It does look a little complicated lol.   I never bought the next flow thing.  Seemed pretty expensive and nobody had one.  I have a cheap byski and it works fine.  I graphed the flow to % and meh, think thats all I needed to know.

Its nice because I can basically link the Octo and Highflow Next together via Aquasuite and create fan curves based on coolant temps.

Nice thing about their controllers vs crap like the EK loop connect is that the software doesn't need to be running all the time. Once you get it configured you could uninstall Aquasuite and monitor with another program if you really want to.

It programs it into the controller itself?  That seems quite fancy.

Bad news. Got the Crosshair X670-E and was so psyched about it. Unfortunately, my case is a midtower case and my AIO is like 38mm thick with fans instead of 22mm thick like a Corsair AIO. Looked at the top of the board, and it has absolutely huge and overkill VRM heatsink on the top that won't fit in my case, as the fans on the bottom of my AIO hang down pretty far and would be in the way. I love the way it looks and is designed and really want to use it, and didn't know this would be an issue.

 

Will be looking carefully at the X670 Strix board to try and determine the height of the topmost VRM heatsink to make sure it will clear my radiator fans. In comparison to my Crosshair VIII Hero, this thing had like an inch long heatsink.

 

I'd take photos of my current build so you guys could see the issue but for some reason I can't upload anything larger than 1.46mb and I'm not compressing photos on my phone or whatever, this has only been since yesterday night, messaged Enterprise about it, the limit was like 4mb before.

Its interesting what problems you run into that you'd never think about.  I have to say the inwin 315 I have is the best looked case I've ever owned.  And........the biggest PITA to work in.  Absolute nightmare.  I'll be using the 011 XL I have for this new build. 

 

Actually can you just take the vrm heatsinks off?   Buildzoid keeps mentioning a lot of these new boards have such overkill vrm's they don't even need the heatsinks.

I could take a look and possibly take it off but it looks like its connected to the I/O shroud. Will probably just return it, I think my wife already put in for a return at Amazon.

Looks to me like it will fit but we're going to go to Microcenter or Best buy and look at it in person to verify.

The heatsink on my C8H for vrm is not even an inch tall and is pushed right up against the fan. I have to have a ROG board as their bios is what I'm used to and those are the only boards I've bought since 2011.

 

I may not be able to do this upgrade. Or I might need a different case which I really don't want to do, don't have space on my desk for a full tower and love my current case ..

Yes. Once setup their controllers will run off the stored settings indefinitely. I have one running my custom loop PS4 that hasn't been connected to the software since I set it up years ago.

That is a huge benefit.  I might have to look into it when these 7950 reviews start rolling in.  I've almost decided to just get the normal 7950 if the x3d doesn't prove its worth on reviews.  This waiting game is hell lol.

I am genuinely looking forward to multiple & trustworthy 3rd-party reviews of the upcoming 7950X3D next week, also re. its asymmetric chiplet design impact on OS and apps. I may not like differing chiplets in the same CPU but that and/or P+E cores are probably here to stay, unless one moves into the high-end HEDT space.

 

The other thing I am still waiting for is some seriously clocked & low timings 32 GB Dual Rank A-die sticks, s.th. at least as fast as 7200 DDR5 (lower speed Dual Rank A-die already exists). I know that 7200 speed won't likely work with the 7950X/3D but for other reasons which include upcoming HEDT builds, I want to settle on as few DDR5 versions as possible for interchangeability down the line.

 

I am not too worried about cooling the 7950X3D though - my 5950X has hit 265 W when fully oc'ed, and its cooling system - one of two loops below - has 1320x63 mm rads and dual D5 pumps (used to have 3x D5s, but I downsized it  ...). Regarding 'case' and all that, I don't foresee too many issues (other than that itch to build s.th. new and different yet again). The 5950X Dark Hero / RTX 4090 combo at the lower right would simply move to the upper left and displace the CH8 Hero WF with the 3950X that in turn will move on to other work-related tasks in another build. FYI, I also recommend the use of Koolance QD4s (lower left below) as they make swapping components a lot easier, especially with big complex dual loops. I have used this type of QD since 2014 or so and very much like and recommend them.

