Samsung Announces The Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra: 120Hz, 5G, Huge Batteries, Crazy Cameras and $$$

The year is 2020. The 20’s are back (we’ll see if they’ll be roaring or not), and not only is it a new decade, but it’s also time for a new enumeration scheme for Samsung’s newest Galaxy S devices; Today Samsung is announcing the new Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra flagship phones. The new phones have some similarities in the external design to last year’s S10 line-up and a clearly a successor – but in terms of specifications and hardware capabilities, it’s one of Samsung’s largest ever updates.

These phone prices are getting ridiculous and the bad thing about it is people are going to buy them anyway which just makes the problem worse. It wasn't even 5 years ago that Samsung was the cheap alternative to the iPhone. Except:

 

256GB iPhone 11 Pro Max = $1250

128GB Samsung S20 Ultra = $1400

512GB iPhone 11 Pro Max = $1450

512GB Samsung S20 Ultra = $1500

 

The standard S20 is overpriced as well. They start at $1000 for the 128GB model. For reference, the iPhone 11 128GB is $750 or $700 for the 64GB model. Why people buy these phones instead of cheaper alternatives that are just as good like the One+ phones or Google Pixels is beyond me.

 

It is nice to see the "one up wars" that phone manufacturers are going for now is for better features such as higher refresh rate screens and better cameras instead of that nonsense "our phones are 0.02mm thinner than the competitors" from a couple of years ago.

Samsung has for the most part always had a premium product but I do think they are starting to get greedy with the premium prices. The specs of the S20 are by no means weak, but it simply does not warrant the price tag. I for one next time round will be looking at the One+ range (Currently have a Huawei P10 Plus)

Agreed. It wasn't too long ago when people were starting to get unsettled by $1000 phone price tags, but of course they sold like hotcakes anyways. This is getting out of hand.

The prices are going to get worse. The $5000 and $2000 foldable phones sold really well. That's just going to push the prices up of non-foldable flagship phones. I don't think it's going to be too long now until $1500 flagships are the norm.

When the masses want something, they find a way to spend the money that is for sure. I think buying a folding phone is absolutely nuts considering that they absolutely have not figured out all the issues with the technology. Everyone adopting it this first gen are all basically beta testers.
