on my setup when I first heard about Portal RTX.

From what I've been seeing, you "should" be capable of running it at 4k with DLSS on "Performance" mode.  You'd probably be a lot happier at 1440p "Performance" DLSS though.  Either way, yeah seems like if you don't have a 4080 or better you're not going to see the benefits as well from this title, which is a huge shame.  Yeah, its a great way to "showoff" the new technology in the 4000 series, but even people that run them admit the AI frame insertion and DLSS isn't nearly as good as playing native.

Its a Path Tracing/Ray Tracing DLSS3 demo for 40-series at best.

I keep seeing people call it "the new Crysis", but I mean Crysis was a new game when it came out. Portal on the other hand is a game from 2007. Cool...you made it look pretty Nvidia.

If I remember the youtube videos on it right, its actually a tech demo for the new RTX tools to mod ANY older games into RTX titles.  But yeah, its basically for the 40 series only, and basically a tech demo for the cards.  Kinda sucks, I was really hoping to be able to play it (and enjoy it) on my setup.  I played it, I didn't enjoy it.