Is there an actual problem?  I know its touching but is it actually affecting the fan or anything?  Looks like it works fine to me lol

The more I see the more they say 7000 series can't ever break 6400 on ram, and usually 6000-6200 is the limit.  This is religiously repeated by every reviewer and linus and buildzoid.  Not exactly motivating but they say CL is more important on ryzen anyway.  

 

I had to google QD4 and yeah I have tons of those, you can see one on the front of my res in my current setup pic.  They are flat out amazing.  I have them on my 011 so and mora rad so I can quickly hook up to it.  Definitely one of those products that blows you away on how perfect it is.

Wanted to steal parts off my current build but when all I really need is a waterblock I went ahead and bought this. 

 

 

And this is the psu I got for it.  Was on sale for $299, guess the sale is over.

I have an Optimus AM4 block. Good performer, but restrictive. And although it doesn't actually have a jetplate insert, that slit in the acrylic that acts as the jetplate does get easily clogged along with those fine micro-fins. I don't know what it is about this block, but even though my Mayhems coolant is crystal clear, I find congealed bits of glycol in this block periodically.

 

Just something to keep in mind for maintenance.

I think there will always be a tradeoff between flow and performance.  You could have no fins at all and all the flow in the world and it would suck.   Im gonna use 2 d5's though so shouldn't be a problem either way.  

 

I did cheat and just bought a 7950x.  Idk if everyone will flock to it after x3d is shown to be all smoke and mirrors and send the price up, otherwise I'll return it.   BHPhoto had it for $550.

Yeah like I said, excellent performer otherwise, just needs more maintenance. Well at least mine does.

Good choices on block and PSU.

 

I also have a few Optimus blocks. Good stuff. You could kill someone if you dropped one of their GPU blocks on them

 

I think picking up the 7950X was a good move. If the X3D is a flop you're good to go. If it's amazing it could be sold out for months. IIRC B&H gives you a 30 day return window so you should be good either way.

Anyway, it looks like my AM5 build will have the same dimensions as one of the two AM4 ATX builds I showed in the pic above, so the 'exchange' if and when should take no longer than a weekend or so. PSU-wise, I am using a Seasonic Prime Platinum PX1300 for the current (up to 265W) 5950X and 675W max RTX 4090. I think the 7950X3D exchange won't require a PSU upgrade as there still is plenty of additional headroom. That said, the next PSU(s) I will purchase will all have to be ATX 3.0 and 1300W or higher.

Thats what I was thinking.  Have a plan B so I don't end up screwed like the gpu fiasco all over again.

Yeah I saw.  Just saying how terrible amd is with ram lol.  I mean I got 6400 and prolly won't even be able to use that speed either.  Buildzoid's ddr5 am5 guide has been shown to be pretty promising and being I am not a ram wizard I'll prolly just do that.  But being rated higher than the 6000 I'll prolly be forced to run, maybe I can run tighter primary timings.  I'm not about to pretend I know how to overclock ram but I can do enough to get myself in trouble.  Tighter timings supposed to really help ryzen so guess I'll learn.  

 

BTW.......if I'm reading correctly......7950x has 80MB L3, and X3D CCD will have 96.  Maybe I can't count but to me that doesn't make it sound like it will be that big of boost over the x.  God they need to get these reviews out.

It probably helps to have a good RAM kit to begin with before trying to manually tune it - I have been down that rabbit hole so many times for over a decade. Eventually, one gets ready to rip one's hair out but It can really make a system fly though if done and tested right.

 

And yes, Ryzen 7950X/3D will likely love very tight timings more than speed (Hardware Unboxed did a recent vid on that, including using Buildzoid's timings). With the specific DDR4 kits I have, I dropped speeds to 3800 but can also run CL13...I am hoping to read more about upcoming DDR5 A-die DR kits and see how they behave along those lines; trading bandwidth for timings...still early days for DDR5 A-die Dual Rank, though.

I got this kit because my current Flare X in my 5900x build has been amazing. I ran it out of ratio at 4266MHz cas 19 once. And it's rated for 3200MHz 14-14-14. I counted and it was 15 dividers higher.

I believe you can get those free at microcenter if you buy a cpu?   You might check into that maybe someone or even me could help you out.  I didn't do it cause I know it would just be a kit sitting in my mountain of other computer parts.
